00:00So guys, today we got the Galaxy S24 Plus
00:02versus the S24 Plus here.
00:05And let's go ahead and take a look at these two phones here.
00:09Is this worth the upgrade?
00:11I'm really curious to see what you guys think
00:13about the upgrade here.
00:15So, the S24 Plus is typically going for around 700
00:20to around 650 in the used refurbished marketplace.
00:23And you can find an S22 Plus for actually around the 300
00:28to even lower than 300 if it's locked or unlocked.
00:32So, it's a pretty affordable older flagship to buy.
00:35All right, so let's go ahead
00:36and talk about the hardware here.
00:38So, we do have a slightly different design here.
00:42You can see they got rid of the cutout.
00:44That's basically the big difference here.
00:47They're both IP68 dust and water resistant.
00:49They both have that matte finish.
00:51And they both pretty much feel the same in the hand.
00:54The big difference here is actually gonna be the size
00:56since we do have a display upgrade.
00:58It is gonna be a bigger phone here for sure.
01:02Not by much, but it is noticeable.
01:07But besides that, overall,
01:08just some minor design changes here
01:11as far as it looking a little bit more flat
01:13on the sides here.
01:15But that is pretty much it for the hardware.
01:18So, let's talk about the display.
01:19So, we do have now a 6.7 inch display on the S24 Plus.
01:24And it is a 1440p display as well, too.
01:28It is LTPO AMOLED, 120 hertz, HDR10 Plus.
01:31And then it does have 2,600 nits peak brightness,
01:34513 for the PPI.
01:37We have a slightly smaller display on the S22 Plus.
01:40It is the Dynamic AMOLED, 120 hertz, HDR10 Plus,
01:441,750 nits peak brightness.
01:46And this one is a 1080p panel.
01:48And it's 393 for the PPI.
01:51So, the main upgrades here
01:52is that the max brightness is higher on the S24.
01:55So, in direct sunlight, it's easier to see.
01:58And then also, we do have, again, a bigger display,
02:01which, again, that may or may not be an actual upgrade.
02:04But we do have full 1440p resolution on the Plus model now,
02:08which is actually something that I really like.
02:10I always dislike them, you know,
02:13giving the Ultra the 1440p and not the Plus.
02:17So, yeah, I do like that this has the higher resolution.
02:20But the S22 still looks pretty good.
02:23Everything is pretty sharp.
02:25Bezels are still really good on the S22 Plus here.
02:28I wouldn't necessarily say,
02:30I can't, you can't even really tell
02:32the bezel difference, honestly.
02:35It's really not that noticeable.
02:37So, the S22 Plus still looks really good.
02:41I think the display upgrade is decent,
02:43but definitely not anything that most people would notice
02:46for the most part.
02:47Let's check out our benchmark scores here.
02:49So, you can see a gigantic difference
02:51in the multi-core score with the S24 Plus here.
02:55So, let's go ahead and talk about this.
02:56So, we are running Android 14 on both of these phones.
03:00We do have the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 on the S22 Plus,
03:04128 gigs and eight gigs of RAM.
03:06On the S24, we have the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor,
03:10256 gigs and 12 gigs of RAM.
03:13And these are the base models.
03:15So, as you guys can see,
03:17just a big score difference in that multi-core.
03:21And then also, if you look at our 3DMark,
03:24the biggest issue with the 8 Gen 1
03:25is it kinda heating up a little bit.
03:29Like I said, I've never had that issue
03:30because I am not a power user,
03:33but you can see 13 frames, six,
03:37and then you can see they both lost a percent.
03:41This one is much cooler, started at 25, 30.
03:45This went 29 to 33, and then you can see the FPS here.
03:50So, the S22 Plus will definitely get a little bit warmer
03:55than I would like just using the phone.
03:58The Snapdragon 888 and 8 Gen 1
04:00are kinda like known for kinda heating up a little bit.
04:03All right, so if we get into a little app launch test here,
04:06let's check out the speed animations.
04:09The S22 Plus has been really good with animations
04:12and overall, it doesn't feel jittery or slow
04:15or anything like that at all.
04:18Now, of course, the S24 Plus,
04:21because it has so much more RAM,
04:23it'll keep more applications in the background for sure.
04:27So, if you're really like a power multitasker,
04:30then that RAM, having that RAM is gonna be really nice.
04:34But overall, I don't really see a difference
04:36in performance here.
04:37It's really hard to spot the difference.
04:39The S22 Plus is still really silky smooth,
04:43even though we have that massive frame rate difference,
04:45well, not frame rate,
04:46but we have that massive score difference in Geekbench.
04:50They still pretty much feel on par with each other,
04:52which is really nice.
04:53Let's go ahead and launch PUBG here.
04:56So, as far as the gaming experience goes,
04:59the main thing that's gonna pop out here
05:01is that if you are a gamer, less heating problems,
05:04like you really don't get any type of heating issues
05:07with the S24.
05:09This phone, obviously it can get warm,
05:12but it's not getting anywhere near as warm
05:13as the S22 Plus in my opinion.
05:16And you get the full 120 frames on here,
05:19Genshin, whatever, you know this phone is gonna
05:22just play games extremely well.
05:24So, your gaming experience overall
05:26is gonna be a little bit better.
05:28I would say if you're a casual gamer though,
05:31I really wouldn't upgrade for gaming
05:33because the S22 Plus still does a great job.
05:36Even now, the S22 Plus is just a little bit warmer
05:40than the S24 here.
05:42We have 90 frames on here, so still really good
05:45being able to play at 90 frames,
05:47especially for this price point.
05:48Everything still looks good.
05:50Like I said, coming in here, playing a couple matches,
05:52PUBG, Call of Duty, it's perfectly fine.
05:55But if you're actually really consider yourself
05:58a mobile gamer, then this would be a pretty good upgrade
06:01if you're playing for long periods of time,
06:03then it makes sense to get the phone
06:05that is gonna one, get better frame rates,
06:08and then two, it's not gonna have so much heating problems
06:11and also cut into the battery.
06:14So yeah, so definitely take that into consideration.
06:18All right, so software-wise, I do wanna talk about it.
06:21Again, seven years of major OS updates on the S24 Plus
06:25here and both phones actually do have the AI features.
06:30Now, you don't have, I think you're missing
06:31like one or two AI features on the S22 models in general,
06:35but most of the essential stuff is actually here.
06:38So that's really cool and it'll get the Android 15 update,
06:42which we will cover, I'm really excited for that.
06:44And yeah, so as far as like the software experience,
06:47it's really not that different right now.
06:50So in a few years, then we'll revisit this comparison.
06:55But right now, software feels exactly identical
06:59to each other.
07:00As far as the camera situation goes,
07:02you pretty much have the exact same specs.
07:06So both phones have a 50 megapixel standard.
07:08Both phones have 10 megapixel telephoto with telephoto,
07:12not with telephoto, but with three times optical zoom.
07:15And then you also have a 12 megapixel ultrawide.
07:17Both phones shoot in 8K 24,
07:20but the S24 Plus can shoot in 8K 30.
07:24You also do have a 10 megapixel selfie on the S22 Plus,
07:28and then that one can shoot in 4K 60.
07:31On the S24, it is a 12 megapixel,
07:34and that one also shoots in 4K 60.
07:35So pretty much identical specs for the most part here.
07:39Take a look at these side-by-side stills,
07:41let me know what you guys think.
07:42♪♪♪
08:01♪♪♪
08:08♪♪♪
08:15♪♪♪
08:22♪♪♪
08:27♪♪♪
08:34♪♪♪
08:41♪♪♪
08:48♪♪♪
08:53♪♪♪
09:00♪♪♪
09:07♪♪♪
09:14♪♪♪
09:20Let's go ahead and we got in my max volume.
09:23Start with the S22.
09:25♪♪♪
09:32♪♪♪
09:39♪♪♪
09:45♪♪♪
09:52All right, so easily a better speaker on the S24+.
09:56The S22 series in general has some of the weakest speakers
10:00that Samsung put out in my opinion.
10:03And this one just lacks bass.
10:05It's not terrible, so don't get me wrong, it's not terrible.
10:08But compared to the S24, it just lacks fullness.
10:11It just doesn't sound full.
10:14It sounds very flat.
10:17So overall, I really like the speakers on the S24+.
10:20They sound a lot better.
10:22As far as your other features,
10:24the fingerprint scanners are exactly the same.
10:26They're both ultrasonic.
10:28Face unlock is still the same.
10:30It feels just as fast.
10:32Lastly, we have to talk about battery life.
10:34So there is a minor change here with battery life.
10:37And it's not really minor.
10:39I think this is overall just...
10:41You do get better battery life on the S24+,
10:43and it has a lot to do with this chip.
10:45So it's got a 4900 mAh battery
10:48versus the 4700 mAh battery, or 4500, excuse me.
10:52And then you also do have 45-watt charging on here,
10:5615-watt wireless charging.
10:58You have reverse wireless charging on here.
11:00But they charge the same,
11:02and the overall experience is definitely a little bit better.
11:05The standby time is better on the S24+,
11:09and overall you get a little bit better screen on time for the most part.
11:12Especially if you put this in 1080p,
11:15the battery life is a lot better.
11:17But I run it in 1440p.
11:19But the S22+, what's interesting about this
11:23is this phone does way better
11:25with the One UI 6.1 update with standby time.
11:29It used to be, like, okay, not that great.
11:32But this one and the S22 Ultra does a much better job.
11:35So I just thought that was interesting.
11:38But yeah, so battery life is not terrible on the S22+,
11:41and it's definitely, the S24+, definitely a slight step up.
11:46Would I consider this, like, upgrade worthy? No.
11:49But it is a little bit better,
11:51which is, you know, what we like to see, right?
11:53But yeah, that's pretty much it, guys.
11:55Be sure to let me know what you guys think,
11:57and I'll catch you guys in the next one.
