00:00Hi, welcome back to my channel, in this video, I will explain the ending of The Crown season
00:045, so, let's begin.
00:07Spoilers for the season 5 ending follow.
00:10The final episode of The Crown season 5, Decommissioned, begins with Dodi Fayyad, Khalid Abdallah,
00:16trying to convince his father Muhammad Al-Fayyad, Salim Da, to support him in buying a home
00:20in Malibu, Los Angeles.
00:23He wants to move in with his girlfriend Kelly Fisher, Erin Richards, and plans to bring
00:27her to London to meet him.
00:29Their actual meeting doesn't go to plan, as Muhammad lectures Dodi on his future and
00:33is unimpressed with his plans to buy a home in Los Angeles.
00:37The conversation sets up a later one between Princess Diana, Elizabeth Debicki, and Al-Fayyad
00:42after they attend the ballet.
00:44Diana confesses she's been feeling very sad recently and plans to leave the country while
00:48Prince Charles, Dominic West, plans a big party with Camilla Parker Bowles, Olivia Williams.
00:55She was denied security clearance to take Prince Harry and Prince William to the US,
00:59but Al-Fayyad suggests instead that they join them in St. Tropez.
01:03Elsewhere, questions over the future of the monarchy are being brought into question thanks
01:08to a live television debate over whether it should still exist.
01:12Prince Charles is particularly troubled by the conclusions and brings it up at the Queen's,
01:16Imelda Staunton, birthday.
01:18The celebration brings all of her family together, including Princess Margaret, Leslie Manville,
01:24and Prince Philip, Jonathan Price, to discuss the issue.
01:28When it is decided that Prince Charles will be the royal representative when Hong Kong
01:31leaves British rule, he sees another opportunity to speak to the new prime minister about his
01:36thoughts.
01:37Tony Blair, Bertie Carville, has been elected in a landslide election, beating the existing
01:42John Major, John Major, who steps down in this episode.
01:47The Queen has an unsuccessful first meeting with him where he refuses to reverse the decision
01:51to decommission the Royal Yacht Britannia.
01:53Meanwhile, Prince Charles has much more success when they have a meeting in Hong Kong.
01:57The Prince of Wales shares his hopes for modernizing the monarchy as well as his wish to be allowed
02:02to marry Camilla in the future.
02:04Blair seems to take it all very well, telling his wife Sherry Blair, Lydia Leonard, on the
02:09plane home how surprising and intelligent he found the future king to be.
02:13News gets back to the Queen about Prince Charles' meeting with the prime minister, leading them
02:17to have a very frank conversation.
02:20She accuses her son of continuing to conduct his affair with Camilla in the public eye,
02:24while Prince Charles argues he should be allowed to marry the woman he loves.
02:28She also chastises him for holding private meetings with Blair, as that's her role as
02:32the sovereign.
02:34The pair clash about the future of the monarchy and where they stand on it.
02:38The season ends with Princess Diana preparing for her holiday to St. Tropez as we get our
02:42first glimpse of Alfaed's yacht, while Doty proposes to Fisher.
02:47In contrast, the Queen is shown walking through the halls of the Royal Yacht Britannia as
02:51she prepares to say, goodbye, to it.
02:54The final shots mirror the first episode which also largely took place on Britannia.
02:59Why is Princess Diana's St. Tropez holiday significant?
03:03The Crown season 5 ends with Princess Diana preparing to take her sons Prince William
03:07and Prince Harry on a holiday to St. Tropez, organized by Alfaed.
03:12In the summer of 1997, Diana did take her children with her to his villa and it was
03:17here that she grew closer to Doty.
03:20She stayed in the villa several times during the summer.
03:23In late August of that year, Diana went on holiday with the Fayad family again as they
03:27went on a cruise on Doty's luxury yacht in the Mediterranean.
03:31They sailed from the south of France to Sardinia before flying to Paris.
03:36The Princess of Wales and Doty, and their chauffeur Henri Paul, were killed in a car
03:40crash after leaving the Ritz Hotel in Paris on August 31, 1997.
03:46This is likely to be one of the events the Crown covers in its upcoming sixth and final
03:50season.
03:51What was the relationship between Tony Blair and the Royal Family?
03:55The season finale shows new Prime Minister Tony Blair and Prince Charles having had a
03:59private meeting about reforming the monarchy.
04:02Blair has since denied this meeting ever took place, and his spokesman said in a statement
04:06to the Daily Telegraph, opens a new tab, it should come as no surprise that this is
04:10complete and utter rubbish.
04:13The real relationship between the two men was unknown.
04:17Prince Charles did write memos to Prime Ministers during their time in office, including several
04:21to Blair.
04:22These were called the Black Spider memos and were released in 2015 under a Freedom of Information
04:27request.
04:28However, the Prince of Wales wrote these in a private capacity and they covered subjects
04:33like planning, global warming, and farming, rather than the future of the monarchy.
04:38As for the Queen's relationship with Blair, not much is known.
04:42The former Prime Minister has spoken about their first meeting in the past.
04:46She was above it, above politics, he told Today host Savannah Guthrie, per People, opens
04:51a new tab.
04:52When I was appointed Prime Minister, I remember she said to me, her first words to me, my
04:57first Prime Minister was Winston, Churchill and that was before you were born.
05:02So she had this extraordinary grip on history.
05:05That's all for now folks.
05:07I would appreciate it if you could give the video a thumbs up and subscribe to the channel
05:11so you can see more content like this every day.
05:13Take care bye.
