00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're taking a look at 10 major differences between Silent
00:14Hill 2 and its remake.
00:22Before we begin, we publish new videos all week long, so be sure to subscribe to Mojo
00:26Plays and ring the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:30An Expanded Silent Hill
00:37One of the first big changes veteran players might notice will occur as you step foot into
00:41the town of Silent Hill.
00:43Whereas the original Silent Hill 2 was more linear in where you could go, the remake is
00:48putting a bigger focus on exploration.
00:51As you complete objectives, you will have to venture back out into Silent Hill's foggy
00:54landscape, forcing you to endure more terrors despite whatever backtracking you wind up
01:00doing.
01:01On top of that, the way Silent Hill has been arranged makes the game feel more like, well,
01:05you know, a town, and not just a bunch of objects coincidentally placed to form a path
01:10for you to follow.
01:20Interior Renovations
01:29Along with the new layout of Silent Hill comes some changes to even indoor areas.
01:33OG fans will recognize just about every room inside buildings, but what's different in
01:38Silent Hill 2's remake is the layout.
01:41Rooms have been rearranged in a way that makes more logical sense to what one would see in
01:45the real world.
01:46Not only does this make Silent Hill seem more like a town that could actually exist, it
01:51also provides a fresher experience for veterans by changing how some puzzles might need to
01:56be solved.
01:57Speaking of which…
02:05The Puzzles
02:16Puzzles have seen a bit of remixing for the Silent Hill 2 remake as well.
02:20In terms of purpose and solutions, almost every puzzle is relatively the same.
02:25However, the big difference here between the original Silent Hill 2 and the remake is in
02:30structure.
02:31As we mentioned earlier, you will have to scurry to and from various locations within
02:35Silent Hill.
02:36Part of the reason behind this is how some pieces to a puzzle may be scattered across
02:40other areas.
02:41In other words, it might take you longer to solve them than it did back on PlayStation
02:452, and you might have some additional steps to follow more than you did back in 2001.
02:58Combat
03:04On the surface, there doesn't seem to be much difference in Silent Hill 2's combat.
03:08On the contrary, there is a vastly different take here that you simply cannot see without
03:13playing it, much less watch a playthrough.
03:15The original game was very much true to the survival horror genre, making combat more
03:20as a desperate means of self-defense, and less of a necessity.
03:24In the remake, enemies are much more hostile than they ever were, meaning you have to confront
03:29the monsters.
03:30And no, flailing your weapon around like a madman and mindlessly attacking is not going
03:34to keep James alive.
03:36Enemies can dodge too.
03:42Enemy Variety
03:49In an effort to keep combat from getting stale, developer Bloober Team aimed to rework enemies,
03:54their attacks, and their general placement in each area.
03:57If you want to make it out of Silent Hill alive, you're going to have to learn how
04:00to adapt to each combat scenario, which enemies to prioritize, and how to effectively dodge
04:06their attacks.
04:07In a sense, it's almost like how a lot of action RPGs like Dark Souls play.
04:12So just because you took out a lying figure in a mannequin with no problem doesn't mean
04:17you can do the same for nurses and flesh lips.
04:25No Loading Screens
04:27Hold your horses for a minute.
04:41While the lack of loading screens is a nice advancement in today's technology, this
04:45has actually added a new layer to Silent Hill 2's gameplay.
04:49You may be able to freely enter and exit most areas without interruptions now, but that
04:53does not mean you are the only one benefiting from this once ancient hurdle.
04:58Enemies can also enter and exit from certain areas, and even follow you into other areas
05:04if you try to run away.
05:05That said, if you are trying to solve a puzzle or search for collectibles in a specific area,
05:10settle your fights first before you go wandering.
05:19Angela and Eddie
05:29With the drastic changes in technology between 2001 and 2024, it should go without saying
05:34that every character in Silent Hill 2 looks different than they did more than 20 years
05:39ago.
05:40But while most of the cast look relatively the same, if not better than before, others
05:44have gotten really weird about Angela and Eddie.
05:48Both characters seem to have been given even more full faces than they had before.
05:53Angela's cheeks are a bit more noticeable, while Eddie looks less burly and more rotund
05:58than before.
05:59Even so, Silent Hill 2 does star a cast of normal people, not action movie stars like
06:06Leon, Jill, and Ada in Resident Evil.
06:14Maria
06:22While we're on the subject of character changes and the cast looking like normal people, Maria
06:26saw a substantial redesign here.
06:29Her original iteration leans somewhat heavily into her sexy nature, with her revealing red
06:34cardigan, skirt, and boots.
06:36The remake still retains some of that sex appeal, while being a bit more classy and
06:41less revealing.
06:42Her cardigan has been replaced with a red jacket, though her appearance still captures
06:47that unsettling feeling that her original iteration carried.
06:57The UFO Ending
07:03We promise we won't go too deep into the details regarding endings.
07:07If you want to go and see them for yourself, you really should go play the remake.
07:11It's great, and all of the original endings are present in the remake, well except for
07:15that one that was exclusive to the PS2 Greatest Hits version, but that's besides the point.
07:20However, the UFO ending received a major alteration.
07:24In the original game, James encounters a UFO piloted by an alien and Henry from the first
07:31Silent Hill game, and Henry is still rendered in all of his PS1 glory.
07:36Henry and the alien zap James before dragging him into the spacecraft.
07:40Now what does the remake change?
07:42We'll just say this, Henry is no longer in Silent Hill 2.
07:53Two New Endings?
08:01In addition to the new UFO ending, Silent Hill 2's remake boasts two entirely new
08:06endings for players to discover.
08:08We won't say what happens in either of these, so you can experience them for yourself, but
08:13if you want to go for these, you will have to beat the game once and unlock New Game
08:17Plus.
08:18On your new playthrough, you will have to obtain specific items depending on which ending
08:22you want to go for.
08:24One of these two endings even has an additional requirement for reaching the In Water ending
08:29first before attempting another playthrough.
08:32Think you can figure it out for yourself?
08:45Now tell us, how are you liking Silent Hill 2's remake?
08:47I'm really impressed personally, but let us know down in the comments below, and be
08:52sure to subscribe to Mojo Plays for more great videos every day.
