Which summer signings have stood out - and which have flopped? The Premier League Panel takes a look at this season's transfer business.

00:00Welcome back to the Premier
00:10League panel where we're looking
00:10at how some of this summer's
00:12signings are getting on.
00:13Curtis, we've been looking a lot
00:14of a lot of the success stories
00:16so far.
00:17Who's disappointed you?
00:20I think as a team Manchester
00:22United haven't had a great
00:24window again.
00:25I think you'd expect big things
00:27from Xerxe.
00:28It's hard to be too harsh because
00:31you need time to settle.
00:32Hoyland took a few months to
00:33settle and then kind of exploded
00:35into life a bit more in the
00:36second half of the year.
00:38But for £36m he hasn't looked
00:40great.
00:41He's not really looked comfortable
00:43yet in the team.
00:44And another big one was Manuel
00:46Gatti and it just doesn't seem
00:48like Ten Hag really wanted to
00:50sign him.
00:51He's not got much football.
00:52I think the only start he got was
00:54the 3-0 defeat to Tottenham.
00:56And he was £56m.
00:59They're obviously in need of a
01:00centre mid but it just doesn't
01:02seem to be getting much football
01:03at the moment.
01:05I mean when you look at
01:06Manchester United signing,
01:07you mentioned Joshua Xerxe.
01:09One of the things I sort of
01:11thought about that signing in the
01:12first place was that they seemed
01:13to have signed him to play as a
01:14No. 9 to give competition for
01:16Rasmus Hoyland up front.
01:17But he didn't play No. 9 at
01:19Bologna.
01:20He played in a much more deep
01:21lying role.
01:22He wasn't the main man spearheading
01:23the attack.
01:24Then you look a year back and you
01:25look at the way they signed Mason
01:26Mount and then sort of tried to
01:27play him as a traditional central
01:29midfielder rather than either as
01:30a No. 10 or on the left wing.
01:32Do you think they're sort of
01:33trying to sort of put square pegs
01:35in round holes I suppose?
01:36I mean what do you make of their
01:37transfer work overall?
01:40Yeah it's not, they don't look
01:42very cohesive.
01:43Like they don't seem to fit in,
01:44they don't seem to play players a
01:45lot of the time in their best
01:47roles.
01:48It all kind of seems a bit mix and
01:50match.
01:51I'm not sure what goes on with
01:52their recruitment.
01:53I just don't think it's been very
01:54good.
01:55They just prefer Ajax far too much
01:57of my liking.
01:58They just keep going back to that
01:59well that's just dry.
02:02Yeah it's a funny one because
02:04players like Matthijs de Ligt,
02:06he is a good defender.
02:07I mean you don't play for Bayern
02:08Munich and Juventus without being
02:10a good defender.
02:11You don't?
02:12Well why is he allowed to leave
02:13then?
02:14Why is he allowed to leave then?
02:15So easily every time.
02:17I mean I didn't know much about
02:18his work at Juve but I know Thomas
02:20Tuchel at Bayern Munich when he
02:21was dropping him was talking about
02:23the fact that he isn't
02:24particularly press resistant.
02:26He isn't particularly good at
02:27getting the ball upfield quickly
02:28like the traditional centre-back
02:29stuff.
02:30The heading and the clearances,
02:31the tackling.
02:32He's fine there but it's that
02:33ability to play as part of a
02:34different kind of team in terms of
02:37fitting into the tactics and the
02:38scheme.
02:39I guess I just wonder if we're
02:40going to have the same problem at
02:41Manchester United.
02:42I suppose George I mean you can
02:44carry on with Manchester United if
02:46you want but who's disappointed
02:47you?
02:48Is there anyone else that you've
02:49been frustrated by or has let you
02:51down a little bit?
02:53I just keeps United letting me
02:55down because they signed Lenny
02:57Ioro because the only reason they
02:59got him is because they paid £12
03:01million, £40 million more than
03:02anyone else wanted to pay for him.
03:04It's the only reason why they got
03:05ahead of Madrid or Liverpool.
03:06And then a report came out saying
03:08that physically his knees are
03:11really poor, really bad.
03:13They're going to crop up more.
03:15It's going to be more regular
03:16injuries across the course of his
03:17young career just because of the
03:18way he's built.
03:19He's very gangly.
03:21And he's still got that Varane
03:23build but we've seen how he
03:24struggled with injuries over the
03:25years.
03:26And I think you're going to keep
03:27seeing regular injuries with him
03:28at 19 to 18, spend all that money
03:30on him when I don't really think
03:32he's going to get, like I said
03:33with that report, I just thought
03:35it looked really ridiculous.
03:36And there's so many better options
03:37out there on the market for across
03:39all the signings they made really.
03:40He didn't have to sign Dillit.
03:42I think they just wanted to bring
03:43in a name again at the centre-back
03:45and I think Maserati's okay.
03:47I think he's probably been the
03:48most consistent out of all of them
03:50but I don't think he's set the
03:51world alight.
03:52He can play left-back or right-back.
03:53I think that's really helpful for
03:54them.
03:55And when you're saying about
03:56Square and Roundhall, it's just
03:58the signing players and again, we're
04:00going, well, they could probably do
04:01a few more players in the next
04:02window.
04:03And we've said that every window
04:04for the last four years.
04:05They could probably do a few more
04:06players when that window is meant
04:07to be the window that solved it
04:09all.
04:10And the Maserati one will always
04:11be hilarious because the only place
04:12they can play him is in Bruno's
04:13position.
04:14They don't drop Bruno.
04:15So that, again, makes no sense.
04:17And Igarte's too small for the
04:19Premier League and he got dropped
04:20by PSG after three months.
04:22So I think it's hilarious how a
04:25club like that can just continue
04:26to fail in the window again and
04:28again.
04:29And it's just, just do what
04:30Chelsea do and go and buy a
04:31Brighton scout and then I'm sure
04:32they'll be a lot better.
