00:00Hey guys, I'm Tomatek Jaff and this is the new Oppo Reno 8 Pro, which is actually a two-in-one. It's a phone and a mirror
00:08Now a big thank you to Oppo for sending this over for me to test and I've got the pro model here
00:13Which is launching alongside the regular Reno 8 and also a light version and while they've had a swanky launch event in Paris
00:20I was able to get a sneaky sample a little bit early to show you guys
00:24So the Reno series is Oppo's mid to upper mid-range phones with the Reno 8 Pro sitting just below the
00:30flagship Find X5 and the X5 Pro
00:35Although it does borrow some of the tech from its flagship brothers
00:38We get the same 80 watt SuperVOOC charging the same IMX 766 camera sensor for the main lens
00:44And we're also getting Oppo's Marry Silicon X
00:46MPU in here, which is basically an extra AI module that works with the camera to improve video particularly in tricky lighting
00:54And actually the Reno does one better than the X5 Pro with a higher quality selfie camera
00:59In fact, this is the best front-facing camera Oppo have ever put on a phone
01:03Not too shabby considering the Reno 8 Pro will cost you a pretty reasonable
01:08£599
01:10The Reno 8 Pro has definitely taken some design inspiration from the X5 Pro as well
01:14We get this sleek single piece of glass curving up and around the camera module
01:19It is Gorilla Glass 5 front and back not the tougher Victus
01:22But this thing does look good
01:23Even if the glazed black color is a little bit hard to show off on camera
01:27I'd probably go for the more interesting glazed green and as you can see this mirror finish also makes it a bit of a fingerprint
01:33magnet
01:34This thing is incredibly thin though at just 7.34 millimeters and also weighs just 183 grams
01:41You really can feel just how thin this is when you pick it up
01:44Although I did notice because of the size of that camera module my index finger would often rest on the corner
02:03There's also no headphone jack or micro SD card support
02:06But we do get some solid stereo speakers and an IP54 rating which means it's splash resistant
02:12So maybe don't take it in the shower with you. Now this flat almost bezel-less screen really does look good
02:18It's a 6.7 inch 10-bit AMOLED full HD plus and 120 Hertz screen
02:23Which you can switch but it's not a properly dynamic LTPO panel
02:27It does also support HDR 10 plus but not Dolby Vision
02:31But what about on the inside?
02:33Well, we have MediaTek's brand spanking new Dimensity 8100 Max chip
02:38Which is based on a smaller and more efficient 5 nanometer architecture than the 1200 max that we got in last year's Reno 7
02:46Now sadly, I don't have last year's model with me to compare side by side
02:50But what I can tell you is in Genshin Impact on medium high settings and 60 FPS
02:55Of course it ran beautifully and actually even after about half an hour. It didn't get particularly hot
03:00Thanks to both the new ultra conductive cooling system and also the more efficient hardware
03:05MediaTek's chips have come a long way in the last couple of years
03:09And that is paired with 8 gigs of RAM which can be boosted up to 13 by their virtual RAM that uses some of your storage
03:15Which you may as well do since we have a very healthy
03:19256 gigabytes of the stuff in fact
03:21The 8 plus 256 is the only option available for the Reno 8 Pro one spec one price
03:27Now this guy ships running color OS 12.1.1 which is on top of Android 12 now
03:33There are some pre-installed apps, but you can easily hide or remove these and overall it's fast
03:37You have a good amount of personalization and extra options and we should expect color OS and also Android 13 later this year
03:43Or the very latest the start of 2023 now as for battery life
03:47We get a good size 4500 million power cell which has been getting me to about 11 p.m
03:52And night with around 25% left
03:54We do also get fast 80 watt charging courtesy of Oppo's super VOOC charger and just 11 minutes
04:01We'll get you up to 50% The only downside is we don't get any wireless charging
04:07Let's talk about this camera because once again Oppo have put a lot of emphasis on it
04:11And while they find x5 Pro does still outclass it as the Reno 8 Pro lacks a telephoto lens and also the ultra-wide uses a lower
04:18quality sensor
04:19Importantly the main camera is roughly the same and as I say the selfie is even better and first impressions
04:25It does a pretty good job. Even in tricky lighting colors are natural
04:29There's a good amount of detail and dynamic range
04:32And I mostly shot with the AI scene enhancement mode enabled which in low-light did produce slightly better shots
04:38Although at the cost of a slower shutter speed so it can be easier to get a blurry photo
04:50You
04:52Video is fantastic though. It's sharp and buttery smooth even at 4k
04:57Plus if you do have that AI mode turned on if you're shooting in really low light
05:02It'll automatically kick in the 4k ultra dark video mode
05:05Which uses the Mara silicon X AI to reduce noise grind the video and improve the white balance
05:10Oppo says it also improves dynamic range when you have lots of bright and dark areas in a scene and in some situations it did seem
05:17To make a difference particularly on this video. I shot on the London Underground
05:27Switching round to the selfie
05:28It's a 32 megapixel camera and for the first time on an Oppo we get autofocus a new
05:34RGBW sensor that lets more light in so whatever magic is going on behind the scenes my first impressions of the Reno 8's camera are
05:41very good
05:42Okay, let's wrap up and I must admit Oppo's Reno phones haven't particularly excited me in the past
05:47There's a lot of competition at this price point
05:50But I think there's a lot to like here good performance good battery life a really good camera
05:54But take that with the caveat that this is not a full review and I do need to spend more time with the battery in
05:59The camera to get a fuller idea
06:01But what do you reckon tempted let me know the comments below and I've also put a link in the description if you want to
