00:00Alright guys, today we got the iPhone 14 Pro versus the S23.
00:05This is a pretty good comparison, guys, and if you're choosing, honestly, between the
00:09S23 and the standard iPhone 14, the S23 is so much better, honestly, so I would just
00:15go with that automatically.
00:17But if you're choosing between the Pro, it's kind of close, right, because they both have
00:21a telephoto lens, they both have high refresh rate, so we'll get into it and let's go ahead
00:26and get started here.
00:27So I want to talk about the design this year, so what do you guys think about the designs
00:32here?
00:33Which design do you like better?
00:35These are two very clean and very nice looking phones here.
00:38As far as the size difference, the iPhone definitely is a little bit heavier and it's
00:44also a little bit taller as well.
00:48You can see the camera bump really intrudes out on the iPhone as well too.
00:53It has more of a, the S23 is a little bit more flat, where the iPhone's sort of, like
00:59you know, you know what I mean?
01:02But two very nice designs here.
01:05They both have a matte finish, IP68 dust and water resistant.
01:08The S23 is definitely way more comfortable in my opinion, so the S23 just fits better
01:14in the palm since it's not as boxy and sharp as the iPhone, so it just feels better in
01:20the hand, like when you're holding it, it just feels a lot better.
01:23The iPhone, even though this is a, you know, smaller phone, it's still, you know, fairly
01:28comfortable but again, the sharp edges, it just, this one just feels better in my opinion.
01:33Alright, so let's talk about the display.
01:36So, the iPhone does have the Super Retina XDR OLED display, it's 120Hz HDR10, it gets
01:43up to 2000 nits peak brightness, it's a 6.1 inch display with 1179 by 2556 resolution
01:50and it's 460 for the PPI.
01:54The S23 does have the Dynamic AMOLED display, it's HDR10+, it gets up to a max 1750 nits
02:02peak brightness, it's also a 6.1 inch display, so pretty much the same size display.
02:07It's 1080p 425 for the PPI, so it's pretty interesting.
02:11I do prefer the Galaxy S23's display here for a few reasons, so the punch hole is just
02:17less intrusive when you're playing games or, you know, you're watching content, it
02:22just looks better in my opinion, it's just not in the way.
02:25Apple does have some software functionality with the Dynamic Island, you're able to, it's
02:30really like a multitasking thing, basically be able to switch through applications and
02:34stuff like that.
02:35Also, the screen to body ratio is noticeably better on the S23, the bezels aren't as thick.
02:44I believe the iPhone has a, I believe it's 86.8% screen to body ratio, the S23 has a 87%,
02:54so I don't know if you guys can tell but it just overall looks a little bit, I don't know,
02:58it's very minor.
02:59But the iPhone does have a brighter display as well in direct sunlight, it is slightly
03:04brighter but these are two very bright phones outdoors so it's not like a massive difference.
03:09Like I said, the big thing here is the Dynamic Island versus the punch hole.
03:14Like I said, I personally just prefer the less intrusive, you know, punch hole but like
03:19I said, you might like the Dynamic Island, the functionality, you can see basically,
03:26so when you're in like another application, it'll pop up and it kind of has like a software
03:31thing to it.
03:33But other than that, like I said, I really like the display, they're both flat displays
03:37as well too and again, they're both the same size as well.
03:40So very beautiful panels here, honestly, color wise, you'll just be really happy with the
03:46screens on both these phones.
03:48Now when it comes to the specs of these two phones, with the iPhone, we are running the
03:52Apple A16 chip, 128 gigs of internal storage on the base model and then we have 6 gigs
03:58of RAM.
03:59The S23 is running the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and then we also have 128 gigs and
04:058 gigs of RAM on the base model.
04:08So we are running Android 13, One UI 5.1 and you guys can see the score differences here.
04:14You can see iPhone, slightly better score here and how that basically translates when
04:20you're using the phone is pretty much just non-existent.
04:24When it comes to the general speed and animations, both these phones are pretty fast.
04:30You can see Samsung has done a pretty good job with One UI animations.
04:34They feel extremely smooth this year and you guys can just see how fluid and fast both
04:40of these devices are here.
04:45So they're pretty much on par, I don't think anyone will really notice too much of a difference
04:50honestly and the S23 is, to me, just a little bit a hair faster than the iPhone when launching
04:56applications to me a little bit.
04:59But like I said, other than that, not really a big deal.
05:01Let's go ahead and try something heavier like PUBG here.
05:05The gaming experience is much better this year because the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 on the
05:09S23, it does not get as hot as last year.
05:14The iPhone also, it can heat up a little bit when playing games for a long period of time.
05:19These smaller phones, they get a little bit warm but surprisingly the S23 is pretty efficient
05:24when it comes to gaming for a smaller device here.
05:31So they both do a fantastic job with gaming performance and the only thing with some,
05:39only thing, and it's really with PUBG, is that they were super late to update this game
05:43to the 90 frames option.
05:46It's only the older Samsung ones but they just haven't optimized it yet.
05:50But like I said, the gaming experience is going to be extremely smooth.
05:53You can play anything you want in the Play Store or App Store with these two phones.
05:58I think this one should have the 90 frames option.
06:01Yeah, this one has the 90 frames option.
06:05The S23 is capable of doing it, they just, they don't update and it's weird because the
06:13older Samsung phones have the 90 frames.
06:17But regardless, you're going to get a very smooth experience guys when you are gaming.
06:24And like I said, if you notice like the dynamic island, that's what I was talking about with
06:28like gaming and watching TV, you guys can see like that difference when you're gaming.
06:35Sort of cuts into the screen.
06:36Like I said, it's not too bad but you know, it is a difference there.
06:41Especially when you're working with these smaller displays.
06:44Let's check out these speakers, max volume.
06:46We'll start with the iPhone.
07:24Yeah, iPhone is definitely a little bit louder.
07:27Bass hits harder.
07:35Yeah, the S23 is close but it's just not as loud.
07:41Yeah, I definitely give it to the iPhone there.
07:45Definitely louder speakers there.
07:46It's kind of close but I definitely think that's the iPhone.
07:50Let's go ahead and talk about the biometrics.
07:52So this is something that I've always liked about Android devices is to be able to give
07:56you two options to get into your phone.
07:58So with the S23, we have our in-display fingerprint sensor and we also have face unlock so we
08:04can unlock the phone with two methods.
08:06As of, you know, with the iPhone, we have the face ID and that's about it.
08:11Like I said, I always wanted to see Apple bring Touch ID back.
08:17You know, put it in the power button under the display fingerprint sensor.
08:20I can't talk.
08:23Fingerprint sensor.
08:24It would be nice to have.
08:25Both these phones have NFC.
08:27They both have wireless charging.
08:29And like I said, the S23, a lot of people sleep on some of the features with Samsung
08:34phones.
08:35The Samsung desktop support and also secure folders is something that I really love.
08:41And yeah, it's just reverse wireless charging is also another feature as well too that you'll
08:47really like.
08:48Alright, so let's go ahead and talk about the cameras this year.
08:51So the iPhone 14 does have a 48 megapixel standard, a 12 megapixel telephoto lens that
08:57does 3x optical zoom, and then you also have another 12 megapixel ultrawide that shoots
09:02in 4K60 and a 12 megapixel selfie cam that shoots in 4K30 or 4K60, sorry.
09:10And with the S23, we have a 50 megapixel standard camera on here, a 10 megapixel telephoto.
09:19This one also does 3x optical zoom.
09:21And then we also have a 12 megapixel ultrawide.
09:24This one can shoot in 8K30, which is pretty impressive.
09:27And then a 12 megapixel selfie cam that shoots in 4K60.
09:31So check out these side-by-side stills and let me know what you guys thought.
10:40Here's a video on the S23.
10:420.6, 3x.
10:58Let me know what you guys think.
11:02Alright guys, here's the video on the iPhone.
11:04Here's our 2x.
11:06We also have a 3x.
11:08And then we also have our 0.5x as well.
11:19This is going to surprise a lot of you guys, but this year the S23's battery life is pretty
11:25much on par with the iPhone's, and I would say, if not better than the iPhone's this
11:30year.
11:31It feels like I charge the iPhone more than I do the S23.
11:36It's just something that I noticed, and again, it comes down to how you use the phone, but
11:42I'm telling you, the battery life is pretty good on this phone this year.
11:46So the S23 has a 3900mAh battery with 25-watt charging, wireless, and reverse wireless charging.
11:53The iPhone does have a 3200mAh battery, and then you also have 15-watt wireless charging,
12:00and you have the MagSafe capability on here as well, and then you have wireless charging
12:04as well too.
12:05I was just really impressed with both these phones.
12:08I think the battery life is great.
12:09They both get you through a day of use, but last year, the S22, it wasn't that great,
12:15but this year, it's so much better.
12:17So I feel like if you were avoiding the smaller Galaxy phones because of battery life, this
12:23year the battery life is actually pretty good.
12:26So be sure to let me know what do you guys think, and I'll catch you guys in the next one.
