00:00Alright guys, I've been getting a ton of questions about the Galaxy S23 FE.
00:06This is a very popular phone that a lot of people are interested in now.
00:11The price has come down a lot since the last, I think it was three or four months we looked
00:14at this phone.
00:15And it's $324, it was somewhere around $380 to $360.
00:20And this is for an excellent version like the one I have here, I'll have that link down
00:24below for you guys.
00:26But this can be now a confusing buy for a lot of people.
00:29Again I haven't made the comparison because I haven't picked up my S23.
00:35Again I have to buy another one.
00:36But yeah, you can see the S23, I think it should be around the same price point.
00:44That's new.
00:45So the S23, yeah around $350.
00:49So the S23 FE is now a little bit cheaper now.
00:53So they're roughly around the same price so a lot of people are a little bit confused
00:57on which one.
00:58They have very minor differences but I'll just go over them and then you can kind of
01:03make your conclusion based on that.
01:05Alright so let's look at the hardware.
01:07It's a glass and metal device.
01:09The standard S23 has a matte finish.
01:12This one has a glossy finish so you will pick up quite a bit of little smudges there.
01:16But it is a fully premium device here.
01:19Feels really good in the hand.
01:20We got those curves on the edge and it feels good.
01:25It's kind of a little bit of a sharp phone though a little bit.
01:29But yeah, so hardware looks great.
01:31You got the same pretty much camera setup as well too.
01:35And everything looks great, it looks premium on the back, we'll get to the front.
01:40But you do also have IP68 dust and water resistant on here as well so if you drop it in a pool
01:46or something like that you will be fine.
01:48But everything is very well built, the buttons, all that good stuff.
01:52Alright so the display here.
01:54So that's what I was talking about.
01:56It doesn't look as premium on the front and especially not compared to the S23.
02:02The S23 has a much better screen to body ratio as well.
02:06This one, it looks decent but it's an 83.2.
02:09The S23 has a much better screen to body ratio.
02:12You really notice it down here as well.
02:15It does make it look a little bit cheaper.
02:17But as far as screen quality goes, you're not really missing out on anything.
02:21This also has a bigger display at 6.4 inches.
02:25A standard S23 would have a 6.1 inch display so it is a little bit bigger for people who
02:30watch a lot of content on their phones.
02:32It's a dynamic AMOLED 120Hz display.
02:35This also has 1450 nits peak brightness as well too.
02:40It's 1080p 403 for the PPI so it's still a pretty good display.
02:45It's very colorful.
02:46I really don't have any issues with a completely flat panel.
02:49I think the biggest thing between this display that somebody would notice between this one
02:54and the S23 is the display size.
02:57If you want a smaller phone that's a little bit more compact, you would get the S23.
03:02If you want a bigger phone that you watch a lot of media, you want something a little
03:07bit bigger, because this is not really a big, big phone, but it's fine for watching videos
03:13and stuff like that.
03:14It doesn't feel super small.
03:16Overall, for the display, not really a lot of compromises there, and also guys, the display
03:24is brighter on the S23.
03:26This one has, it's pretty decent outdoors, but the S23 has a 1750 nits peak brightness,
03:33so that means in direct sunlight, this one would not be as good as the S23, so if you're
03:39outdoors a lot, you need to consider that as well.
03:42The thing that everybody hated about this phone when it first came out was that Samsung
03:46put the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor in here, and a lot of people didn't like that, including
03:53myself.
03:54This one is running Android 14 with the One UI 6.1 on here as well, too.
03:59You can see we got the 8 gigabyte of RAM model on here, and performance-wise, the 8 Gen 1
04:07is still a good processor, but the processor on the standard S23 is definitely better.
04:14The 8 Gen 2 is not as power-hungry as well, too, which is something that I noticed between
04:20using these two devices.
04:23The casual user won't really notice a performance problem because the S23 FE is still pretty
04:30fast.
04:31The 8 Gen 1 does a pretty good job.
04:34This phone, I noticed since it got Android One UI 6.1, it does sometimes stutter a little
04:40bit more than I remember it doing, so it might need just a couple updates, and it's usually
04:47animation-wise, but as you guys can see, it's pretty fast when we're just swiping around
04:54and doing stuff.
04:56We don't really have an issue with this phone set, but that is something I did notice picking
05:02this phone back up is that it does tend to just sometimes have a little animation stutter,
05:09but it looks like that's more of a software thing.
05:14When you do go into settings, the good thing about this phone and that I was really happy
05:19about was that you have the advanced intelligence on here, so you have all of the Galaxy AI
05:25features on here, I think, except one, and that is the hold to slow-mo, but everything
05:30else is on here that you guys would really like to use, so you're not missing out on
05:35that.
05:36Yeah, this phone launched for Android 13, so it has quite a few more updates to go as
05:41well too.
05:42Yeah, so as far as the software and speed-wise, the phone is still pretty fast.
05:47Now, the one thing I don't like about this phone compared to the S23 is the gaming experience,
05:53because this phone, it is going to heat up a little bit more, but it's not as optimized
05:57either.
05:59Basically, you have smooth, extreme, and that's it.
06:02The S23, the standard version, can play this at much higher frame rates, so that's something
06:07that I noticed.
06:09I thought it would take some time for this to get optimized, which it still can, but
06:16so far it's not optimized yet.
06:20That's kind of like a trade-off that you would have to do, right?
06:23The S23 is smaller, which I know a lot of people don't like, but it does have better
06:27performance, and yeah, so I would take that into consideration, but the S23 FE, as far
06:35as a casual gamer or just a casual user, it's perfectly fine.
06:41The phone is perfectly fine, you know, if you don't have to play at super high frame
06:44rates and all that.
06:46You can easily come in here and play PUBG, Call of Duty Mobile, and pretty much whatever
06:51else on your phone and not really have to worry about it.
06:54We got dual speakers on here as well, too.
07:23Pretty good speakers on here, pretty good bass quality, get pretty loud.
07:26The top speaker does a very good job as well, too.
07:29We've got our optical fingerprint scanner on here as well, which works perfectly fine,
07:35and this is also another minor thing.
07:37The standard S23 has the ultrasonic, so basically you can kind of like lightly tap the ultrasonic
07:45and it'll register.
07:46With the optical ones, you just kind of, you know, apply a little bit of pressure, but
07:50again, very small thing.
07:53Now Samsung, I don't think really cut corners with the S23 FE with the cameras too much
07:59at all.
08:00So, it's got a 50 megapixel standard and 8 megapixel telephoto with 3x optical, then
08:05a 12 megapixel ultrawide.
08:07It can shoot an 8K 24 with a 10 megapixel selfie that shoots in 4K 60.
08:13It's pretty much identical to the S23, and as far as the camera specs go, the S23 has
08:19a 10 megapixel telephoto.
08:22But photos look really good on the S23.
08:25I'm always really impressed coming back to this device, and image quality looks great.
08:32Very crispy shots.
08:33It does a decent job in low light.
08:36Also video looks good as well, too, on here.
08:39So I don't really have any real complaints about the S23 FE.
08:45There might be a difference in the telephoto quality.
08:48The S23 might have better telephoto, but besides that, just looking at the stills and
08:53stuff like that, I think it looks perfectly fine.
08:57I think it looks pretty good.
09:00Battery life is pretty decent.
09:01Since we started the video, we were at 100 and we're at 96, and remember I'm at max brightness
09:06as well, too.
09:08And yeah, so battery life, I've never considered this phone to be a phone with bad battery
09:12life.
09:13I know a lot of people were mentioning that in the comments.
09:17But I don't think this phone has bad battery life at all, especially for me.
09:21And yeah, it's pretty much a day, a full day phone for sure, in my opinion.
09:26So it does have a 4500 milliamp hour battery, and then you also do have the 25 watt charging
09:34on here, and then you also have wireless and reverse wireless charging on board.
09:40So battery life, I think it's pretty good.
09:42It's pretty decent.
09:43I don't think it's bad at all.
09:45Alright, so basically, should you pick this up over the S23?
09:50I think that it really depends, but me personally, I would probably go with the standard S23
09:57just for the more premium feel and look, and for the newer processor.
10:01Now it really comes down to the screen size on here as well, too.
10:07Some people just want a bigger screen at 6.4 inches, I definitely can understand that.
10:13And then, you know, it just really depends.
10:16Other than that, if the screen doesn't bother you on the S23, I would just pick that up,
10:21honestly, because I think you're just getting a more well-polished device here.
10:26For me to pick this up over the S23, it would have to come down in price to like maybe $270.
10:33I think if it comes down to $270 or $280 or something like that, then it would make more
10:39sense.
10:40But if they're almost around the same price point, then I think the S23 FE is fine, but
10:46like I said, I would pick up the standard S23.
10:50So be sure to let me know what you guys think, and I'll catch you guys in the next one.
