New York Comic Con '24 kicks off
With the pandemic and writers' strikes firmly in the past, hordes arrived on Oct. 17, 2024 for the first day of New York's 2024 Comic Con. Hundreds of thousands are expected to attend the weekend event, dubbed as the biggest of the year, that will end on October 20, according to local media reports. The event is taking place at New York's Javits Center, a convention center on the west side of Manhattan.

01:09It's the thing I look forward to all year long.
01:11Everyone here all likes the same things and everybody's fun.
01:15The best cosplay location, comic book add-ons or video game add-ons,
01:20best place to find information and meet the artists, the writers,
01:24people that work in the industry.
01:26I chose to express myself this way.
01:29I grew up, my mom always dresses up for Halloween,
01:33so I already grew up with a love for dressing up in costumes.
01:37And as I got older, I felt not shunned by society,
01:42but I definitely felt different because of my interests
01:46and because of being a person of color.
01:50I grew up in the South, so I also felt different because of that.
01:53And cosplay was a way for me to escape from all of that
01:57and dress as a different character that I related to
02:01that helped me express myself more
02:04and it helped me find my confidence as I grew into an adult.
