Spain's Canary and Balearic islands top the list of EU regions with 83.2 and 61.7 million nights spent in 2023 by foreign tourists, while the Greek island of Zakyinthos and Croatia's Istrian peninsula are those suffering the highest pressure compared to the number of residents.

00:11Eurostat recently released data for 2023 and Mallorca tops by far the list of EU destinations with over 47 million nights spent by foreign tourists.
00:28Second and third place go to more Spanish locations, Tenerife and Barcelona, followed by Venice, Paris and Rome.
00:40The Canary Islands is the most prominent geographical area with three destinations in the top 20, Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote, and a total of 83.2 million nights spent.
00:59But it's also one of the areas with the highest tourism pressure compared to the number of residents.
01:07The places with the highest rates of all are the Greek island of Sagintos and Croatia's Istrian Peninsula.
01:18In terms of pressure per square kilometre, Paris is highly on top, followed by Athens, Copenhagen and Munich.
