00:14in the group's summit.
00:16The event will be held in Kazan from October 22 to 24.
00:21The invitation was extended by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting between the two
00:27leaders at Vladivostok during the 9th Eastern Economic Forum on Wednesday.
00:33Anwar said the invitation was a testament of Malaysia's importance towards Russia and
00:39marked a significant step towards Malaysia's goal of joining the group.
00:44He said as Malaysia continues to expand its geoeconomic space and diversify its strategic
00:50relationships, Russia will be a key partner, and from Islamic finance and agriculture to
00:57education, the potential for Malaysia and Russia to leverage their expertise for the
01:02mutual benefit is immense.
01:06Malaysia had previously submitted an application to Russia to join BRICS in July this year.
01:12Initially made up of Brazil, Russia, India and China, BRICS was established in 2009 as

01:23It has since expanded to now consist of a total of nine countries.
01:28BRICS contributes to a quarter of the global economy, representing about 40% of the world's
01:34population.
01:35Anwar said at the meeting with Putin, he also expressed his hope for Russia to pursue a
01:40peaceful and sustainable resolution to the war with Ukraine through peace negotiation.
01:47He said they also agreed that the international community must intensify pressure to end Israel's
01:53genocide in Gaza.
