00:00Here's a question literally no one is asking can I play my games maxed out in 8k
00:06With one of these an RTX 4090 well spoiler alert
00:11Yeah, this is cyberpunk 2077 maxed out settings running on my samsung 8k TV, and we're getting
00:1869 70 frames per second there are a couple of caveats that will come to in a second
00:24But incredibly I am getting over 60 FPS at 8k in every game
00:28I tested cyberpunk flight sim Forza Horizon 5 war zone even bloody crisis and things get really silly in overwatch 2
00:36Where I'm averaging over 400 FPS in 8k
00:40You can get some pretty ridiculous frame rates with this particularly in older or less demanding games
00:45I did want to fire up some members succeeds to see how just high that could go
00:49But it wouldn't actually work for me, but bear in mind. I am running pre-release drivers with a 4090
00:53I'm sure there's a few kinks still be worked out, so this is not the bottleneck anymore
00:57I've got more performance than I can actually use the issue now is this the HDMI 2.1 cable or the TV
01:05I'm using I'm limited to 8k 60 because of the bandwidth it does also support HDR and VRR
01:10But I miss my high refresh rates
01:13Now I will admit this setup is a bit silly
01:16I think there's only like five people in the world who actually own an 8k TV because they are a bit
01:21Pointless outside of a few fancy YouTube video demos that of course are compressed as well
01:26There's nothing really to do on an 8k TV. There's no native content
01:30It's all upscaled that is until now because for the first time ever 8k gaming is a reality and also
01:36I'll be testing this in another video, but even 8k video editing particularly with the new dual AV one encoders
01:42But purely for games with an RTX 4090 in a setup like this you can properly game at 8k without knocking down
01:49All your settings or living with a stop-motion style frame rate the main downside is of course being limited to 60 Hertz
01:55Which any proper gamer would rightly scoff at but if your goal is to have the absolute highest quality
02:01sharpest gaming experience possible
02:05It's pretty cool. So this is a 65 inch Samsung QLED 8k TV
02:10Which means at 76 80 by 43 20 we're getting a hundred and thirty five pixels per inch
02:16Which is roughly the same as a 32 inch 4k screen. Don't get me wrong
02:20It is very nice
02:21But really I would recommend at least a 75 inch if not bigger TV to properly appreciate 8k
02:27Because I'm sitting what six seven feet away. Normally. I'm on that side of the desk as well
02:32I don't tend to game with my back to the TV and it can be hard to see the difference sometimes
02:36But get up close and not only can't you see any visible pixels, but everything just looks real
02:42I mean just look at this cockpit and these instruments and flight sim. It's so good
02:46I mean turn on HDR get yourself some tasty flight controls rather than this Xbox controller and this could be a great sim setup
02:53I know my dad who's probably watching is already thinking how he can borrow this
02:57So before my dad does come over and nick this let me show you the setup
03:01I've got here because I've actually built a brand new PC just to accommodate this
03:054090 with the parts provided by the lovely folks over at scan.co.uk
03:09I've used these guys for their pre-built systems their crack 3xs systems team are top-notch
03:15But in this case I use scan to pick out and get the parts I needed for this build
03:19Because the truth is you are literally wasting your money unless you have an incredibly powerful PC behind the 4090
03:25So you're not bottlenecking it. In fact, I have the brand spanking new Ryzen 9 7950 X 16 core up to
03:335.7 gigahertz processor that's before overclocking and in some games. I'm still limited by the CPU
03:38I also have an ROG crosshair x6 70 e hero motherboard
03:42I've got 32 gigs of DDR 5
03:456200 megahertz Corsair Vengeance RAM
03:47Which is just about the fastest gaming RAM in the world right now a 2 terabyte WDSN 850 X SSD
03:54Which is getting me blisteringly fast
03:577300 megabytes per second read and writes plus also a 4 terabyte Sabrin SSD is my second drive so that I'm
04:04Definitely prepared for modern warfare 2 a 1000 watt Corsair HX PSU
04:08Although I would have liked one a new PCI 5 model
04:11So I'd have to use this monster 4 into 1 plug adapter for the 4090
04:15Then we have the Corsair H 150 I elite AIO cooler with its customizable LCD screen
04:20Then a few Corsair fans and it all fits nicely inside my fractal design torrent case
04:26So I am probably gonna swap out this PSU soon and also add some more lighting in here to zhuzh it up a little bit
04:31But overall I'm pretty happy with this build. Although would you make any changes or upgrades?

04:42Would I have liked the Zed to LG OLED 8k which costs about 22 grand? Yes
04:48But this will have to do honestly, I don't even know how much this all costs
04:51It's probably around six grand or something kind of ridiculous
04:55And to be honest if you go for a 4080 and then a more reasonable 4k 32 inch 144 Hertz monitor
05:01Which I think is gonna be a better option
05:03Straight away you'll save yourself over a grand. But the question is just how powerful is the RTX 4090?
05:09Well for context here is the RTX 3090
05:12I do appreciate the 3090 TI was about 5% faster, but no one really bought that and I don't have one
05:19so I'll be comparing it against this and
05:21Firing up a bit of flight sim the 3090 averages 73 FPS and 4k and 46 FPS in 8k
05:28Which is decent but the 4090 roughly doubles that
05:33151 FPS at 4k 81 at 8k
05:36So whether you have a 4k 144 Hertz monitor or an 8k 60 TV like this
05:40You are fully maxing it out all with the highest graphics settings
05:44Switching over to cyberpunk which now has this handy benchmark tool and with ray tracing
05:49It's still one of the most demanding games out there
05:51And as you can see the 3090 struggles with just 54 FPS at 4k and Amiga 28 at 8k
05:58Whereas the 4090 averages 140 at 4k and 65 at 8k again
06:04Roughly doubling the performance thanks to the extra horsepower and also DLSS 3
06:09I'm keen to give cyberpunk another chance, and I think I might be the only person playing it through in 8k
06:16Now so far these games like flight sim cyberpunk and also I think spider-man
06:20Justice and f1282 among a handful of others all support Nvidia's DLSS 3 technology
06:26Which as frame generation to the mix, but in terms of regular games like pure rasterized performance
06:32How much faster is this or is it all down to that magical DLSS wizardry?
06:36Well, I can tell you in Forza Horizon 5 which right now doesn't support any kind of DLSS
06:41Although it is expected to come soon and which looks absolutely stunning by the way with this setup the 3090 averaged 81 FPS at 4k
06:48and 35 at 8k versus
06:52147 at 4k and
06:5376 FPS at 8k I was genuinely blown away by this no DLSS
06:58No RT really the 4090 is around 75% faster at 4k and about a hundred and ten percent faster at 8k
07:07Forza is famously a very CPU demanding game
07:09So I'm sure the 7950 X and here is doing a lot of legwork as well
07:13But realistically if you're gonna drop the best part of or even more than two grand on a 4090
07:18You're probably gonna have a pretty beefy CPU to go with it
07:24I must admit though as I'm cruising around in Forza or getting killed in overwatch 2 or warzone
07:29I do miss a high refresh rate 8k is gorgeous, but I want 120 or 144 Hertz as well
07:37Now to avoid boring you all to death here are my results from every game
07:40I've tested so far in both 4k and 8k with ultra settings DLSS enabled where it's supported and I've also included the 1% lows
07:48To give you an idea of overall smoothness and on average the 4090 is about 80% faster than the 3090
07:55Which is a very impressive gen on gen boost in performance
07:59However before we get to the question of value for money and whether anyone in their right mind should actually buy a 4090
08:05There are a couple of things you need to keep in mind
08:08Number one this thing is
08:10Massive the 4090 FE that I have here provided by Nvidia has a similar design to the 3090
08:15But it's around a third thicker. This is a proper three and a half slot card
08:20So you're not gonna get this in any old mini ITX PC for your living room
08:24And I think to be safe, particularly if you're thinking about overclocking you're gonna want a thousand watt PSU
08:29Number two and as you know, the new 40 series cars are based on Nvidia's Ada
08:33Lovelace architecture, but as well as being bigger faster and more power hungry
08:37We also get this new DLSS 3 technology, which is basically three things. You've got AI super resolution
08:43You've got the new frame generation and you've got reflex now super res is basically upscaling
08:49It's what DLSS is all about and it continues to get better over time as they train their AI now frame generation
08:55This is new and exclusive to the 40 series and it essentially adds multiple frames in between the real frames that your cards
09:02Generating so you get a higher FPS
09:04It's incredibly technical and possibly a little bit magical and my friends over at digital foundry have a proper in-depth analysis
09:10I'll link to below if you want to really nerd out. It's exciting stuff
09:14But the downside of frame gen is it increases latency and so to combat that DLSS 3 requires
09:21Nvidia reflex which helps manage some of that extra latency
09:24But it doesn't cut it out completely and in some cases with a high-end setup and wired peripherals
09:29It can still double your PC latency from something like 18 milliseconds to 35 which is acceptable for most of us
09:35But not for professional eSports players
09:37So it looks like it might be a case of turning it off in competitive online shooters
09:41But in games like cyberpunk or flight sim, I genuinely couldn't perceive any increased latency or visual impact
09:48But I definitely could notice the high refresh rate. So in games like this, it is really impressive
09:53There is one more problem with DLSS
09:55Particularly when you're gaming at 8k because usually there are four DLSS modes to choose from you've got your quality
10:01You've got your balanced performance and ultra performance and rule of thumb is
10:05Quality will be for 1080p balance of 1440 performance of 4k ultra performance for 8k
10:11Most games give you an auto option as well if you want to let it figure out for itself
10:14But see if you can spot the issue now
10:16This is an unreal engine 5 demo created by Nvidia called Lyra
10:20Which among other things lets me cycle through DLSS modes
10:23And I would say it's pretty hard to see any real impact and image quality for all the modes until you hit ultra performance
10:29Which then seems to add a noticeable amount of aliasing sharp lines start to shimmer and considering you want the absolute best
10:36Sharpest gaming experience at 8k having to use ultra performance DLSS to get those dreamy refresh rates
10:42Does take away a little bit from the experience because in cyberpunk at 8k dropping back to performance mode gives me just
10:4941 FPS whereas ultra performance gets me 62 a 50% optic simply based on the DLSS setting
10:57So what's the answer? Well, I would say if you're getting comfortably over 80 90 100 FPS in 8k
11:03Which is just insane to think about really then I would drop it back to performance DLSS
11:08Yes, you'll lose some of those frames, but because you're limited to 8k 60
11:11Anyway, it doesn't really matter. Of course, you do get reduced latency at high refresh as well
11:16But I would take that sharper crisper performance DLSS mode over ultra performance
11:21But then in games like cyberpunk, which does make a big difference to get you to that 60 FPS
11:25I would keep it at ultra
11:27Hopefully that makes sense
11:28But it is kind of another reason why while 8k is certainly playable for a gaming experience right now
11:33The 4090 is best suited to 4k at 144 Hertz or possibly even 1440p 360
11:40This is an incredible setup, but I wouldn't really recommend 8k is not there for most gamers yet
11:46Not until we get a display port 2 and we get 8k 120 options and really unless you have a 75 inch or bigger TV
11:52Or you get right up close to it. It can be hard to really see the difference
11:56So while this was a fun experiment, don't try this at home now as for the 4090 itself
12:01This is the real hero of the piece, but whether you should actually buy one. I'm not so sure
12:05I actually had a big chat with my buddy Marcus and PC centric the other day
12:09Who's also got a much more in-depth and detailed review of this on his channel right now, which I'll link to below
12:14But we both kind of agreed that yes, it's technically very impressive overkill for everyone really
12:20But we also don't know what the upcoming to 4080 cards are gonna be like
12:24One of which really should be called a 4070 then if you've got the proper 4070s and 60s coming early mid next year
12:30We still have to see what AMD come out with and of course the 3070 3080 3090 are still incredibly capable cards for everything
12:37Other than 8k gaming and best-case scenario this 4090 FE is around
12:43$1,600 which is significantly more than the 3090 launched for and that is
12:47RRP because there's already plenty of AIB cards for over two grand
12:51Of course Nvidia will be quick to tell you that for the performance
12:54You're getting actually it's pretty good value and compared to the 3090 TI that was two grand until they you know
13:00Half the price recently it's a steal
13:03But really that was just some tactical price
13:05Anchoring as they call it
13:07so until we know more about the
13:08Comparative performance with the 90 versus the 80s and what AMD comes out with I would recommend holding fire. But hey, I'm not judging if your name
13:15Is mr. Moneybags and you want bragging rights of the world's most powerful gaming PC and you maybe do want a game at 8k
13:22For some reason then yeah go nuts. It's an incredible graphics card
