00:00This is something a little bit special.
00:02It's the new Realme GT 5G.
00:05And I know it's a cliche
00:07and it's really annoying when people say this,
00:09but this is genuinely as close
00:11to a proper flagship killer phone
00:14that we've seen in years, it really is.
00:16And with this, we're getting a Snapdragon 888 processor
00:20and a 120 Hertz AMOLED screen,
00:22all for just 369 euros when it launches on June 21st.
00:28That's the same top of the line Snapdragon chip
00:31used in say the Galaxy S21 Ultra,
00:34which costs almost four times as much,
00:37or more realistically, something like the OnePlus 9,
00:39which also uses it,
00:40but still costs almost twice as much as this Realme GT.
00:45So I don't think you can get a more powerful phone
00:49for less money.
00:49It's as simple as that.
00:51That's not to say this is perfect
00:52or it's not without compromise
00:54to get to this super low price,
00:56but you can't argue with the value for money,
00:58but it gets better because I've actually teamed up
01:01with Realme for a giveaway of the GT,
01:04not just one or two or three or four or five.
01:07I actually get to give away 10 of these phones to you guys,
01:11which I think makes this my biggest giveaway ever
01:14for a phone, which is amazing.
01:16So a big thank you to Realme for supporting the channel
01:18and also you guys with that.
01:20And I'll give you all the details
01:21for how to win at the end of the video.
01:22So stay tuned and also subscribe, obviously.
01:26So I've been playing with the new Realme GT 5G
01:29for a couple of weeks now,
01:30and this is their new flagship,
01:32all singing, all dancing phone for 2021,
01:35which is no surprise given these specs.
01:39Inside the box, we have the usual gubbins,
01:41nothing too crazy until you see that bright yellow design.
01:45We also get a fast 65 watt dart charger
01:49and the usual USB-C cable,
01:50plus a nice little rubber case to keep your phone safe.
01:56And there it is, the famous Realme bright yellow,
02:01which is usually only reserved for the box,
02:04but this time it's actually on the back of the phone.
02:06Racing yellow, it's called,
02:07along with this two-tone design.
02:09And well, since this phone is all about performance,
02:11this is clearly a go faster stripe as well.
02:14But it does kind of remind me
02:15of one of these Ford Mustangs,
02:18but I genuinely think this looks pretty cool
02:20and it feels good to hold as well.
02:22So it looks and feels like a faux leather
02:24and it nicely contrasts with the glossy stripe.
02:27And it also serves to make it really grippy and comfortable.
02:30Plus it doesn't pick up any smudges or fingerprints.
02:33I do just have to read this though
02:34from their reviewer's guide for this.
02:37And Realme say the camera matrix
02:40extends infinitely downward,
02:42paying tribute to the bionic design
02:44of the tear stained headlights.
02:46The speedy yellow represents the dawn
02:48of the bright future at morning,
02:51a tribute to the young people
02:52who are moving at full speed.
02:57Who writes this?
02:59Marketing spiel aside,
03:01we have this triple lens camera at the top,
03:03power button on the right hand side,
03:04volume and the dual SIM tray,
03:06although no micro SD sadly on the left.
03:08And then on the bottom, we get the speaker.
03:10We do get stereo speakers by the way,
03:12USB-C port and look at that, a headphone jack.
03:15Not something you see very often
03:16on a top spec phone like this.
03:18And then finally up front,
03:19we have this little corner hole punch selfie cutout.
03:23We also get an in-screen fingerprint reader
03:24and the whole thing weighs just 186 grams.
03:27The only downside really
03:28is that there's no wireless charging
03:30and also we're not getting any official IP rating.
03:33So don't take this in the shower with you.
03:36Okay, let's not mess around.
03:37Let's see what this thing can do.
03:39And the entry level model I have here
03:41comes with a healthy eight gigs of RAM and 128 storage.
03:44Although I did wonder if maybe Realme had cut some corners
03:47on the speed of the RAM and storage,
03:49but rest assured it's the good stuff.
03:51DDR5 and UFS 3.1.
03:54So I ran the 3DMark Wildlife Extreme 20 minute stress test
03:58to see how the GT would fare and these are the results.
04:01But then if I bring in the brand new OnePlus Nord CE,
04:05which just launched and costs about the same as this,
04:08but with a Snapdragon 750G and also the OnePlus 9,
04:11which was one of the cheapest triple eight phones
04:14you could buy, you can see there's really no compromise
04:16with the GT despite its lower price.
04:20So no surprises really, anything you throw at this,
04:23it just breezes through.
04:24And of course, since we have this 120 Hertz screen,
04:27it'll fully max out games that support the high refresh.
04:30All it's missing is a couple of shoulder buttons
04:32and a clip on fan and this would be a proper gaming phone.
04:35And naturally the performance carries over
04:37to everyday use as well.
04:39So we're getting Android 11 out of the box,
04:41but you can actually install the Android 12 beta
04:43straight away if you want to.
04:45And we also have Realme's UI 2.0 skin on top.
04:48Yes, there's the usual pre-installed apps and bloatware
04:50that helps them keep the cost down a little bit,
04:53but I just remove or hide them away in a folder
04:54so it's not a big deal.
04:56And generally I find the UI really nice to use.
04:58It's fast, I like having the Google News Feed
05:01left on the home screen,
05:02there's a ton of customization options
05:04and actually I quite like some of the options
05:06you get in the labs menu as well.
05:08I keep smooth scrolling and DC dimming turned on
05:11and also Realme promises at least two years
05:13of Android updates.
05:15So the headline really is the fact
05:18that we're getting the Snapdragon 888 at this price point.
05:20But the other big selling point for me
05:22is the fact that we're getting this 120 hertz AMOLED screen
05:25because I've reviewed the latest Realme 8 and 8 5G
05:29and that's always kind of like a balance
05:30between do you want high refresh with an LCD screen
05:33or AMOLED at 60 hertz?
05:35It's often like this sort of balancing act
05:37just because they're trying to keep the cost down
05:38and there's always a bit of a compromise, but not with this.
05:41This is the best of both worlds.
05:43Plus we're getting a 360 hertz touch sampling rate
05:46which is particularly useful for gaming.
05:48And in the display settings,
05:49you can switch between P3, sRGB and brilliant picture modes
05:53although I tend to keep it in vivid.
05:55And I also turned on the edge lighting.
05:57I think the neon purple looks quite snazzy.
05:59As for the battery, it's okay.
06:01It gets me through a full day.
06:02I usually have about 25% left by 11 p.m.
06:05We're getting a decent size 4,500 mAh battery in here
06:09which is pretty good given the size of the phone overall
06:12but obviously we do have that 120 hertz
06:14with that pretty powerful processor
06:16so that does have an impact
06:17particularly of course if you are playing games all day
06:19although I did find one hour of gaming
06:21used up about 22% of the battery.
06:24So the battery life is fine.
06:26It's good.
06:27Nothing really to write home about
06:28but of course we do also have that fast 65 watt dark charging
06:32so you can top it up nice and quickly.
06:34And then there's the camera
06:35which I think as we all pretty much expected
06:37is kind of the only area that makes this
06:40not quite the full flagship killer that it could have been
06:44but it's still pretty good.
06:46It's a triple lens setup with a 64 megapixel main,
06:4816 megapixel ultra wide and a macro lens
06:51so no telephoto here
06:53and also the main lens does use Sony's older
06:55IMX682 sensor which is the same one you get in say
06:58last year's Realme 7 Pro but it still does a good job.
07:02Yes, it's not gonna quite compete with your S21 Ultra
07:04or iPhone 12 Pro Max but again,
07:06given that 325 pound-ish early bird price,
07:10it's pretty damn good for the money.
07:12Colors are accurate and not too oversaturated.
07:15Skin tones are realistic
07:16and dynamic range is actually very good
07:18with bright clouds and dark shadows equally well exposed.
07:22Although the quality does dip in lower light
07:24as you'd expect, there's more noise
07:26and fine detail gets a little softer
07:28but the night mode does help things out a little bit.
07:35We do also get this ultra macro mode which is fine
07:38but honestly the quality's a bit iffy
07:39and it's not something I'd use very often.
07:41We do get stabilized 4K 30 video though
07:44which is great to see.
07:45It tops out at 4K 60 but there's no 8K
07:48and also the front video caps at 1080p which is fine
07:51but again, not quite flagship.
08:03So should you buy this?
08:04Well, downsides, there's no micro SD,
08:07no IP water resistance, so-so battery
08:10and the camera is good but not amazing.
08:12But on the plus side, we get this fantastic design,
08:15top-notch performance with impressive cooling,
08:17this lovely screen, fast charging
08:19and just a completely unbeatable price.
08:24So hats off to Realme.
08:26They've produced a stunning, incredibly good value phone
08:29and I highly recommend it and I will leave links below
08:32if you want to check it out.
08:33Although I should say the entry-level model
08:35with 8 gigs of RAM and 128 storage
08:37will only be on AliExpress which you can still buy in the UK
08:41but the higher spec one with 12 gigs of RAM
08:43and 256 storage will be coming to Amazon
08:45and I'll leave links for both in the description
08:47as well as everything else you need to know
08:49but I know why you guys have been watching to the end,
08:51not just to listen to me waffle on,
08:53it's because you wanna know how you can win one of these.
08:55Well, it's very simple actually.
08:56I will leave a Gleam link in the description below
08:59and also in the pinned comments so just follow that
09:01and there's a bunch of ways you can enter.
09:03I have 10 phones to give away.
09:05It is UK and Europe only I'm afraid,
09:08that's just a logistical restriction I was given
09:11and also this will only be running for two days.
09:12I will pick the winners on the 17th,
09:14confirm with them and then let you guys know
09:17via a pinned comment as well
09:18and if you are one of the lucky 10 to win,
09:21it would be amazing if you could then share your thoughts,
09:24maybe a quick review of what you think of it
09:26when you receive your device.
09:27Both myself and Realme would love to know
09:29what you guys think of this as well.
09:31Thank you so much for watching guys.
09:32I'll see you next time right here
09:34in this very hot and muggy studio.
09:37I've got to figure out the airflow for this place.
09:39In the studio next time on a Tech Chat.
09:42Thanks for watching.
