00:001954, a Polish newsreel brings a report from the village of Siedliszcze in the Lubelskie Voivodeship.
00:18Oh, those sidewalks! Better than those in Marszałkowska Street.
00:23The whole village was building this improvement roof.
00:30The benefit was double. The Mogilanka River ceased to flow,
00:33and instead of 50 hectares of wetland, there are 50 hectares of meadows.
00:37And at the same time, the same water from Mogilanka supplies the swimming pool.
00:41Look for yourself, a pool that you can sit in, or rather, you can jump in.
00:46Still, a large city could envy it.
00:53But that's not all. Appetites grew as food.
00:56It was decided to build a sportsman's house in Siedliszcze.
00:59And so, after months of sacrificial work of all the inhabitants,
01:02the Siedliszcze experienced an unusual celebration.
01:07The lighthouse is already active.
01:14Sports equipment is being completed.
01:17The first village sportsman's house in Poland was built right here.
01:23Before the war, there was no medical care here.
01:26And here are today's hospital buildings, built by the inhabitants themselves,
01:30with the financial help of the state.
01:33Here, where the dental office is today, a few years ago,
01:36there was the only hospital room.
01:38There is even an operating room.
01:41This is Dr. Balasz, a wonderful man, a good spirit of this village,
01:45who encouraged the initiative of the community.
01:51Dr. Balasz is 33 years old.
01:53At the same time, he studied architecture with medicine.
01:56It was useful to him when he designed the projects of the local hospital,
01:59swimming pool, sportsman's house.
02:03In 1956, Dr. Balasz went to Kraków for specialization
02:07and works as a scientist in a large hospital.
02:10This is what the village hospital looked like in 1960.
02:16Only four years have passed since Dr. Balasz left.
02:40Dr. Balasz was a doctor.
02:43He studied medicine in the hospital.
02:46He was the head physician of the village hospital.
02:49He was the head physician of the village hospital.
02:52He was the head physician of the village hospital.
02:55He was the head physician of the village hospital.
02:58He was the head physician of the village hospital.
03:01He was the head physician of the village hospital.
03:04He was the head physician of the village hospital.
03:08The village hospital
03:22We give the floor to the residents of the village hospital,
03:24the leaders of the National Council.
03:26Dr. Balasz was such a person that he would catch everyone on the street,
03:29who he met, and go to work.
03:32Well, everyone was ashamed to refuse to go to Dr. Balasz.
03:36And he followed them and went.
03:38He was a teacher.
03:39During Balasz's time, he was the secretary of the municipality.
03:41He returned to the local institutions,
03:42he returned to school,
03:43to the municipal cooperative,
03:45to the municipality.
03:47Every institution, all the employees helped Dr. Balasz.
03:50Dr. Balasz personally took an active part in this.
03:53He was not ashamed of his own work.
03:55Sometimes everyone would go away,
03:57and Dr. Balasz would work alone with the rest of the group of people.
04:02The cashier of the municipal cooperative.
04:21I remember how Dr. Balasz would come from Chelm or Lublin,
04:24loaded with various locks, locks,
04:26in a bag, in pockets,
04:28and he was always happy to get these locks,
04:30because it was difficult to get them on the market at the time.
04:34He had interesting ideas.
04:36He often scolded us for trying too hard
04:40so that we wouldn't have enough money for the funds.
04:42No work was planned as such.
04:44He had to get the funds,
04:46and the municipal board of the LZS
04:51forced him to try to get loans from so-called transfers,
04:54from other towns,
04:55where nothing was done,
04:57where there were local initiatives,
04:59and he received these loans at the headquarters.
05:03Of course, these things were in a modest range.
05:06There was even a period of time when Dr. Balasz
05:08used his own funds to pay bills,
05:10and these bills amounted to over 10,000 zlotys.
05:12He set up a hospital,
05:15built a swimming pool,
05:17a cultural house,
05:19set up a park at the headquarters,
05:21planted a forest,
05:23a sports field,
05:25he even had to set up a pomegranate factory
05:28and he made certain efforts.
05:32Well, his departure was an obstacle.
05:34And this is the only answer to the question
05:37what happened to Dr. Balasz's earnings.
05:40So it's hard for me to tell you what's going on here.
05:44What was neglected?
05:46When it comes to the fact that the swimming pool was neglected,
05:48it's indisputable.
05:50If there was a state employee who was monitoring these matters,
05:53then these matters would look completely different.
05:56If it was a social matter,
05:58then it's hard to say who is its owner
06:01and who is supposed to take care of it.
06:07The owner was neglected.
06:09Dr. Balasz was neglected.
06:12And yet there were people who,
06:14a few years ago, built a sportsman's house with their own hands,
06:17brought a brick to the swimming pool,
06:19dug ditches.
06:21Then they dismantled the house
06:23and pulled the tiles out of the pool.
06:25They stayed.
06:26They remember the past years
06:28when the neighborhood was written by the press,
06:30the radio was on.
06:31They live.
06:32They elect their local authorities,
06:34party committees and ZMS secretaries.
06:36They patiently wait for the new Dr. Balasz.
