00:00In his disaster risk reduction and situational huddle with his team of responders,

00:05the president sought the status of calamity damage throughout the affected regions and ordered

00:10his response teams to gin up relief efforts in the hard-hit areas and logistical support

00:15in the north where Christine is expected to hit and crosses over. PTB's Kenneth Machente reports.

00:24In the face of flooding due to rain from Typhoon Christine,

00:27President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. wants the condition of dams in the country to be closely

00:32monitored. His directive is to gradually release water from the dams in the Luzon area

00:36and do this while the dam levels are not yet at high. According to the president,

00:40torrential rains are expected as the typhoon makes landfall, which is expected tonight or

00:45tomorrow morning. But he says this should be carefully planned to ensure that no communities

00:50will be harmed by the measure. What can the downstream communities tolerate in terms of

00:56additional water? And do that and try to release that amount, just that amount.

01:15The president also gave orders for the immediate distribution of aid to affected families and

01:19individuals. Although it is currently difficult to reach some areas due to flooding, he assured

01:24that help will reach those in need.

02:10But maybe we'll have to shut that down.

02:14But in the meantime,

02:15we'll think about when we can go in with our equipment for the public works.

02:24At present, the DSWD reported that around two million family food packs have been prepositioned

02:29in affected areas, with distribution kicking off yesterday. In addition to providing aid,

02:34the president is also ensuring that rescue operations are carried out swiftly when needed.

02:39In fact, the Department of National Defense said EDCA sites are ready to be activated

02:44should international relief be required. The country's assets are also ready for

02:48potential rescue operations. The AFP is also continuing to monitor the situation so that

02:57we will be able to activate the EDCA sites which were put there specifically for this purpose.

03:03We have the available assets to answer for lift capabilities

03:08as of this time. However, in the exercise of caution, we are planning two things.

03:18To foresee the effects in the coming days and the aftermath of the disastrous convention,

03:26we are coordinating now with our ASEAN neighbors. I have already talked to our Singaporean ambassador

03:33to marshal their capabilities for airlift and other manpower assistance.

03:40The government is also making arrangements to send rubber boats to the Bicol region,

03:44which is experiencing severe flooding.

03:46As soon as we can go in, we will be doing that. And we are now beginning to marshal our assets,

03:54like for example, rubber boats. By Monday, we will get them and bring them to the area in need.

04:02On the other hand, the chief executive expressed delight over the help extended by the international

04:06community on the onslaught of the typhoon. This after the DOH reported to the president

04:12that the country has been verified to receive three international medical teams for planned

04:16deployment. Health Secretary Ted Erbosa stated that he intends to deploy a 30-man international

04:22medical team equipped with water, sanitation, and hygiene or wash facilities for outpatient care to
