00:00Is that not one of the best-looking phones you've ever seen?
00:03This is the new Oppo Find X6 Pro,
00:06and it's not just this fancy jewel-tone vegan leather design
00:10that makes me incredibly excited about this.
00:12I mean, I could film this thing all day,
00:14and I love the fact that we get a matching case bundled in the box.
00:20It also has one of the brightest screens you can get on a phone,
00:23proper flagship specs like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2,
00:26up to 16 gigs of RAM and 512 storage,
00:28and 5,000 mAh battery.
00:29But the best bit, as you probably guessed,
00:31is this has quite possibly the most advanced camera system on any phone,
00:36with its triple 50-megapixel setup and huge one-inch sensor for the main lens.
00:42Very exciting stuff then,
00:43and proper competition to the likes of the Vivo X90 Pro and the Xiaomi 13 Pro,
00:48both of which also have one-inch camera sensors,
00:50and of course the default flagship Android phone, if you will, the S23 Ultra.
00:55However, there is a problem.
00:57A rather large problem.
00:58You can't actually buy this.
01:00In a cruel twist, after years of the X series launching globally,
01:03and also Oppo ticking me on a super-secret trip to Spain a few weeks ago to test the camera,
01:08and then also sending me this review sample,
01:10it turns out this is only launching in China.
01:12Kind of like the Find N2,
01:14although unlike the new N2 Flip, which is launching globally.
01:18And it is odd.
01:19I mean, we've had the Find X5 and X3 and X2
01:22and all previous X series phones, I think, launching internationally,
01:26but for whatever reason, the Oppo bosses are like,
01:28let's send these US and UK media samples of the phone,
01:31let's take them on trips to test the camera,
01:33teach them how to use it,
01:34and show off this fantastic new phone with a drool-worthy camera,
01:37but then let's not sell it to them.
01:39That'll show them.
01:40So unless you want to ship one from China and then enable Google services
01:43and download the Google Play Store via APK,
01:45which is what I've done here,
01:46well, you're out of luck.
01:48There is always a chance it'll launch outside China in a few months,
01:50as we often do see these separate launch windows,
01:53but there's nothing confirmed.
01:55But hold your horses.
01:56Before you skip to the next video because you think,
01:57well, that's a complete waste of time if I can't buy it,
02:00stay tuned because actually this is a really exciting phone
02:03and this camera is going to blow you away.
02:06We have to start with this camera
02:07because while it's not the first to boast a one-inch main sensor,
02:10we already have the Xiaomi 13 Pro and Vivo X90 Pro
02:13and each with their own named photography brand
02:15tuning their software to various extents,
02:17but Oppo is marketing the X6 Pro as not just having a main camera,
02:22but three main cameras.
02:2450 megapixel wide with that big one-inch sensor and a Sony IMX 989,
02:28then the ultra-wide and telephoto,
02:30which have smaller sensors and share the same lower tier IMX 890.
02:34But they are still higher spec than pretty much any other rival
02:37and importantly, both the hardware and the software with the processing
02:41aims to deliver an unrivaled continuity between all three lenses.
02:45There's no weak link here and I have to say,
02:46having played with this for the past couple of weeks,
02:48from Malaga to London,
02:50at home and also on a beautifully styled wedding shoot
02:52with my wife for her floristry business,
02:54this camera system is very impressive.
02:56The dynamic range, the detail, the texture on the skin
02:59and as promised, switching between the lenses is smooth
03:02and it maintains the color, the white balance and the detail,
03:05although the bokeh,
03:05that deliciously professional looking background blur
03:08is much stronger with the main lens thanks to the bigger sensor,
03:11which by the way is 156% larger than the X5 Pro
03:15and can capture 142% more light, which is more.
03:20The ultra wide also doubles as a very capable macro lens,
03:23although I did turn off the auto macro mode
03:25to avoid that annoying lens switching
03:27when you get a bit too close to your subject.
03:29But then at the other end of the spectrum,
03:31the zoom on this thing is fantastic
03:34and it gives the S23 Ultra some proper competition.
03:37Oppo say this is the largest sensor
03:39and also the largest aperture for a periscopic telephoto camera
03:43and it shows.
03:44In fact, they're so confident with their hybrid zoom
03:47beyond the optical three times,
03:49they even give us a shortcut to the six times zoom in the camera app,
03:52which they say using their in-sensor zoom technology
03:55and also pixel binning does give us a six times optical zoom,
03:59but it's somewhat debatable if that's truly optical.
04:01Either way though, six times zoom on this looks bloody good,
04:04even at night.
04:07You're going to be sick of me drooling over this camera
04:09by the end of the video, I promise,
04:10but the quality and the versatility of this thing
04:12is just incredible.
04:15From the macro and the ultra wide to the two times zoom,
04:18which uses a 12 megapixel crop of that one inch main camera's
04:2150 megapixel resolution,
04:22to the optical three times,
04:24then the quote unquote optical six times
04:26and I reckon even up to 15 times is still very usable
04:29and I'm equally impressed by how this performs
04:31in low light and at night time.
04:35Photos look natural,
04:36the night mode shots aren't overly exposed
04:38or unrealistically bright.
04:39I'm still blown away by what this camera is capable of
04:42in basically any lighting conditions.
04:49But I know what you're thinking,
04:50Tom, what about moon photos?
04:52I take moon photos all the time,
04:54says no one ever,
04:55but obviously we do have this recent controversy
04:57with the S23 Ultra
04:59and how Samsung are kind of replacing
05:01slash a upscaling pictures of the moon.
05:04The complexities and questions over
05:05what actually is a photo
05:06when is what they're doing cheating
05:08or actually just giving you what you want
05:09is probably a conversation for another time,
05:11but the question is,
05:12does this do the same?
05:13And actually, I think it might.
05:16This is the moon
05:17and if we go through the different lenses,
05:18zooming further and further in,
05:20nothing really going on there
05:21except a bright spot in the sky
05:23until suddenly we get this,
05:25which looks exceptionally good.
05:27Too good, you might say.
05:29I need to do more research
05:30and also probably get a comment from Oppo
05:32to tell me how it actually works
05:33before I give any sort of conclusive judgment on that,
05:36but it does look a little bit too good to be true.
05:39What do you think?
05:42As I say, I've taken a ton of photos with this
05:44and many side-by-side with the iPhone 14 Pro Max
05:47and here's a few examples,
05:48but if you would like me to make a full versus video
05:50between these two,
05:51let me know in the comments.
05:52Although my impression is the Oppo
05:54is better for photography and also portrait shots,
05:56but the iPhone wins for selfies and video.
06:02It can all get very complicated
06:03trying to explain how the camera on this works
06:05because we've got the hardware,
06:06we've got their own Marry Silicon X MPU,
06:09which is their little extra chip,
06:11which can take some of the stress
06:12off this Snapdragon chips ISP
06:14and then sort of handles it itself
06:15and also with ultra low light video
06:17and also HDR video does some extra processing.
06:19So we also have that Marry Silicon X
06:21and also of course the Hasselblad partnership,
06:23which adds a couple of classic camera modes like X-Pan
06:26and also of course their color science,
06:28although apparently that is still limited
06:29to the Pro camera app.
06:31However, the important thing is for photography.
06:33This is one of, if not the best camera phone on the market,
06:37but there is another problem
06:38aside from not being able to buy this
06:40and that is that they've kind of forgotten
06:42about video and the selfie
06:43because while video quality is a little bit better
06:46versus last year's X5 Pro,
06:47thanks to the improved algorithm
06:49and better software processing,
06:50it's not a significant upgrade,
06:51particularly from a hardware perspective.
06:53Although you can now shoot Dolby Vision HDR in 4K 30
06:57and the best bit is you can watch it back
06:58on the X6 Pro screen as it also supports Dolby Vision.
07:02So video on the X6 Pro is broadly very good.
07:05No major upgrades in quality,
07:06but it still fares well even in low light,
07:08thanks in part to that Marry Silicon X
07:10and its ultra low light noise reduction.
07:17The less said about their portrait video, the better.
07:20I literally have no words for how bad this is.
07:23Maybe updates will fix this
07:24or maybe it's just absolutely rubbish.
07:27There's also been no real improvements
07:29to the selfie camera either over the X5 Pro.
07:31It's the same 32 megapixel IMX709 RGBW sensor.
07:36It is still pretty good
07:37and even in low light, I'm impressed by the detail
07:39and the white balance.
07:40So as with video, no hardware upgrade, but it's still fine.
07:44What's not so fine though is selfie video
07:46because even with its flagship hardware
07:48and flagship price, we're still limited to 1080p 30
07:51and it doesn't appear there's any kind of stabilization.
07:54Honestly, this is borderline unforgivable
07:56and it's a very similar story to the OnePlus 11.
07:58I just don't know why video
08:00and the selfie camera are such afterthoughts.
08:05Okay, I'm shooting this on the X6 Pro with the back camera
08:08because I could use a selfie,
08:10but it's still limited to 1080p.
08:12Still limited to 1080p, not ideal.
08:14But I'm really curious what the low light video is
08:18with the main camera, it's that one inch sensor.
08:20Looking at the screen, it does seem remarkably stable.
08:23Still can't shoot in 8K though.
08:25You know, the S23 Ultra can do 8K 30 now,
08:28still limited to 4K 60,
08:29but to be honest, who cares really?
08:32No one's shooting in 8K.
08:34But it definitely feels like they're prioritizing
08:37photography rather than video
08:41and indeed the selfie camera as well.
08:44I mean, it really does feel more like a camera
08:46than a phone in some ways with this huge module on the back
08:49which completely dominates the design.
08:51And because of the size of it,
08:52if you are watching videos or gaming
08:53or just using it in landscape mode,
08:55your fingers are always going to rest right on the lenses like that.
08:59So you're going to get some greasy, mucky fingerprints.
09:02It's such a cool design though.
09:03And there are so many little touches
09:05that just make it feel even more premium.
09:07Like the camera module has this split two-tone design
09:09just like the back of the phone
09:11with this orangey vegan leather
09:12and metallic looking glass dual tone back,
09:15which I must admit I had kind of hoped
09:16might be a manual focus ring when I first picked this up.
09:19It is not, but I did notice only this vegan leather model
09:22has these tiny little etchings or grooves in that ring.
09:26The other black and green glass versions
09:28don't have this for some reason.
09:29I don't know why I'm giving buying advice
09:31on a phone you can't buy,
09:32but I would go with the vegan leather model,
09:34although actually the downside is it's 0.4 millimeters thicker
09:37than the other glass versions.
09:39But whichever model you don't buy,
09:41you'll get IP68 water resistance
09:42and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the front.
09:45It's a great looking phone.
09:46Although these curved edges to the screen
09:48aren't going to be everyone's cup of tea,
09:49but it certainly looks and feels high-end.
09:51And I think most of us are probably quite pleased
09:53to see Oppo moving on from the design of the X3 and X5 Pros.
09:58Up front, this big 6.82 inch Quad HD Plus 120 Hertz screen
10:02is largely unchanged,
10:04although it does now utilize LTPO3 text
10:06so we get more efficient dynamic switching of the refresh rate
10:09and also extra credit to Oppo for letting me select auto switch
10:12for both the resolution and the refresh rate.
10:14However, the biggest upgrade here,
10:16aside from also now supporting Dolby Vision along with HDR10,
10:19is we get a brighter screen.
10:20And according to Oppo,
10:22it can achieve 800 nits with normal indoor use,
10:251500 outdoors, 2200 nits with HDR,
10:28and an absolute peak of 2500 nits,
10:32which would make this the brightest phone ever.
10:35But I cannot replicate those numbers to save my life.
10:38Even playing HDR video in direct sunlight,
10:40maybe I'm missing a trick and doing it wrong.
10:42And it is still very bright, so I'm not complaining,
10:44but I just haven't been able to replicate
10:46Oppo's own numbers myself.
10:48Regardless, it is an incredible screen
10:50and looking at your photo gallery,
10:51which I found myself doing quite a lot with this phone,
10:53watching videos or playing games,
10:55it all looks and sounds fantastic
10:57with the dual Dolby Atmos speakers.
10:59Which should I choose?
11:01Now, speaking of gaming,
11:02I have come across a bit of a problem with this.
11:05Let's talk about performance.
11:07And no surprises,
11:08this boasts the latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2
11:10with faster RAM and storage.
11:12And in Geekbench 6, it performs as expected
11:14versus the latest from Xiaomi, Vivo and Samsung.
11:16Although you can see the Vivo's multi-core
11:18is surprisingly low due to throttling,
11:20which unfortunately we do also see on the X6 Pro
11:24if we bring in the results from the graphically demanding
11:2620-minute 3DMark Wildlife Extreme Stress Test.
11:29But the stability is just 41%,
11:32meaning we have a low of just 6 frames per second.
11:35It does use less battery as a result,
11:36but only because the chip isn't at full power for as long.
11:39Now, I can't say if it's the material being used
11:42or poor internal cooling,
11:43but either way,
11:44while this won't affect you in everyday use
11:46and it still feels very nice and fast,
11:47gamers will want to look elsewhere,
11:49which is disappointing.
11:51Although some good news is the new chip
11:52gives us Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 7 support,
11:55which is nice.
11:56Now, as for battery life,
11:57I am working on a big 2023 flagship smartphone comparison video
12:01to test the batteries and see how they all compare,
12:03so make sure you have subscribed and stay tuned for that.
12:05But so far, it's been lasting me a good day and a half
12:07by the end of a regular day using this,
12:09which I haven't been doing as like my regular phone
12:12because this is the Chinese version
12:13and I'm not getting 5G on my SIM card,
12:15so it's not like a like for like.
12:17We have a healthy 5,000 mAh cell
12:19and Oppo promised you'll still have 80% of your battery's capacity
12:22even after four years.
12:23We also get their 100W SuperVOOC fast charging,
12:26which gives us 0 to 100 in 28 minutes,
12:29plus 50W wireless AirVOOC
12:31and also 10W reverse wireless charging.
12:33And finally, in terms of software,
12:34this ship's running Android 13
12:36with Oppo's ColorOS 13.1 on top
12:39and they promise a fairly mediocre three years of Android updates.
12:43So to wrap up,
12:43I am genuinely really disappointed
12:45that you can't buy this outside China,
12:47although I guess in lieu of this,
12:48if you want something very similar,
12:50I would say the Xiaomi 13 Pro is its closest rival
12:53with a pretty similar camera setup.
12:55The zoom is not quite as good,
12:56although in some ways,
12:57I actually prefer the camera processing on this.
12:59I also found performance and battery life
13:01to be a little bit better on the Xiaomi
13:02and also you can buy it,
13:03which is quite literally a big selling point.
13:06But what do you think?
13:07If you could buy this,
13:08would you be tempted?
13:09Let me know what you make of this in the comments below
13:11and if you enjoy this review
13:12and don't want to miss my next video,
13:13including my big battery comparison,
13:15make sure you have hit that subscribe button.
13:17Thank you so much for watching guys
13:18and I'll see you next time right here on The Tech Chat.
