00:00Retired U.S. four-star general John Kelly, who formerly served as White House Chief of Staff
00:05under Donald Trump, recently recounted a story about the former president,
00:09in which he reportedly praised Nazi leader Adolf Hitler and in particular his loyal generals.
00:14Now Republican Tennessee Senator Bill Hagerty has come out defending the
00:18current GOP presidential candidate, saying he's taking the comments with a grain of salt.
00:23In a recent interview on CNN, Hagerty told interviewers,
00:26I worked both with General Kelly and President Trump in the last administration,
00:30and it was not a good fit. General Kelly's been on record many times criticizing President Trump.
00:35Obviously he doesn't like President Trump.
00:37Hagerty then said that comparing Trump to Hitler was dangerous,
00:40to which interviewer John Berman added, quote,
00:43Bring that up with J.D. Vance, who apparently said that in a text message,
00:47which he doesn't deny some years ago.
00:49Hagerty continued to suggest that the whole Hitler thing was a lie,
00:52as Donald Trump and General Kelly did not get along.
00:55Berman then asked Senator Hagerty if General Kelly had ever lied to him,
00:58to which he replied in the negative.
01:00Democratic nominee Kamala Harris has since called Kelly's comments a, quote,
01:04911 call to the American people, adding that she believes Donald Trump is a fascist.
