Maybe its because we had low expectations but we really enjoyed playing Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. It's definitely not an Arkham game but if you want a fun, bright superhero romp then this might be just the best game to play.

00:00You think you can stop us?
00:02Thought you'd never ask.
00:04So I'm with Jasmine and she has played Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League
00:09and a lot of attention has been paid to this game
00:11mainly because a lot of people like the characters
00:13and Rocksteady are making it
00:15and also there has been some leaks that have happened about it
00:18that have not necessarily been positive.
00:20But what I found most interesting is
00:23you played it for upwards of four hours
00:25and you really enjoyed it.
00:26I did and again I'm not sure if that's because
00:29I went in with not even low expectations
00:31just no expectations.
00:32I was like if I play a game today I will be happy.
00:35I think that I was very surprised by how much fun I had with it.
00:38Is it the most groundbreaking thing ever?
00:40No, but what it is is lots of fun.
00:43Harley, no!
00:45Worth it!
00:47It's colourful.
00:48It wants you to have fun.
00:49It really enables you and facilitates your fun with your friends.
00:53It doesn't make you feel like you suck.
00:55It doesn't make you feel like you have to grind for hours and hours to get good
00:58because each of the characters is so different
01:00that you can tailor it to pretty much whatever you want it to be.
01:03Because you were saying that you play through each of the four characters
01:05to learn the different movesets and their styles
01:07and learn how the game works.
01:08But straight away you were like Harley Quinn is not for me.
01:11Yeah.
01:12Because just the way that she moved and jumped
01:13you were like no that's not for me
01:15and you much more gravitated towards Deadshot who had the jetpack.
01:18Yes, yes.
01:19So I think it's because of each of the characters
01:23they have their own way of getting around the map.
01:26It's very vertical.
01:28There's a lot more to Metropolis than there was to Arkham Island
01:32and part of that is how they move.
01:35So for Deadshot his jetpack I think for me was more intuitive off the bat.
01:40I also liked his sniper rifle that he had as well
01:44as some bombs that he could just throw out and decimate enemies.
01:47It's just so much fun.
01:48But with Harley, Harley's traversal is a lot more
01:52there's a knack to it, there's a rhythm to it
01:54and she swings around using a grappling hook
01:58and this floating disc in the sky.
02:00I was awful at it, I will be honest with you.
02:02Movesets is catered to the character themselves as well
02:05so it feels very sort of true to the character
02:08it feels very on brand for each of them.
02:10That is one of the issues that people, well many issues with Gotham Knights
02:14but there's an element where they're all kind of Batman clones
02:17they're all kind of like Batman light and a Batman adjacent
02:19whereas Suicide Squad, one of the benefits is
02:22every character is so vastly different
02:25and also with the game moving forward as well
02:28different characters come in and out
02:30like certain characters die and characters leave the squad and stuff.
02:32They've got a large breadth of characters that they can bring into this
02:35that you can play with where if you complete the game
02:37and then they bring in more characters
02:39it can completely change how the game plays which is really interesting.
02:41Definitely, and again they didn't tell me
02:44who they would be adding to the Suicide Squad
02:47I do know that there will be new characters
02:49I do know that a lot of these characters
02:52are ones that you can unlock after the game
02:55so the first year after launch will be free
02:57all the content will be free
02:59whatever they release in that first year
03:01and then after that if you don't really want to pay for it
03:04you don't have to, you can also play the game
03:06to unlock new characters as well.
03:08Because that's something else that came out
03:10and a lot of people were worried about is the monetisation side
03:12Roxley never said what the monetisation was or how it worked
03:15but there were some screens that made it look like there was monetisation involved
03:18but you're saying you've talked to them and you've asked them
03:21and they have said categorically that in the first year of it coming out
03:24if you've paid for the game you don't have to pay anything
03:26after that first year if there's more stuff that comes out that they make
03:30you can pay for it if you want
03:32but you can also unlock those characters in game.
03:34Yeah.
03:35Fantastic, that's like the perfect middle ground of like
03:37if you want it, pay for it, just get it done
03:39but if you don't mind grinding, that's great.
03:41Speaking of the characters and how they brought them to life
03:44this looks amazing!
03:46It's so good!
03:48I'm constantly getting surprised by the PS5
03:50the next generation console and stuff
03:52but this is a fantastic looking game.
03:54It's stunning.
03:56When I was playing it I was absolutely blown away
04:00by how the visual fidelity of it is phenomenal.
04:03It looks like I'm watching a movie
04:05but also because there's mocap in it too
04:07it all looks extremely realistic
04:10and all of the characters, the voice acting is brilliant
04:13the writing is excellent
04:15they really managed to capture the essence of what makes
04:18the Suicide Squad a band of villains
04:20because we're not playing heroes
04:22we are playing villains who are unruly, chaotic
04:24and the world reflects who they are.
04:26Nothing that we've seen from Rocksteady
04:28but in some ways the fact that it's so different
04:31to the Arkham games
04:33makes it in some ways incredibly Rocksteady
04:35because it shows that they're still trying to
04:37push what we expect from them
04:39and of course if you're going into it expecting
04:42the dark gritty nature of Batman Arkham
04:45and that really up close personal melee and stealth
04:48you're not going to get that.
04:50So again the idea is to think about it
04:52not like a sequel to Arkham
04:54but sort of the next generation of the studio
04:56that gave us those games
04:58and showing us what else they can do
05:00when it's not night time for a change
05:02when there's actual daylight
05:04and when there's colour involved
05:06and with that colour comes some really colourful characters.
05:09And also the other great thing is being able to play
05:11with your friends as well, with other people
05:13and just having that laugh and enjoyment
05:15and joy.
05:17I can understand with Rocksteady how they were like
05:19okay we've done Batman, we've done dark and gritty
05:21we've done slightly depressing, let's have a bit of fun
05:23and they've clearly been able to flex their muscles
05:25and it looks great.
05:27You also mentioned as well that the one thread
05:29that has been pulled from the Arkham
05:31is a narrative focused storyline
05:33so there is this thing where there's a proper story here
05:35there's a reason why it's called Suicide Squad
05:37and then there's the Justice League
05:39you're actually trying to kill the corrupted
05:41Justice League, Superman gone bad
05:43how's the narrative side of it, how's the story?
05:45So basically the story is that
05:47Brainiac has taken over the whole of Metropolis
05:49and corrupted the Justice League
05:51and along with them
05:53he's also enslaved the Justice League
05:55who are now a bunch of brainwashed
05:57lackeys doing his bidding
05:59and the only people left to save the day
06:01are the Suicide Squad
06:03emerging from the depths of Arkham Asylum
06:05in their jumpsuits
06:07and they're like, what's happening out here?
06:09So it's not like Waller's come in and got them
06:11it's literally like, they're in their jumpsuits
06:13the prison's just been wall knocked down
06:15Like all the heroes are
06:17effectively dead, or they should be dead
06:19and the only people they consent to kill
06:21the Justice League are the ones who have
06:23been fighting against them all these years
06:25It's Captain Boomerang!
06:27Because they have no idea why they're there
06:29they're like, you want us? Really?
06:31You want us to be the good guys and save the city?
06:33Well listen, you have no choice
06:35they essentially inject each of them with a bomb
06:37in their necks and they say
06:39do what we say or otherwise we will kill you
06:41so it's not like they're doing this out of the kindness
06:43of their hearts, they're doing it to save their own lives
06:45and the best thing is
06:47the way that they get the bombs in their necks
06:49is, they do it to each other
06:51they sort of
06:53rush to grab the bombs
06:55and there's this intro bit where they're all
06:57scrambling and trying to
06:59get each other's necks with the bomb
07:01because they think if they do that
07:03then they'll be set free
07:05so it just shows that they really are just out there
07:07for each other but by doing that
07:09they've played into Waller's own hand
07:11and she's like, well now I own all of you
07:13because now, yeah
07:15Oh wow, that's great
07:17Again, it's something that I can understand
07:19people having a lot of apprehension
07:21refrain from having any expectations
07:23and you will not be disappointed
07:25do not go in expecting the same thing
07:27that you've always played
07:29it's actually better than you think it is
07:31and I'm saying that with sincerity
07:33it's a fun game and it's not another Valorant
07:35it's not another capture the flag kind of game
07:37it is a narrative driven game
07:39that has real stakes, it has
07:41beautiful cut scenes
07:43it's got that punchy comic book thing
07:45but it's done, again
07:47in this very celebratory way
07:49that doesn't feel forced
07:51it doesn't feel kitschy, it feels
07:53really authentic and really fun to play
07:55And the release date's actually quite soon
07:57But yeah, again
07:59it's looking brilliant, it's looking smooth
08:01it feels brilliant to play
08:03Again, it's a very immersive experience
08:05I wasn't expecting and I've been very pleasantly surprised
08:07I have wildly swung
08:09from I don't think I'm ever going to play
08:11this game to I really, really want to play this game
08:13with some friends or at least one person
08:15just go through the story together, pick a character
08:17and I also think it could be
08:19quite perfect for that January
08:21blues where it's dark and cold outside
08:23and Christmas is gone
08:25I just want something fun
08:27to romp around in and jump and do some
08:29silly quips and that kind of stuff
08:31So yeah, this seems perfect, can't wait to see more
