00:00Hey guys, I'm Tom from TechJab and this is the new Insta360 GO 3S.
00:05It's in its action pod right now with this lovely flip out screen
00:08and of course its party trick is you can pull it out and then have this little camera
00:13which now shoots in 4K.
00:16So this is the GO 3S.
00:17These are some of the very handy accessories that go with it.
00:20And this is my friend James' dog Neo having the absolute best time.
00:30So over the past couple of weeks, me and my buddy James have been testing the GO 3S
00:39and it's been so much fun.
00:41This thing genuinely makes me think,
00:42oh, how can I make this shot more interesting or get more creative angles
00:46because there's just simply nothing else quite like this.
00:49So it is a very similar setup to last year's GO 3.
00:52This is kind of a bit of a refinement.
00:53It's not like a full GO 4.
00:55It's the 3S.
00:56It's like a refresh version.
00:58And of course the first thing you'll notice is it now comes in black
01:01which looks very smart but also has a practical benefit of being less reflective.
01:04You don't really see many professional cameras being anything other than black.
01:07And the other benefit is it's a lot more subtle.
01:09If I try to avoid my microphone here, I've got my magnetic pendants.
01:13Pop that on there.
01:14A lot less obvious.
01:15Although for privacy concerns, obviously we've still got the LED notification light
01:19which will blink red when it's recording.
01:21So like last year's GO 3, we're getting the same tiny camera
01:24that's basically the size of your thumb
01:26which you can use by itself or pop into this action pod
01:29with its flip-out screen, bigger battery and extra mounting options.
01:33And as I say, while this isn't a full-blown GO 4,
01:35it does have some tasty upgrades
01:37with the headline really being the ability to shoot in 4K up from 2.7K.
01:42And we get a new wide-angle lens
01:44but it is using the same sensor as before
01:45and it still tops out at 30fps at the highest resolution.
01:49But that high resolution means you are going to get sharper, more detailed video
01:53particularly in good lighting.
01:55We also have a new chip that gives us 50% more processing power
01:58which also helps everything feel a bit quicker and more responsive.
02:00They've upgraded the battery in the action pods
02:02and you'll get just under 40 minutes from the camera alone
02:05or around 140 minutes from the camera in the action pod.
02:08Although shooting at the new 4K30
02:10will lower this to around 32 minutes and 122 minutes respectively.
02:14And I think one of the more underrated upgrades
02:16is they've made these magnets a whole lot stronger.
02:19You actually really have to yank it out.
02:21And especially if you're going to pop this onto a metal surface
02:24because obviously this is magnetic.
02:26So let's do a little live test here.
02:30I mean you could do that before
02:32but it feels a lot more secure now.
02:35Isn't that cool?
02:36And finally, if you happen to lose it
02:38which given how small this is
02:40and the fact that it's kind of encouraged to use it in more interesting and unique places
02:43the GO 3S now supports Apple Find My.
02:47Also helpful for tracking down your pets if you've got the camera attached.
02:50Although I wasn't having too much trouble finding Sylvie.
02:54So all together some nice quality of life upgrades.
02:57And of course we still have all the features from last year's GO 3
03:00that made it this properly epic little camera
03:02including being waterproof up to 33 feet or 10 meters.
03:05We have their magnetic mounting system
03:07and in the box you have the magnet pendant
03:09which you just pop around your neck.
03:11You can adjust the length and then have a nice chest level POV shot.
03:18Then there's the easy clip for, well as it says on the tin
03:22clipping probably your hat or your helmet.
03:24Although I do still find this a little bit fiddly to use.
03:27And then we have the pivot stand
03:29which actually has also been refined
03:31and now works better on curved surfaces.
03:33Stick it wherever you want
03:35and the ball head lets you change the angle and the orientation.
03:37Speaking of orientation
03:39the GO 3S will now detect whether you're holding it horizontally or vertically
03:43and then shoot in that aspect ratio.
03:4516 by 9 for YouTube for example
03:479 by 16 for your TikToks and your Instagram.
03:49You do also have the freeform video mode
03:51which records in 4 by 3
03:53so more of a squarish aspect ratio
03:55for using your shots both vertically and horizontally.
03:58But you can just plonk it onto anything metal
04:00or place it in the most random spots
04:02and then either use the Insta360 app on your phone
04:05or the ActionPod's touchscreen
04:07for a live preview and to remote control it.
04:09Which I found works smoothly up to about 5 meters away
04:12although it will depend on your environment.
04:14I'm also dead impressed by how smooth the footage is.
04:16I mean just look how bumpy this road is
04:18as my buddy James here is cycling over it
04:20and this is with the flow state stabilisation set to high
04:23and with horizon lock turned on.
04:25What's interesting though is that
04:27Insta360 aren't really calling this an action camera.
04:29They're marketing it as
04:31the world's smallest 4K vlogging camera.
04:34Which I guess makes sense
04:36because we have the Insta360 Ace and Ace Pro
04:38if you want a proper dedicated action camera
04:40with more shooting options
04:42as this GO 3S tops out at 4K 30
04:44and also if you want swappable batteries
04:46micro SD cards, bigger screens
04:48and just generally more pro features.
04:50And if you are weighing up which makes more sense for you

04:56so have a watch of that at the end of this video.
04:58So on the camera itself in the ActionPod
05:00we have this 2.2 inch flip touchscreen
05:02which can tilt 180 degrees
05:04so you can frame yourself.
05:06Still fairly chunky bezels around it
05:08I wouldn't have said no to a slightly bigger screen
05:10but it is still very useful to have.
05:12We have a single USB-C port
05:14with the camera unlock latch buttony thing above it
05:16we have a built in microphone on the camera itself
05:18which actually does a pretty decent job
05:20the magnetic mounting system on the bottom
05:22just three buttons on the ActionPod
05:24we got the power and an EQ button
05:26for basically quickly switching between modes
05:28and then we have the record on the top.
05:30And both the camera and the pod have this quite nice
05:32soft almost rubbery texture
05:34we also have an LED light on the back of the ActionPod
05:36and on the front of the camera itself
05:38which will flash red when recording
05:40I've just realised there's another creator guy over there
05:42I actually don't know his name
05:44but he's filming his video on the Insta360 as well
05:48That's fun.
05:50You've also got haptic vibrations
05:52which you can even feel through the pendant
05:54and an audible beep when it starts and stops recording.
05:56The only time I've accidentally stopped recording
05:58is when I waved at it and realised the gestures were on.
06:00Oh and another tip
06:02use a lens protector because it saved the day for me
06:04I was using it on a tripod
06:06and the wind tipped it over
06:08and shattered the protector.
06:10Stay safe boys and girls. Use protection.
06:12So on screen, at the bottom left
06:14you have your different modes. Video and free frame
06:16then you've got time lapse for static shots
06:18and time shift if you're moving
06:20then there's slow motion which now shoots at 100fps
06:22at 2.7K
06:24And I'm also shooting this with the
06:26interval mode so it'll repeat
06:28every three minutes so you don't end up with
06:30a super long clip which can be difficult to work with
06:32you can change the duration
06:34and it's just much easier to
06:36take the little clips that you want. So interval is
06:38very useful for vlogging like this.
06:40And it takes a surprisingly decent photo
06:42although mostly I use this for video
06:44and you have three resolution options
06:46with 4K topping out to 30fps
06:48or 50 if you drop the res down to 2.7
06:50but I've stuck with 4K30 for most of my shots
06:52as I want the best quality
06:54although this will drain your battery a bit quicker
06:56I was worried it might overheat a bit and stop recording
06:58but I had this running for over half an hour
07:00just static at room temperature
07:02and there were no issues at all.
07:04You also have four different fields of view
07:06with a couple of extra options if you're shooting in free frame
07:08but most of the time I use dewarp
07:10as it's a nice wide angle with only a little bit of distortion
07:12Oh and definitely turn on
07:14pre-recording which will continually capture
07:1610-30 seconds even before you press
07:18record so you don't miss a good shot
07:20and also in the full settings menu
07:22make sure your video bitrate is set to
07:24high and also you can see here the Go 3S
07:26has 128GB of built in storage
07:28although the base model which is
07:30$30 cheaper comes with half the storage
07:3264GB
07:34Now when you want to get your footage off the camera
07:36you can either wirelessly transfer it via the
07:38Insta360 app or plug in a USB-C
07:40cable between the action port and your laptop
07:42or with this handy accessory
07:44just pop the camera onto this
07:46magnetic mount which you can then just plug straight
07:48into your phone or laptop and transfer
07:50without needing to use the app or any cables
07:52Speaking of the app, once you've imported
07:54your footage you can change the field of view
07:56the aspect ratio, you can use the built in editor
07:58to cut down your clips or specifically
08:00on mobile you can use one of these fancy
08:02AI filters
08:06Pro tip though, make sure you export in the highest
08:08resolution and highest bitrate for the best quality
08:10although I have found the mobile app
08:12does still compress your clips and if you want
08:14the highest possible quality then use
08:16the Insta360 studio app on your laptop
08:18instead
08:20So how much? Well the base
08:2264GB version of the camera with the action
08:24pod will cost you a penny under $400
08:26and it's $30 more
08:28if you want to double the storage which I probably
08:30would give and you can't expand it
08:32The camera by itself is $239.99
08:34for the base model and the action pod
08:36by itself is $149.99
08:38It's also great to see that the new GO 3S
08:40camera is compatible with
08:42last year's GO 3 action pod
08:44So if you already have a GO 3 and want to upgrade
08:46without buying the new action pod you can
08:48buy the 3S as a stand alone camera
08:50So that's the new
08:52GO 3S from Insta360
08:54It's not a night and day upgrade over the
08:56GO 3 from last year but there are some
08:58nice improvements, 4K resolution
09:00longer battery life, there's new black colour
09:02stronger magnets, a couple of extra features
09:04One of the most fun and versatile
09:06little cameras you can buy
