00:00Razer finally launched their new Razer Blade Pro, a 17-inch device with thin bezels and all the stuff that kind of makes it look more modern.
00:11It just took longer than I had expected. They had their 15-inch device and their Stealth, which were both updated to this new kind of unibody design,
00:20and they just didn't update the 17-inch version for years.
00:24Turns out, they were waiting for this, the new 9th gen laptop CPUs from Intel.
00:29Now, looking at the briefing notes, it doesn't seem like a massive jump from the 8th gen CPU.
00:34I mean, there are some things that I'll get into later, but the main idea is that it's the new generation of CPU,
00:38and I think Razer was just waiting for a fresh CPU to match the fresh RTX GPU from NVIDIA.
00:44So, this new Razer Blade Pro is a little bit thinner and smaller than the previous Razer Blade Pro,
00:49and aesthetically just looks a lot cleaner and more modern.
00:52It kind of matches the design of the existing Razer Blade 15 and the Razer Blade Stealth.
00:57Now, aesthetically, this new screen with these thin bezels is so much nicer to look at than the old Razer Blade Pro.
01:03I kind of forgot how thick the bezels are on the screen on the existing Razer Blade Pro.
01:07It kind of just shows you just your brain and eyes get used to looking at certain things,
01:11because over the last couple of years, we've just seen so many devices with thin bezels.
01:15The keyboard and trackpad used to be laid out side by side,
01:18and I mentioned in previous videos you had to kind of get used to the trackpad being on the right,
01:22but now it's in a more traditional spot with the trackpad underneath the keyboard,
01:26so it just looks like a standard Razer Blade keyboard, but I'll look into that in a future review of the device.
01:31The GPU is looking like some standard stuff, RTX 2060 up to a 2080 Max-Q,
01:36but the CPU is the 9th Gen 9750H, which is a 6-core CPU.
01:40Now, if you look at Intel's kind of press release on these new CPUs,
01:45you will notice that this actually isn't the most powerful CPU that Intel launched this time.
01:49They have an 8-core, 16-thread CPU,
01:52which is kind of strange, because Razer normally takes the most powerful CPU that Intel has to offer for laptops,
01:57and they stick it into the Razer Blade Pro,
01:59but I'm actually glad they didn't do it,
02:01because that chip at the top end, that 8-core, 16-thread monster,
02:05is going to need some serious cooling,
02:07and there's no way that a device as thin as a Razer Blade Pro could cool that chip properly.
02:12I'm glad that they left that job for just other, thicker devices.
02:16These new Intel CPUs make some pretty big claims in their press materials,
02:20and if you look at the numbers, it's quite easy to be like,
02:22oh my god, those are so much better.
02:24The truth is, these are still 14-nanometer chips, right?
02:26The 9th generation stuff can't be that much faster and that much better performing than the 8th generation stuff,
02:32because the way that they're made and just the architecture is quite similar between the two.
02:36On the top end, however,
02:38if you are able to get a really thick device that can cool an 8-core CPU,
02:42then yeah, that's great.
02:43You'll be able to get some nice performance gains,
02:45but for most people, they're going to be running a 6-core CPU like the 8th Gen stuff,
02:49and yeah, so the performance isn't going to be massive.
02:52But I think more interestingly though, is that a lot of manufacturers out there
02:56were waiting for these 9th Gen CPUs to launch,
02:58so they could update their devices alongside.
03:01The XPS 15 from Dell is now running the 9th Gen CPU,
03:04as well as the new GTX 1650 from NVIDIA, which is nice.
03:08The Surface Studio as well is a device that I feel like a lot of people were disappointed from the previous generation,
03:14like the Surface Studio 2, they're still running a 4-core CPU,
03:17and I'm pretty sure Microsoft is going to update that lineup with either 6 or 8-core processor pretty soon.
03:23Also, Asus, they have their ROG Mothership, we saw that at CES,
03:27but we're finally going to see that being launched with the new hardware,
03:30as well as updates to the Strix line and the Zephyrus line,
03:33like the whole Asus line just gets revamped with this.
03:36And also, the Predator, the Triton 900 from Acer,
03:39that thing with the swiveling screen that we saw at CES,
03:42that's going to launch with the new 9th Gen CPUs as well.
03:45So, the whole industry is just kind of shifting over to 9th Generation stuff.
03:48I'll be honest, for most people, I think that step up from 8th to 9th Gen CPU performance isn't going to be that huge,
03:55but for me, it's more interesting that all these other devices are finally coming out and finally being released,
04:00because of the timing of this CPU.
04:02So, I guess, stay tuned for future reviews of all these devices.
04:07If you're interested, like, in buying one, and you're like,
04:10should I buy one of these new ones or just pick up the same model with an older 8th Gen CPU?
04:15I think for most people, the 8th Gen CPU is just the better value.
04:18It's just such a great CPU to begin with that, I mean, you can't go wrong with the previous generation at this point.
04:24Okay, hope you guys enjoyed this video. Thumbs if you liked it, subs if you loved it.
04:27See you guys next time.
