00:00The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, or BFAR, promised that the supply of fish will be sufficient for the upcoming closed fishing season in Galunggong,
00:09which will start from November 1 to January 31 of the next year.
00:14Joshua Garcia has the details.
00:20The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, or BFAR, promised that the supply of fish will be sufficient for the upcoming closed fishing season in the next month.
00:29According to BFAR spokesperson Nazario Briguera, the closed fishing season will start from November 1 to January 31 of the next year for Galunggong, particularly in Northeastern Palawan.
00:40On November 15 to February 15, the closed fishing season will last in Zamboanga Peninsula for sardine fishing,
00:47as well as in Visayas Sea for small pelagic or tuna-like species such as halumahana.
00:52The conservation measure implemented by the government through BFAR every year,
00:58the government is sure that the expected supply gap will be met, especially in fisheries such as markets.
01:04What the government is doing is temporary so that we can be sure that the supply in the markets is still being met and not in terms of increasing the price.
01:18So we are hoping that the affordable price of fish in the markets will be met during the closed fishing season.
01:26According to BFAR monitoring, the current fish sales are at P300 per kilo in markets such as Galunggong.
01:32Aside from this, they have not yet monitored a large increase in the price of fish in the family.
01:38Despite the increase in the number of fishermen to recover, and while there is no gale warning in the oceans after the rains.
01:46According to Breguera, they have approved 30,000 tons of fish that they expect to arrive by batches this last week of October
01:55until the first week of November that will come from neighboring countries such as Vietnam.
01:59BFAR explains that the reason for the closed fishing season should not be to increase the price of fish in the markets.
02:06Meanwhile, they still expect this because of the temporary limitation of fishing.
02:11We need to take account that the closed season is Palawan, although that is the major source of Galunggong.
02:19But there are also other sources of Galunggong.
02:23We expect locally produced Galunggong.
02:27The price of Galunggong is high because the supply is limited.
02:33Meanwhile, BFAR also assured that even though frozen marine species can be seen in fish markets in the next few months,
02:40it is safe because it is in compliance with their regulations and sanitary and phytosanitary clearance.
02:46Our environment is very strict in selling fish.
02:50The regulatory requirements and food safety requirements should be followed in increasing the price of fish so that we can ensure the safety of the fish.
