00:00In Los Angeles, AccuWeather is partnering with one of the nation's top children's hospitals.
00:06It's an incredible partnership and yet another way AccuWeather is helping to improve people's
00:11health, safety and comfort.
00:14AccuWeather's superior weather and environmental data is providing doctors and researchers
00:19with actionable information and insight they've never had access to before in order to best
00:24care for their patients.
00:26Dr. Jonathan Tan is an anesthesiologist with Children's Hospital Los Angeles.
00:30The hospital provides care to over 100,000 children every year.
00:34We know the climate's changing and we know through really great science that environmental
00:38exposures really impacts health.
00:40CHLA researchers are now using weather, air quality and environmental data from AccuWeather
00:45to determine how exposures to hazards like air pollution, wildfire smoke and extreme
00:50heat can affect children.
00:52Starting from just a few thousand kids, we did some great studies and now we're at the
00:56point of being able to provide air quality data to almost all the children at the Children's
01:01Hospital of Los Angeles.
01:02By using basic information, including where a patient lives or goes to school, the hospital
01:07can identify health disparities and find ways to reduce the impact of environmental exposures
01:11on children through treatment, medication and resources.
01:15On poor air quality days, we should alert our families as health care professionals
01:20that maybe we don't play outside that day, maybe we find indoor activities, maybe we
01:24find indoor activities that don't cost a lot of money for certain families.
01:28AccuWeather's superior data and unique expertise can particularly help children in California
01:33where many families are breathing in unhealthy air.
01:36Dr. Tan says AccuWeather's data will help the hospital raise money, build research and
01:40education programs and advocate for improved government policies on clean air.
01:45It can make a huge difference.
01:47Prevention is everything.
01:48It's all about heading things off.
01:50We're really great at treating diseases, but we want to be really great at prevention.
01:54Prevention starts with education, it starts with communication and it starts with heading
01:59off all the diseases that develop after years of exposure.
02:03AccuWeather hopes to expand this work in the future.
02:06While the next generation is going to face even bigger challenges from air quality, extreme
02:11weather and climate change, here at AccuWeather we're proud to help doctors and researchers
02:16in this big step to revolutionize and improve health care for children.
02:20Saving lives, helping people best optimize their health, safety and comfort, that's part
02:25of our DNA here at AccuWeather.
02:28For AccuWeather, I'm Ariella Scalise.
