Skrym is a logtech startup working for a more sustainable and effective e-commerce sector. Through an algorithmic optimisation system, they are able to create a more efficient packing way.

00:00Today, 30 to 50% of the volume shipped in e-commerce is just there.
00:13That means that we could fit so much more in every transport if we just packaged a bit
00:18more effectively.
00:20But packaging is tricky, and we as humans have cognitive limitations that mean we often
00:25choose the wrong package under time pressure.
00:29And I've worked in warehouses myself, and if you're unsure of which box to choose,
00:33you take the larger one.
00:44We're helping online retailers stop sending error.
00:47We achieve a few key things.
00:49First, we identify exactly which package sizes are needed based on the actual order history.
00:56Second, we automate the package choice in real time, so this reduces the need for transport
01:02space, meaning the transporters can fit more in every truck.
01:06And of course, this makes it cheaper to send as well.
01:15For a lot of people, sustainability is about big things.
01:18For us, that's not what it is.
01:20It's about the small things, because they add up, and fixing them can have a massive
01:25impact today, not needing another 10 or 20 years of research and development.
01:31In two years' time, we want to get rid of enough air to fill the world's largest spherical
01:36building, the globe.
01:38Why?
01:39Because it's there.
01:41Is it realistic?
01:42Only one way to find out.
