00:00There's no need to be afraid.
00:04This animal will show us how easy it is to react.
00:12In a blink of an eye,
00:14this is what an elephant can do.
00:18An animal with a sharp shell,
00:20a long neck,
00:22a sharp tail,
00:24and a scary face.
00:28Do you know what kind of animal this is?
00:30It's not a dinosaur.
00:32It's not a crocodile.
00:34It's an alligator snapping turtle.
00:36If it bites you,
00:38and you're at the end,
00:40it might just cut your finger.
00:43Is it scary?
00:49Despite its intimidating look
00:53and its ability to cut a finger,
00:56do you know that there are people
00:58who choose to raise it as a pet?
01:03Hello, Kaaha!
01:04I'm Tito Jules.
01:06I love to raise exotic pets.
01:10Tito Jules raises
01:12the alligator snapping turtle,
01:14Dapitan.
01:15I decided to raise an alligator snapping turtle
01:18because ever since I was a kid,
01:20I've always been fascinated by turtles.
01:24I think one of my fascinations
01:27is the prehistoric looking,
01:30or the ones that look like dinosaurs.
01:32So I was drawn to the alligator snapping turtle.
01:37This turtle is the main character
01:39in Tito Jules' funny videos online.
01:46And of course,
01:47there are educational videos as well, right?
01:49Why can turtles hide their heads and feet in a shell?
01:52Alligator snapping turtles can't hide their heads.
01:55That's why their defense mechanism
01:57is very strong.
01:58That's why they bite.
01:59And that's one of the reasons
02:01why they like to be in brackish water
02:04or muddy water
02:05so that they can camouflage.
02:08It's said that turtles are only low-maintenance
02:10because they are self-sufficient
02:12and they only eat twice a week.
02:14You can give them the fish
02:16that you can buy in the market.
02:18So any fish is fine.
02:20Or sometimes, chickens.
02:22They are not high-maintenance.
02:24So I made sure that I have an ample container
02:27that is just the right container for them.
02:30But taking care of alligator snapping turtles
02:33is not for the faint-hearted.
02:36So if we're going to get it from the pond,
02:38it's important that we can see
02:40where its head is
02:41so that we know where to pick it up.
02:51Right?
02:53Alligator snapping turtles
02:55are not very demure.
02:57According to the National Wildlife Federation,
02:59their bite reaches 1,000 pounds of pressure
03:02per square inch or PSI.
03:06So that you can imagine,
03:08the bite of a lion
03:10is only 650 PSI.
03:14On the magazine website Nature Discovery,
03:17it was reported that there were cases in the United States
03:20where the entire tongue of some people was removed
03:23because of the bite of an alligator snapping turtle.
03:27If we ask Tito Jules,
03:30has he ever tried to teach his alligator snapping turtle?
