00:00The world might be talking about the 2024 presidential election like it's happening in two
00:04weeks, but for the 18 million Americans and counting who have already mailed in their ballots, voting is
00:09already over. However, there's one major issue some people are realizing they have made on those mail-in
00:14ballots, and it's rendering their voice unheard. According to the National Conference of State
00:19Legislatures, most states determine whether or not your ballot is legitimate by comparing the
00:24signature on it with the one from when you registered to vote. And if it doesn't match up,
00:28your ballot will get flagged to be reviewed or even rejected altogether. The same agency reported
00:34that of all rejected mail-in ballots, a whopping 32.8% of those that were cast out were rejected
00:39for mismatched signatures. That's 157,477 ballots. So what do you do if that happens to you? And how
00:47will you even know? Well, two-thirds of U.S. states have laws requiring them to notify you if there's
00:52an issue with your ballot, and then you can correct it. For most others, you can simply check the
00:56status of your ballot on your state's election website. Still, the overwhelming majority of
01:00ballots still get counted, with the U.S. Election Assistance Commission reporting that in 2020,
01:05some 98.8% of mail-in ballots were correctly counted, with just 0.8% having been rejected.
