00:00What's up guys, today I wanted to do a video on the iPhone 8 and this late 2022 as we get
00:07closer to the iPhone 14.
00:10This should even come down in price more.
00:12I got mine for $200 earlier in the year and you can see it's at $134, it's $150 on Amazon.
00:19The price will continue to come down, like I said, as we get closer to that iPhone 14.
00:23It should be around $100.
00:25This is the, I believe, the oldest iPhone to be able to run iOS 16.
00:30I'm actually running it, the beta software on here and I just wanted to see how it would
00:35perform and it's actually still very smooth guys, very, very surprising.
00:40So one of the things about the iPhone 8 is, you know, the audience that I like to recommend
00:44it to is that, of course, anybody on a very, you know, extreme budget and you only have
00:49like a hundred, you know, bucks to spend, you need something reliable, this is a really
00:52good option for anybody who wants something that's very, very small.
00:57Also for anybody who has an Android phone and you want to use FaceTime, you want to
01:01use iMessage, you want to see what iOS 16 is all about, this is a very low investment
01:06option as well too.
01:07So definitely consider that if you are, you know, a diehard Android but you also need
01:12a device that you can FaceTime and do stuff like that, use iMessage.
01:16Consider the iPhone 8, like I said, very low investment device here.
01:20So I'm going to go over this device.
01:22It has the same body style or I would say the SE 2020, it has the same body style as
01:28that basically because it is, the SE just takes from this design pretty much.
01:35And it's very comfortable in the hand.
01:36So anybody who likes small phones, you'll really like the iPhone 8 here.
01:41It has the 4.7 inch Retina IPS display.
01:45You really can't find any phones this size with a 4.7 inch display.
01:50So it's a very small phone and it's extremely comfortable compared to just the massive phones
01:54we have these days at 6.8, 6.9 inches here.
01:59And the screen actually still looks somewhat pretty good actually.
02:02So it really, it really doesn't look any different from the iPhone, the SE 2022 that came out
02:10this year.
02:11It still is actually pretty sharp when we look at icons and stuff like that since it
02:14does have, you know, that pretty high PPI for such a small screen.
02:18It still looks sharp to the eye.
02:20So I actually don't have any problems with the screen.
02:23And also one thing that you could like about the iPhone is that this phone does not have
02:29any type of notch or anything like that.
02:31So when you're watching videos or you're playing games and stuff like that, you don't get any
02:36type of intrusion on the display, which is really nice.
02:40It's also fairly somewhat bright.
02:43Again, it can be, you can struggle a little bit outdoors, but overall it's a fairly bright
02:49panel as well.
02:50Now you're probably wondering like, what is a gaming performance like on this phone in
02:56general?
02:57And it's actually somewhat pretty decent actually.
02:59So we do have the Apple A11 chip on here.
03:02This one does have 64 gigs and then it's got two gigs of RAM.
03:07Just playing PUBG, we are able to play at, you know, smooth extreme, but we're not able
03:13to, you know, these are high settings so we can't do HDR extreme or anything like that.
03:18But you will notice the occasional frame rate drops.
03:21Sometimes you, I think the best way to play games on here is to make sure you don't have
03:25any other games playing and then it kind of smooths itself out a little bit.
03:30Before a hundred bucks, it's very, very smooth and it'll beat like any generic phone that
03:34you would pick up, you know, at Walmart or just some random generic phone.
03:39It actually will beat it in graphics and the benchmark performance as well too.
03:43So it's actually somewhat still a decent chip for, like I said, a hundred bucks.
03:48Like I said, PUBG runs really smooth on this phone here.
03:52One thing I noticed like during long periods of gaming, it can get a little bit hot.
03:57Now most people will have a case on it so they might not notice, but that was one thing
04:00like you play games on here like for a long time, the phone starts to heat up a little
04:05bit.
04:06One thing that I definitely noticed here and also you guys can check out the Geekbench
04:12scores on here too and you guys can see it does a pretty good job at the Geekbench scores,
04:18especially if you compare it to other phones.
04:20I've always thought that was funny.
04:22So Apple always has these really strong chips that last a really long time.
04:26So you can see like I'm bouncing in and out of applications and stuff like that and we're
04:30not getting like a bunch of lag and stuff like that.
04:32So that's one of my main concerns with these older phones is like, am I going to experience
04:36lag when I'm just doing basic stuff, when I'm just scrolling, when I'm bouncing in and
04:40out of applications?
04:42Is the phone still usable, right?
04:44And this phone is actually still pretty usable.
04:46It really does not lag.
04:47It's pretty fast at doing like your basic tasks.
04:51So that is like my main thing and that's what I think a lot of people when they buy a $100
04:55phone, they're not trying to do a bunch of fancy stuff.
04:57They just want the phone to work and not be lagging all over the place and this phone
05:00will get it done.
05:02A lot of those $100 phones that you will see, they will start to run fine and then like
05:09give it like a month or two and watch how laggy they get.
05:11But this will be pretty consistent when it comes to performance.
05:19So definitely it's still somewhat decent.
05:22Yeah, you will have those occasional stutters, but it's much smoother than you would expect.
05:26Now let's talk about some of the additional features on this phone.
05:29So we do have IP67 dust and water resistant.
05:32So you're able to get this phone wet and it won't break immediately.
05:36And this is also a glass and metal phone.
05:38So it does have that premium feel to it, a really nice feel in the hand here.
05:44We still have our, of course, our silent switch on the left hand side.
05:50And then what a lot of people actually like is this touch ID button.
05:54It's very, very nice if you want a phone with a physical home button, then you'll really
06:01like this phone as well too.
06:03And also you do have on here the wireless charging as well too, which is really nice.
06:11So you do get wireless charging for a hundred bucks.
06:13So just to be able to put this phone down and it starts charging is always a nice addition
06:18to have.
06:19And as far as iOS 16, it has a lot of the new like customization stuff that you would
06:27see on the newer iPhones.
06:30So it's pretty much all still here.
06:33So it's not like missing anything from my knowledge, right?
06:37This could change during the final, right?
06:39But a lot of the customizations and stuff is still here.
06:43You're still able to do a lot of customizing with this phone.
06:46So I was really happy to see that they didn't cut back a ton of features on this phone here.
06:53The speaker quality is fine on here.
06:56It does have dual speakers.
06:58So watching videos and stuff like that, it's fine.
07:07The speakers have a pretty good amount of bass.
07:09If you block the speaker out, the top speaker, it does have somewhat of good quality.
07:15So like I said, it's not like the best obviously, but it is decent for a stereo speaker, which
07:22is nice.
07:23So I also want to talk about the camera.
07:25So the camera's definitely, you can see the aging of the cameras a little bit here, especially
07:31if you take it out of any type of good lighting situation, you will definitely see images
07:36start to soft, grainy images and stuff like that.
07:39In good lighting conditions, you actually get somewhat of a good shot with this phone,
07:44which is pretty nice.
07:45But like I said, the cameras on here, they're just kind of okay.
07:48It's not anything like that would be like super crazy or anything like that.
07:52Sometimes it'll have white balance issues and stuff like that.
07:55Like I said, detail, the dynamic range is just okay.
07:59But like I said, from these shots, I mean, honestly, let me know how you guys feel about
08:03the camera.
08:04So it's got a 12 megapixel standard.
08:06It can shoot actually in 4K 24.
08:08I actually thought the video was pretty decent as well too.
08:11Shoot in 4K 24 through 60, you have a seven megapixel selfie cam that shoots in 1080p.
08:16Like I said, the image quality, it has aged a little bit.
08:21Obviously, just for me using newer phones and stuff like that, even budget phones, but
08:27I think in good lighting, you can still pull off a pretty decent shot out of this phone.
08:31You guys can see the images for yourself.
08:34So yeah, let me know what you guys think about the image quality, but I think they're pretty
08:38decent in good lighting.
08:39All right, so lastly, here's the thing with this phone.
08:42So before you buy one of these phones, especially if you get it off of eBay, you want to ask
08:48for battery health because these phones typically will die pretty fast.
08:53So this phone has a somewhat small battery, 1,821 milliamps.
09:00Like I said, it does have 15 watt fast charging with wireless charging.
09:05You can see mine has 84% battery health.
09:10You can typically, if you have somewhat decent battery health, these phones typically go
09:14for four hours, three hours, and 30 minutes of screen on time, which is not that great.
09:21One alternative that you can do is you can buy a battery case and charge it up that way.
09:28They really go for little to nothing, but still, the battery life is not going to be
09:32good on here, especially if you do a lot of gaming.
09:36Now just for your casual average use, yeah, it won't drain as bad, but still, this phone
09:43can't get you through a full day without charging.
09:45It's impossible.
09:46Even if the battery health is 100%, the battery health is 100%, you're looking at like four
09:50hours, maybe an extra 30 minutes, right?
09:53So yeah, battery life isn't that great on this phone.
09:56Even if you have pretty decent battery health, you still can't get through a full day.
10:01But other than that, I really like the iPhone 8 as, like I said, an entry-level iPhone for
10:06people who are on Android, they want to use FaceTime, they want to use iMessage, stuff
10:10like that.
10:12They just want to check out iOS, right?
10:14This is a great alternative.
10:15You give it to a kid, it's 100 bucks, you spent no money on it, and like I said, they
10:21can play pretty much most games, not at the highest settings, right?
10:25But most games work on this phone, no problem.
10:29So be sure to let me know what you guys think, and I'll catch you guys in the next one.
