00:00Oh man, so this year in 2022, we're getting a bunch of new laptops, and I think we're going to be in for a sweet show.
00:06So Intel, AMD, and Nvidia just announced the newest stuff, and it's just like
00:11big jumps in performance, some really big. So, let's start off with Intel.
00:16This is a company that's been kind of eating sand for the past little bit, and this year, they just, they're coming out of the gates
00:22super hard. So we're looking at the 12th gen Alder Lake mobile chips, and these look awesome. It's a brand new architecture,
00:29it's kind of like a split hybrid type CPU, where it's got two types of cores.
00:33It's got performance cores and efficiency cores in the same package, and it's similar to like what ARM chips do, right?
00:39Like mobile chips and tablets, we've been seeing it for years, but Apple M1, like Apple Silicon,
00:44that's what they do as well, that split kind of
00:47specialization inside the CPU, and it's unlike anything that Intel's ever done.
00:51So you have these performance cores for the heavier tasks,
00:53but then you also have these efficiency cores that are there for the lighter stuff.
00:56But when you need the juice, when the system needs that extra kick,
00:59it'll activate all the cores and just push out the maximum performance.
01:03So, at the top end, we have these 14 core chips with 6 performance and 8 efficiency cores,
01:10and they can hit up to 5 gigahertz, and also claiming a base power of 45 watts,
01:13but I imagine once you push the system, it'll break 100 watts pretty readily.
01:17But the thing that I'm most curious about is how this compares to M1 Max, like Apple's top-of-the-line Silicon right now.
01:24So that stuff, Apple's M1 Max and M1 Pro products, they are very, very energy efficient.
01:30Like that's what they emphasize with all their product material.
01:33This stuff, it's super powerful, but I'm curious how it stacks up in terms of energy efficiency,
01:38because the performance claims are incredible.
01:41Like you're looking at 10 to 20% better in single-threaded, but the multi-threaded,
01:45like up to 20% faster in games, and in terms of content creation, my god, like look at those numbers.
01:51You do not see this very often.
01:5244% faster in Premiere Pro, like look at the thing they're comparing it to.
01:57That's an 11th-gen top-of-the-line chip from last year, from Intel, like that was fast.
02:01It was already great.
02:03To get it 44% faster in one year?
02:07Come on, dude.
02:07That's really impressive.
02:09And because these chips have efficiency cores, when you're not pushing the system hard,
02:13I feel like the system should be able to dial it down and just use very little energy when it's idling,
02:17and if you're just doing light tasks.
02:18So Intel 12th-gen, I think this is going to be huge.
02:21I think this is like the biggest step they've made in their mobile tech in a really long time.
02:26And honestly, it's all because of the presence of AMD's really good stuff last year,
02:30and Apple Silicon.
02:31Like, that's the truth.
02:32If it wasn't for those two companies, we'd probably be looking at like
02:36another iteration of 14-nanometer stuff from Intel.
02:39There you have it.
02:39Intel stuff looks really cool, and then there's also Nvidia's new chips for laptops.
02:44They have the mobile TI chips.
02:46They're the 3080 TI at the top end, all the way down to the 3050 at the bottom.
02:50They are claiming that the 3080 TI has the performance that is equivalent to,
02:54if not better than, the Titan RTX from a couple years ago, like the desktop version of that.
03:00So it's a decent bump up, and this is really just for like,
03:04it's like a refresh in the middle of the year.
03:05I wouldn't expect any kind of revolutionary gains in terms of GPU performance,
03:09but it's just like a nice little bump up from their regular stuff.
03:13And then we have AMD.
03:15So they have their new 6000 series chips.
03:17These are still 8-core, but with an improvement in performance.
03:20So it's Zen 3 Plus, the 6-nanometer processor,
03:23and with the heavily anticipated RDNA 2 GPU.
03:27So these are the same graphics as like Xbox Series S and the PS5.
03:32It's very capable stuff.
03:34Now in terms of performance laptops, some of my favorite devices last year were running AMD chips,
03:38right? So like the G15, the Blade 14, the Legion 5,
03:42all of those devices that are running AMD 5000 series chips
03:45are now going to be updated or upgraded to AMD 6000 stuff, which is fantastic.
03:50But the real winner here is the mid-tier stuff.
03:53So like the U processors, like regular laptops.
03:55These aren't gaming laptops.
03:56These are just regular, you know, work laptops or hybrid laptops,
04:00regular laptops that now have access to RDNA 2 GPUs, which is incredibly powerful.
04:07This is supposedly two times the performance of the 5000 series APUs from last year.
04:12So we're looking at gaming performance that just was not possible with integrated graphics before.
04:17It's truly incredible.
04:18And the thing that's like ticking my head, it's like, this is so disruptive
04:22because now you have these integrated graphics, like APUs from AMD,
04:26that they're so good that they remove the need for like the MX450
04:30or anything from NVIDIA at that kind of tier, right?
04:32It's like you have these very gaming-capable laptops
04:36that aren't being sold and priced as gaming laptops.
04:40Like you can be a student right now and be like,
04:43Can you buy me this laptop?
04:44They would not ever think that it was a gaming laptop.
04:46It's a regular laptop, but because it's got the 6000 series APUs from AMD,
04:51they're going to deliver really good gaming performance.
04:54Double the gaming performance we had last year is going to be good.
04:57Now, AMD also has a bunch of mobile GPUs, like dedicated discrete GPUs.
05:02They have some 6000s series stuff, as well as like some updated XT versions of their regular 6000 chips.
05:09I think it's cool, but I got to test those GPUs out properly
05:12because they're not showing a whole lot in terms of performance,
05:14especially compared to what NVIDIA is offering at that tier.
05:17But overall, the laptops this year look just so good.
05:20Like all the players, Intel, AMD, Apple, no one else makes laptops.
05:26But the three players, the three big players,
05:27they're all in it and they're all competitive and like we're here for it, right?
05:30We get to see the fruits of competition and this year's very fruitful.
05:35Okay, hope you guys enjoyed this video.
05:37Thumbs if you liked it, subs if you loved it.
05:38See you guys next time.
