00:00The president's direct orders yesterday in a Zoom meet was crystal clear.
00:04Use all government assets and resources to bring them home from Lebanon and postate.
00:10As a result, some 600 migrant workers from Lebanon are scheduled to fly out of Beirut
00:16in the next two days, as per DMW Chief Hans Leo Kakdak in this report from our Kenneth Paciente.
00:23The Department of Migrant Workers and other relevant government agencies are now focused
00:31on the situation of overseas Filipino workers affected by the conflict in Lebanon.
00:35According to DMW Secretary Hans Leo Kakdak, one of the directives from President Ferdinand R.
00:40Marquez Jr. is to utilize all government resources and assets to safely repatriate the OFWs.
00:47More than anything, it's the president's concern for our OFWs. The president has always been
00:54concerned for the welfare and security safety of our OFWs and so he deemed it the proper time to
01:01convene all of us and find ways to heighten or strengthen our approach in terms of securing
01:10the safety and security of our OFWs. Based on the latest data, 11 OFWs are
01:16set to arrive in the country this weekend. 192 OFWs have already been booked on three
01:21separate commercial flights expected to depart from October 8 to 11. Meanwhile, 413 OFWs are
01:28still in the process of having their documents processed. However, there are still Filipinos
01:33who refuse to leave Lebanon out of fear of losing their source of income. But the DMW stressed,
01:39We are already addressing or have addressed the matter on the loss of income that may
01:46incur if they come home. So the financial assistance that we're offering can go up as
01:53high as P150,000 between the DMW and OWA upon arrival. That's good for a four to six-month salary.
01:59179 OFWs are currently in shelters in Beirut where the government provides for their needs
02:05such as food. The OWA is also looking for Filipinos reportedly staying in tents.
02:10If we can identify where these reports are of OFWs staying in tents, we will go to them and
02:19bring them to our shelters. For now, the DMW is still waiting for advice from the DFA on whether
02:25the alert level in Lebanon will be raised to Level 4. If this happens, they are ready to
02:30implement mandatory repatriation. We stand ready. In fact, that might have been answered already.
02:42Your question might have been answered by the President's directives yesterday.
02:46So the President has heightened our engagement in terms of safely repatriating our OFWs out of
02:54Lebanon. So that would accommodate any situation. As of October 8, 1,721 applications have been
03:05received by the Philippine Embassy in Beirut for repatriation, 511 of which have already
03:10been repatriated. Recently, about 30 air raids were launched by Israeli warplanes in southern
03:15part of Beirut. There were no reported Filipinos who sustained injuries in these attacks by Israel.
03:21Kenneth Paciente, from the National TV Network, for a new and better Philippines.
