00:00Hey, how's it going? Dave2D here. So the BlackBerry Key 2 launched recently, and it's a device
00:08that people have mixed feelings about. On one hand, they are like the OG smartphone
00:13brand. These guys are the first people to make that truly relevant smartphone, the original
00:17BlackBerrys, and people have very fond memories of the keyboards and stuff like that. But
00:20on the other hand, this is a very dated brand, not because of the hardware or the software
00:25or anything like that, but because of the brand and how things shaped out for them,
00:28people don't really look at BlackBerry as a beacon of innovation. That's just how the
00:32cookies crumbled for them. So I'm someone who used the original BlackBerrys quite a
00:36bit for work. I never loved the brand or anything like that, but I liked the physical keyboard.
00:40But ever since I moved to virtual keyboards on iPhones or Android phones, I never really
00:46missed the physical keyboard. So I wanted to know, is this device really all it's shaped
00:51out to be? Because we look at the paper specs, it's not all that impressive, like the Snapdragon
00:55660, the 4.5 inch IPS screen. The hardware is nothing to write home about, but the keyboard
01:00is what people are interested in. I think a lot of my peers in the YouTube space are
01:04like, hey, this is going to be my next daily driver. This is the phone. I love the physical
01:08keyboard. So I want to know, am I going to type faster on this thing? Am I going to be
01:12more productive? Because a lot of people still say that they are faster on the physical keyboards
01:16than they are on virtual keyboards. And not that I disagree with it, but I haven't used
01:22the physical keyboard in a while. Let's dig in.
01:24Okay, so I've set up the phone real quick, and I'm going to take some time to kind of
01:29get reaccustomed to the physical keyboard. It's been a while since I've used one, and
01:33I feel like if I'm going to give this thing a proper test, I have to spend some time to
01:36kind of retrain my muscles. Okay.
01:39All right, so it's been around 12 minutes of using this thing, and I got to be honest,
01:47I feel slower on this thing than I remember. Not that I was super fast or anything before,
01:51but I feel quite crippled on this physical keyboard. Hopefully it does pick up. I will
01:56say though, there's definitely some advantages, like the tactility is nice, be able to feel
01:59the keys. I like that again, but speed is just not there right now.
02:20I've had about an hour of practice on the BlackBerry Key2, and at this point, I'm comfortable
02:25with my speed. I don't feel like this is the fastest I'll ever be, but it's fast enough
02:29for me to measure. So I'm going to measure once on the Key2, and then once on the iPhone
02:32X. And the test I'm doing is really not scientific. I'm just going to be typing the phrase, the
02:37quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog, as many times as I can in one minute.
02:42Okay, so for both of these phones, I was getting around seven sentences in that one minute.
02:48Not particularly fast. I feel like some of you are going to be way faster than that,
02:51but that's just my natural typing speed. I'm actually surprised. I thought that the Key2
02:55would be noticeably faster, and I just don't think that's the case. I've always heard that
03:00rumor or that idea that a physical keyboard would be faster and better, but I really don't
03:05think that's the case. I will say though, that the tactile keys makes it easier to touch
03:11type. As I was using this, I could feel my muscle memory. It's easier to kind of feel
03:15the keys and just use it like that if you don't want to look at the screen or if you
03:18can't look at the screen, but I don't think speed is one of the big things on this thing.
03:23I do think that there's a degree of precision or just like accuracy that comes with being
03:28able to feel the keys, but not speed. Okay, that's basically it. Between a physical keyboard
03:36and a virtual keyboard, I really don't think there's a difference in speed. Okay, hope
03:39you guys enjoyed this video. Thumbs if you liked it, subs if you loved it. See you guys
03:42next time.
