00:00What's up guys, today we're going to be talking about the Pixel phones
00:04A lot of people wanted me to discuss my thoughts about the Pixel phones in this mid 2024
00:12So we got the Pixel 8 Pro, the newest one, and we're going to be focusing on the flagship phones right now
00:18So Pixel 7 Pro and then the Pixel 6 Pro
00:21So I want to go ahead and actually talk about software updates
00:26Because that's quite a bit of a question that I actually get
00:29I'm pulling this straight from Google's website here
00:32So these phones do have a pretty good software lifespan
00:37And you can see the Pixel 8 Pro here
00:41It will be, and this is for the Pixel 8 too, it will be supported until 2030
00:46So it will actually get 7 years of software updates
00:50Which is absolutely insane, so that's really nice
00:54If you go ahead and look at the Pixel 7 series
00:59That will tell you that the Pixel 7 Pro will be supported for Android version 2025
01:07And then it'll get security patches up to October 2027
01:12And then you can see the Pixel 6 Pro here
01:15It actually got its last major OS update
01:18And that was the Android 14 update
01:20And it's currently getting security patches
01:22And it'll get security patches up to 2026
01:26So these phones are still getting updates
01:30Especially if you buy the Pixel 8 Pro
01:32It's going to be getting updates for a very long time
01:35So that's one of the really good things about buying a Pixel 8 Pro
01:40And I think Pixel and Samsung is doing the 7 years major OS updates
01:46And hopefully other manufacturers start to follow suit as well too
01:50Alright so I do want to talk about the price of these phones
01:53I always put these Pixel phones in my top 5 list and stuff like that
01:59But you can see if you do get a Pixel 8 Pro
02:02And I'm sure they have trading programs and stuff like that
02:05But for right now it's $800
02:07And this is $800 brand new
02:09So this is actually on the cheaper side when it comes to flagships
02:15So I think the Pixel 8 Pro is definitely cheaper than the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the S24 Ultra
02:23Those are $1000 plus phones
02:25So this is a very good phone for relatively cheap
02:28And it actually does one thing
02:30Or you could probably say two things
02:32But one thing better than the S24 and the 15 Pro Max
02:37Is that all of these phones I still think take better pictures than the S24 and the 15 Pro Max
02:43I just prefer the Pixel shots and the image processing
02:47I know it sounds crazy but these do take some of the best stills
02:50Now when we talk about the overall camera system as far as video and stuff like that
02:55Then yeah you could make your case for iPhone and Galaxy
02:58But I'm a huge fan so I always say this
03:01For this type of price like the Pixel 6 Pro
03:04You can find it for around $200
03:06And if you go on Ebay you can see $258
03:09If you go on Ebay you can find it cheaper
03:10The Pixel 7 Pro is trending for about $378
03:14And again I've seen this cheaper
03:16The prices kind of fluctuate and go up and down
03:18So just cross check like Amazon, Ebay, Swappo, stuff like that
03:22But yeah so definitely guys if you're looking for a really good phone that takes photos
03:29The Pixel Balls are definitely phones that you need to be taking a look at
03:32Now let's talk about the hardware here with these phones
03:37So you can see they haven't really changed from the 6 Pro to the 8 Pro here
03:41Google has made very minor changes here
03:45But the kind of iconic design language here is actually these camera bars here
03:50That you can see Google has put this camera bar here
03:54And it really makes it a Pixel phone
03:57I think because when you take this phone out
03:59You know it's a Pixel because of the camera bar
04:01And you can see they've kind of made very minor changes here
04:05You can see with the 6 Pro's camera bar right there
04:08And then you can see it has a cutout now on the 8 Pro
04:11And then the cutout is separate on the 7 Pro
04:14But largely they look pretty much identical
04:17They're all IP68 dust and water resistant
04:20And honestly they're all very easy to hold as well too
04:23They're not as sharp as something like the S24 you guys can see
04:27Very sharp phone
04:29These are kind of easier to hold even though they're also bigger phones as well too
04:33So hardware wise I really love the designs
04:36I like how unique they look
04:39Alright so let's talk about the displays here
04:42So not too much has changed with the displays
04:45They're very good displays on all of these phones
04:48As you can see the Pixel 6 Pro with the lowest max brightness
04:51And the Pixel 7 Pro with the second
04:54And then the Pixel 8 Pro has the highest max brightness
04:57So you can kind of see that I got them all at max brightness
05:00But as far as the actual display quality
05:03They're all 1440p displays, they're all 120hz
05:06They're all HDR 10 plus
05:09And they all essentially look the same color wise
05:12For the most part the biggest difference here is going to be the max brightness
05:16Now Google has pretty much gotten away from the curved design
05:19That you see on the Pixel 7 Pro and the 6 Pro
05:23And I think it's largely because a lot of people have been complaining about it
05:26Samsung has did it as well too
05:29With the accidental touches people claim
05:32And then also it's harder to apply the screen protectors as well too
05:35And again I don't use screen protectors personally
05:38I know some people think I'm crazy
05:41But I definitely get that
05:44But the flat screen it looks great but I am a big fan of the curved screens as well too
05:47But as you guys can see
05:50They all look really really good still
05:53Even the Pixel 6 Pro so I have no issues with display quality
05:56It's very minimal these past generations
05:59Alright so I do want to talk about
06:02The overall software experience
06:05On a Pixel phone essentially it's going to be very Google like experience
06:08So basically this is what
06:11They want Android to look like
06:14This is what Google wants Android to look like
06:17It's very clean, it's very bare bones
06:20It's got a lot of Google stuff in it right
06:24Essentially this is just a bunch of Google stuff
06:27Google Apps, Google Search
06:30So if you're really deep into the Google ecosystem
06:33Then you'll really love the Android operating system
06:36And again like I said very clean
06:39Now the one I think bonus to Pixel phones is that
06:42Say for instance the Pixel 7 Pro here
06:45It's running Android 15 so you're the first to get the beta software
06:48When the next version of Android comes out
06:51So when Android 16 comes out
06:54You'll be the first to get it
06:57And test it out, whatever new features
07:00So I always thought that was cool
07:03That's definitely a bonus to owning a Pixel phone
07:06Usually the other bigger flagship brands
07:09Usually get the update a little bit later
07:12But you're the first to try out the software
07:15So I think that's pretty cool as well too
07:18So this is the Google Tensor chip on the 6 Pro
07:21And then you can see the progression here
07:24Now it's not like a huge progression here
07:27For the most part as far as looking at the scores and stuff like that
07:30But these phones are still pretty fast
07:33And these Pixel phones do get kind of a
07:36You know kind of a flack for not being necessarily gaming phones
07:39Which I think these phones do a pretty good job at gaming
07:42But when it comes to gaming performance
07:46These phones do a pretty decent job
07:49Like I said Google has fixed a lot of the
07:52Kind of the overheating
07:55I don't even want to say overheating
07:58But these phones like the 7 Pro and the 6 Pro
08:01Do kind of get a little bit warm
08:04But with the 6 Pro just like filming with it
08:07And the 7 Pro if it's hot outdoors
08:10I would just have problems with the camera
08:14Like recording because I use these
08:17The Pixel phones to record all of my YouTube shorts
08:20So I'm using the 8 Pro now
08:23But I was using the 7 Pro and definitely if I'm outdoors
08:26Like recording I might run into some issues
08:29But it's pretty much fixed now
08:32I've never had any problems like indoors
08:35And when it comes to gaming these phones still do a pretty good job
08:38Like I said it's probably not
08:42You can get better settings on older Galaxy phones
08:45You can play HDR Extreme
08:48A lot of the Galaxy phones you can play PUBG at 90 frames
08:51But you can see this one
08:54Not the best settings here
08:57Smooth Extreme but there's no HDR Extreme
09:00But it still does a pretty decent job
09:03And I think the 7 Pro should be able to do it
09:06HDR Extreme yeah it does
09:09There's no 90 frames on these Pixel devices
09:12They're not as well optimized as the Snapdragon phones
09:15I would say if you're a gamer on a budget
09:18You might want to go with an older Samsung flagship
09:21Or something like that
09:24I think it's pretty much the same thing for the 8 Pro
09:27There's no 90 frames either
09:30So these phones are going to do a decent job
09:33For gaming for the most part
09:37And the 7 Pro does a pretty good job
09:40But like I said they're just not as well optimized
09:43So if you're gaming I would say
09:46If you're a casual gamer you just play a couple matches here and there
09:49These phones are perfectly fine
09:52Now as far as the cameras
09:55I believe if you watch the blind smartphone tests
09:58Like MKBHD
10:01The Pixel phones would always be high up there
10:05So yeah it's no shocker
10:08That Google makes some of the best
10:11Camera phones you can take photos with
10:14Now if we're comparing the 6 Pro to the 7 and 8 Pro
10:17I'm going to be honest there are improvements
10:20But it's not like a crazy improvement
10:23Where's my camera?
10:26It's not like a crazy crazy improvement
10:29So pictures even on the 7 Pro and 6 Pro
10:32Look really really really good
10:35So I'm going to take a picture of this
10:38Thing here just to show you guys
10:41And we'll do 2x
10:44And it's very very similar
10:47In terms of the quality
10:50And I think the biggest area where they really have improved
10:53Is actually the video
10:56Video has gotten much better throughout time
11:02But like I said the stills
11:05Pretty much still look the same to me at least
11:08For the most part which is a good thing
11:14So if we just compare these stills
11:17And let's see
11:20They still pretty much look similar
11:23And night time photography is really good on these phones as well too
11:26It's not really that big of a difference
11:29That's just one thing that I noticed
11:32You're not going to really see that big of a difference
11:35In terms of the quality of these images
11:38Now I think Google has really stepped it up
11:41With the video on the Pixel 8 Pro
11:44It's a lot better
11:47But yeah the still photography is really good on all of these phones still
11:50So as I said I'm always impressed with more so the Pixel 6 Pro
11:53For being able to still give us these really really high quality photos
11:57For relatively cheap
12:00But the sensors on here
12:03Google really is focused on a lot of the software
12:06With the magic eraser
12:09And all the software and AI stuff
12:12So just in conclusion
12:15The video quality on these phones
12:18And the photo quality is pretty good guys
12:21These are really really good cameras
12:24The only thing I don't really do that a lot of people like
12:27That these Samsung phones do
12:30Is the really good zoom quality shots
12:33So I think Google might end up introducing that in the future
12:36But for right now
12:39The image processing, how skin tones come out
12:42I just really love everything about the photos
