00:00Featuring everything from the beautiful to the bizarre, the 26th instalment of Sculpture
00:06by the Sea is officially open.
00:08It is open to everyone, like it's open to poor people, rich people, different ethnicities,
00:14gay, straight, it doesn't matter, like it's anyone, everyone is welcome.
00:18Bring your dog.
00:19This year's exhibition features a hundred artworks, nearly half of which come from overseas.
00:23Many have seized the opportunity to send a message.
00:26It's also here to raise awareness of the inaccessibility of the coastal path.
00:31It would be nice if Waverley Council could upgrade the coastal walk to be wheelchair
00:35accessible.
00:36It emulates melanoma and it changes over the course of the show in size and shape and colour,
00:42much like a melanoma or a sun spot.
00:45While others have made an immediate impact.
00:46I ran into a guy who works for Sculpture by the Sea at a cafe that I go to and I heckled
00:52him essentially and said to him, hey what about putting a line in the middle of the
00:55path and he said, well why don't you do that?
00:58For plenty of artists, the exhibition provides a valuable platform.
01:02It's huge, for me it's the difference between making art and not making art is having this
01:05kind of funding.
01:06But this year, the exhibition is going without federal funding.
01:10This time last year, every Australian artist in this exhibition received four and a half
01:14thousand dollars of support, this year it's three thousand dollars.
01:18The exhibition will remain open until the first week of November.
