00:00That's why it makes a lot of sense to consider the S23 Ultra if you guys are coming from
00:05an older flagship or you're just coming from a mid-range phone and you're thinking about
00:09should I get the S24 Ultra?
00:11You can actually save quite a bit of money and just get the S23 Ultra in the used refurbished
00:16marketplace for $635 but even if you were to buy this phone brand new here, you could
00:21still get it for around $800 brand new and it is definitely an extremely good deal.
00:29Like I said, I would get it in the used refurbished marketplace.
00:31The one I have here is used refurbished because an S24 is going to cost you, I think you can
00:37see like here, $1250 and then also I think this one might be, oh this is new, so you
00:44can find a new one for around $1000 here, let's see, this one, yeah you can find a new
00:52one for around $1000 here but like I said, I would pay significantly less money and the
00:58reason I say that is because you're practically getting the same phone with the S23.
01:02Like I said, the S23 is going to be one of those phones that's going to age extremely
01:06well here.
01:07Let's talk about hardware, they're both premium designs, glass and metal designs.
01:12The S24 has the titanium and you know, it's a fancy material but it doesn't really change
01:18the experience that much, it's a little bit lighter for sure but it's really not that
01:23much different from the S23.
01:26Design wise, they're both boxy and they pretty much feel the same.
01:29They both have the S-Pen built in which you know, feels exactly the same as well too.
01:34So I would say for hardware, you can see these phones are extremely similar besides you know,
01:39the titanium design here, there's not really too much different going on.
01:43Talk about the displays, you virtually have the same displays here.
01:47They're both LTPO, AMOLED, 120Hz, HDR10+, they're both 6.8 inches, they're both 1440p,
01:55they both have around 500ppi.
01:57The biggest difference here is the max brightness, you have a 1750 nits max brightness on the
02:03S23 and then you have a 2600 nits peak brightness on the S24.
02:09In direct sunlight, they both do a very good job so it's not like a crazy difference but
02:13yeah, the S24 is brighter.
02:15Also you have a curved display on the S23, it's a slight curve so it's not super dramatic.
02:20You have a completely flat panel on the S24 which is really nice.
02:24I like the flat panel, it grew on me.
02:26I was a big fan of the curved panels.
02:28What's interesting here is that the older Samsung displays here just looks more colorful
02:35even though I turned the vividness up on the S24, it still looks more colorful on the S23.
02:42So that's one thing that I noticed Samsung had this issue where out of the box, this
02:46phone looked way different than the older models but like I said, the screens are pretty
02:53much identical so that's why I said you're paying for really what a flat display in slightly
02:58higher brightness.
03:00So you have to make that decision whether that matters but like I said, they're too
03:04similar for me to consider this an upgrade.
03:07Alright, so this is the part which is going to make the S23 last a long time because we
03:13hit a really good peak with this chipset.
03:16The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is a very efficient chipset.
03:21This chipset does a fantastic job.
03:23So the base is 256 gigs and 8 gigs of RAM on this model and then on the S24, the 8 Gen
03:303 is still really good but there's very little difference here in my opinion in performance.
03:37Even if we're doing heavier tasks, there's very little difference and I think this chip
03:40is going to be excellent like the Snapdragon 8 55 and 65.
03:45It's going to just still be really, really fast and really, really good down the years.
03:49So we have 256 gigs and 12 gigs of RAM on the S24 here.
03:54Performance wise, like I said, it's almost pretty much identical in my opinion.
03:58Yeah, of course you can run benchmarks and stuff and it'll be faster in the benchmarks
04:04but guys, I'm telling you.
04:06So here's the still nomad light test here.
04:08You can see higher FPS on the S24 of course here and then we go down here and we didn't
04:15not move a percentage in the battery which is really nice.
04:19So this phone, it was the first Samsung phone that I used that I was like wow, the battery
04:23life is so much better here and for whatever reason, this one was actually cooler at starting
04:29than the 8 Gen 3 here.
04:31You can see overall slightly better performance here but like I said, it really does not matter
04:36in my opinion because it just doesn't feel that different.
04:41So yeah, you can run like little app tests, benchmarks and it'll be a little bit faster
04:47but guys, it's really not that different from each other.
04:51So that's why I said, people get like, they get super hyped about benchmarks and stuff.
04:56Going by benchmarks and stuff is not a reason to shell out an extra $500 guys especially
05:03if it's not even that big of a deal.
05:05You guys can see the animations, the app loading time.
05:09Does this look like a major upgrade to you?
05:14They virtually feel the same guys.
05:17So I always get that question, well the benchmarks, it doesn't heat it up and buy that.
05:22This phone does not heat up and this phone does not heat up either but you're paying
05:26significantly less guys and the price is only going to come down on the S23 Ultra as we
05:30get closer to the S25.
05:32So that's why I said, this will be an extremely good phone in the used refurbished marketplace.
05:43It actually got in there first.
05:45I think this one has some type of download, shouldn't have took that long.
05:49What about gaming performance?
05:51Like I said, we saw the benchmarks, of course you're going to get better gaming performance
05:55on the S24, it just has a more powerful, you know, benchmarks and stuff like that but the
06:00gaming performance is really not that different as well here.
06:03We got 120 frames on the S23.
06:05It can still play Genshin extremely well, it can play Call of Duty very well, emulators.
06:11There's nothing that this phone can't really do and you're getting virtually the same experience
06:16here.
06:17They, again, feel extremely similar.
06:20The S24 here obviously can play at 120 frames as well too.
06:25It can play Genshin and all that stuff really well.
06:27So these phones, no issues with heating, you know, at least for me.
06:32No issues with crashing or anything like that.
06:35I've had a very good experience gaming on this phone here.
06:39Alright, so let's look at the max speakers volume, starting with the S23.
06:57Alright, so the good thing is they actually both sound pretty similar.
07:16Really clean sound, great bass, so no issues there.
07:20They actually, I can't tell if it's an upgrade or not because they sound so much alike.
07:25Alright, fingerprint scanners are ultrasonic of course.
07:28They work really well.
07:29You can do face unlock as well too.
07:31Now the most...
07:32Alright, so the next reason why I would really consider the Galaxy S23 is because you have
07:37all of the same Galaxy AI features here guys.
07:40All of the same features are here.
07:42I think, yeah, most of them should be here.
07:45But yeah, the Galaxy AI features are here, so that's really like the next big thing with
07:50smartphones is going to be, you know, this AI stuff.
07:54And it's all here, so it's just going to make the S23 feel even more, you know, like
08:00an S24.
08:01So yeah, I was really happy when they brought those features down to the older models here
08:08and you pretty much get everything that you would get on a S24 on the S23 here.
08:14And as they continue to update the phones here, you'll get more features here.
08:18And let's go ahead and talk about that.
08:19So one of the, I guess, the main benefits with an S24 series phone is that it actually
08:24gets 7 years of major OS updates.
08:27Now the S23 will actually get up to Android 17, so it gets 4 years of major OS updates.
08:35And I think that's perfectly fine.
08:37It will get, you know, security patches after and stuff like that.
08:40But I think by that time, most people will, you know, probably either upgrade or they'll
08:45just hold on to the phone because I'm telling you, like 4 years from now, just like a Snapdragon
08:49855, 865, this chipset will still be really fast.
08:53It will feel extremely similar to, you know, the whatever Galaxy phone is out at that time.
08:58Let's talk about the cameras and the side-by-side stills and video I'm going to show you.
09:03So on the S24, we have a 200 megapixel standard, 10 megapixel telephoto with 3x optical, a
09:1150 megapixel periscope telephoto, 5x optical, and a 12 megapixel ultra-wide.
09:16It can shoot in 8K, 24, and 30 with a 12 megapixel selfie that shoots in 4K, 60.
09:21Now the S23 has a 200 megapixel standard.
09:26It has a 10 megapixel telephoto, 3x optical, and a 10 megapixel periscope with 10x optical.
09:32So you guys can see that switch from the 5 to the 10x as well.
09:37And you also have a 12 megapixel ultra-wide and it shoots in 8K, 24, and 30, 12 megapixel
09:43selfie that shoots in 4K, 60.
09:46So pretty similar camera specs.
09:49But let's go ahead and check out these side-by-side stills.
09:53Peace.
10:13Peace.
10:43Peace.
11:13Peace.
11:21Alright, and lastly is going to be the battery life.
11:25Battery life is pretty much identical for my experience as a lighter user.
11:305,000 mAh battery on both 45-watt charging wireless and reverse wireless charging.
11:36They pretty much feel the same.
11:37The S23, in my opinion, was the first Samsung phone that I had, especially considering how
11:43inefficient the S22 was, with just excellent battery life.
11:48I was super, super impressed with the battery life on the S23.
11:52And it's the same thing on the S24, so like I said, there's no actual upgrade in my opinion.
11:58The battery drain test and stuff like that you might see online, they'll show a number,
12:03but in real life, they feel like they're pretty much draining the same.
12:07So be sure to let me know what you guys think, and I will catch you guys in the next one.
