More than 30 countries have expressed a desire to join BRICS, Russian President Vladimir Putin told a meeting of the group in Kazan on Wednesday (Oct 23).

Putin said the group would discuss its expansion at the meeting, while keeping in mind the need to maintain efficiency.

00:36Malaysia sent its application to join BRICS to its chairperson Russia in July this year.
00:42BRICS' share of global GDP is forecast to rise to 37 percent by the end of this decade,
00:48while the share accounted for by the group of seven major Western economies will decline
00:53to about 28 percent from 30 percent this year, according to International Monetary Fund data.
00:59The summit runs through Thursday.
