00:00live right here on this Thursday on the early line on SportsGrid. It is the eve of the 2024
00:09Fall Classic. The World Series starts tomorrow night finally out at the Ravine in Los Angeles
00:15between two of the most iconic brands in all of baseball. It's the Dodgers and the Yankees.
00:21Mark Zinno has been here with us throughout all of this MLB season and oftentimes would
00:26bemoan his proud Yankees organization struggling or not looking what they should be as an AL
00:34pennant favorite and a World Series front runner. Well Mark Zinno, they did exactly that. They won
00:40their first pennant in 15 years. They are playing in the World Series for the first time since their
00:45last World Series championship in 2009. So how do you feel now? Are you filled with jubilation
00:52to see your Yankees play in a World Series once again? Yeah I mean again I would be lying if I
00:59said I wasn't a detractor that they would actually be here. I'm kind of surprised that they are and
01:03they're probably doing so you know in spite of Aaron Boone being their manager as opposed to
01:09in favor of it but that's a whole different conversation with my thoughts on Aaron Boone.
01:13Beyond that look when you have guys getting two outbase hits like Juan Soto and Giancarlo Stanton
01:18you're going to be in great position. I tell my kids several things in life. Do your homework,
01:22eat your vegetables, cover the number and two outbase hits win World Series. That's parenting
01:26for me and they understand that. So if you get two outbase hits you're going to win a lot of
01:29World Series. If they do it now they'll do it again. I do I think it's going to be a great
01:34series because you see that price point at minus 122 for the Dodgers but there's a way I'm probably
01:38betting this series also. I'm not really big on saying all right I think the Yankees can win the
01:42series so I'll take the plus 104. I'll tell you right now game number one that we're going to
01:46have with Gary Cole in the mound he's getting about what plus 108 to plus 110 bouncing around
01:50on the fan dual sports book. They don't win game number one not winning the World Series. So a
01:53better price in game number one and also a Yankees team total for me in game number one over three
01:58and a half makes a lot of sense even though it's used. You have a chance to jump on Flaherty but
02:01if we're talking about jumping on Flaherty and guys that got to get base hits give me your thoughts
02:06you're coming into the series with Aaron Judge. A five to one price to be the MVP but even though
02:10but not even looking forward to him to be the MVP he's got to step up like we can't have him back
02:15190 to 210 in the World Series sooner than later that MVP has to show more.
02:20You'd like to think so. I mean thankfully he did get off the snot and hit a homer against Cleveland
02:24so at least he's done it to this point. I mean eventually you're hoping someone's going to make
02:30a mistake and he's going to walk into a fastball and deposit it in the right field seats. I mean
02:34he's always the threat right and look if you're writing a book against the Yankees in the playoffs
02:39every manager is going to tell you just don't let 99 beat you. Now we know what Soto and Stanton have
02:43done you know but you've got that that that heart of the order right there to get through that's
02:48nearly impossible because each guy is setting them up with with Judge sandwiched between Stanton and
02:53Soto. It certainly means they'll see some decent pitches to hit so yes I agree he's got to step up
02:58in game one DRS. Very simply for me I'm backing the Yankees on the first five plus a half run I
03:04don't care if it's juiced up close to 150 I'm taking it anyway because Derek Cole's got a 249
03:10on the road his K-9 is up his strikeout to walk ratio is better than it is at home and oh by the
03:16way opposing hitters are only batting a buck 98 off of him. Flaherty's ERA in the postseason
03:21is over 7 and 13 starts with the Dodgers he's given up at least three earned runs
03:25in those 13 starts here. The Yankees will get to Flaherty give me that but I'll give you one
03:30more real quick for game one. Garrett Cole struggles with two guys in this Dodgers lineup
03:35Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts who's batting 412 off him with a 915 OPS. Give me
03:40Mookie Betts over one and a half total bases as a prop in game one. Mark Zinno giving out plays
03:46for tomorrow night's opener in the World Series to your point about Jack Flaherty has started
03:50three games for the Dodgers throughout this postseason one against the Padres two against
03:55the Mets in the uh first game against New York in the series opener the NLCS he was sensational
04:02seven innings of shutout baseball only two hits but in the other two to bookend it he gave up eight
04:07earned runs to the Mets in game number five he gave up four earned runs to the Padres early on
04:14in the NLDS as well so Mark Zinno back to the outright numbers and everything that we are seeing
04:20for the World Series your official 2024 fall classic prediction is what who wins a World
04:27Series championship and in how many games I'd love to believe it's Yankees in six um you know
04:35that's part my heart but also part just to you know the idea that you're getting the Yankees
04:39as an underdog price is pretty hard to refuse I mean given it is the Yankees and the Dodgers
04:44two biggest favorites you're going to see anywhere in the sport of baseball but I think the Yankees
04:48have a major edge in starting pitching and that's really what it boils down to if if the Yankees
04:52could get to the Cleveland bullpen they certainly can get the Dodgers you know as long as they're
04:57getting those clutch base hits and as long as Aaron Boone doesn't screw up the bullpen management
05:01which he's want to do at times um you know the Yankees I think have the decided edge
05:07they just got to get around the big bats in the Dodgers lineup if they can do that
05:10I think they win this thing in six including perhaps our guy Luis don't you dare call him
05:16seal 400 to 1 to win the World Series MVP Mark Zinno we appreciate it Howard please okay
05:24the last time on the early line that before the fall classic begins Craig Misch will preview
05:30the 2024 World Series live on this Thursday on TEL we welcome in the host of Newswire starts
05:37at 11 a.m eastern time and our MLB insider Craig Misch a preview of the 2024 World Series once
05:45again on the eve of the fall classic Craig it's been a long wait right it's been nearly a week
05:52since the NLCS had been determined on a Sunday night at the ravine finally tomorrow to downtown
05:59LA we go once again for the start of the World Series excitement level I would expect for you
06:04breaks the meter it's at an 11 out of 10 I look I honestly can't wait I do I do love this matchup
06:11I love the fact that the two best teams are going to face off the big markets look you can't get a
06:17World Series matchup perfect every year but I think this has happened this year and for all
06:22the complaining that has been in the years past for just some lucky team getting to the postseason
06:26and winning the World Series it is kind of refreshing to see a dynasty every once in a
06:31while with teams that have won a lot of World Series I'm totally good with this matchup
06:35the two top seeds in each playoff bracket the two iconic brands face off in a World Series
06:41for a 12th time but the first time in a very long time at the ravine starting tomorrow night
06:48so let's round them all once again with Craig Misch it is time for the Daily Bases
06:56gotta be right missed opportunity final Daily Bases before the World Series start
07:02not to get a leasy Craig anyway Craig we looked at the odds you and I together on Tuesday morning
07:09it is expected to be close is expected to be competitive the Dodgers a slight favorite outright
07:14to win the World Series at minus 122 overall the total games five and a half the over has the
07:22hefty juice at minus 180 Craig I asked for an official World Series prediction on Tuesday
07:27we didn't necessarily get it have you hammered down your official prediction who wins and in how
07:33many games yeah it's really tough I think that it honestly is a coin flip for me I gave out
07:40something the other day that I do think is viable and you know somebody was actually you know
07:45telling me I don't know if it's on social media whatever well if you're going to pick the Yankees
07:48to go two to one in the first three games I mean what do you think all of a sudden the Dodgers
07:53are just going to come back roaring and win the series so uh boy despite what I really want to do
07:59uh I think I will say that the Yankees will win the World Series in six games and again it's only
08:04because of the guy they have pitching in game one I do think that gives them a major advantage and
08:10I think that you're getting ready we're getting ready here to see something that we haven't seen
08:14in a while I'm gonna guess that this is Madison Bumgarner-esque with Garrett Cole I think he's
08:19gonna pitch several times in this series I mean he is the biggest x-factor going Yamamoto while
08:26by the way while Yamamoto may be better than Cole I mean it's you never know I mean it could happen
08:31health-wise he's not I mean he hasn't been healthy the entire season uh Cole has I see him pitching
08:37three times in this series and I think the Yankees will win I'm excited for this matchup Craig again
08:43we're talking a lot of baseball on a Thursday for a Friday game because I don't think the early line
08:47actually airs on Fridays that could be wrong so I'm glad we're getting all of our picks and fun
08:51as much fun as we have yeah I'm not too sure on Friday if it does but if we're talking about here
08:56Craig's not here one guy yes do that yeah I usually am here Fridays I'm here Friday so I
09:02have none of that air has aired for the last 27 weeks so we'll see you tomorrow
09:09no one talks to me I just talk I just talk to the camera in a black screen but I thought it
09:14aired somewhere man just hold them just hold them back at this point MVPs Craig you're certainly
09:19the MVP of this segment no doubt about it Shoya Itani Aaron Judge Juan Soto or a Tommy Edmund
09:25Price at 33 to 1 the guy knows how to win MVPs here yeah nah I mean if I'm gonna take the Yankees
09:32reluctantly then you know I gotta take the Yankee here so it would be uh it would be Soto you know
09:37for me I look Soto rose to the biggest moment thus far for the Yankees in the postseason
09:42but let's not rule out Garrett Cole again I just said that I think he'll pitch three times
09:47I've seen this happening so many teams when they win the World Series in six or seven games you
09:50see that one starter coming in at the bullpen to finish games and stuff I just like like when I
09:55close my eyes and I picture how it ends it's like I see Cole pitching the ninth or something like
09:59that in like game six and so I don't want to leave that out here but is he nowhere on the board here
10:06that's interesting pitchers not allowed in the top 10 at the yeah he's not in the top 10
10:12at the very least again Craig's World Series prediction Yankees in six you know how hard
10:18that must have been for him to offer up you see it there four games to two at plus 600.
10:25Craig yesterday I don't think the early line aired either at least I wasn't here
10:29the public poll that's ready to be here who who is it nothing like an Australian
10:35bloke breaking down baseball but the public poll yeah it was ugly that was ugly we're getting off
10:41the rails let's bring it back in yesterday we were asked the fade the public poll who was under the
10:47most pressure Craig in the World Series New York's Aaron Judge or LA's Shohei Otani and in a landslide
10:55it was Aaron Judge despite what our protected producer Joe Frizo tried to reply to the fade
11:02the public poll I ask you the same question Craig Mish who was under more pressure entering
11:08the fall classic is it Judge or Otani I thought I saw you walking around New York City asking
11:14this question Ben I wasn't you somebody else okay yeah there's always there's always more
11:20pressure on the Yankees and in every single scenario like Dodgers are down oh one in the
11:24series everyone will be like all right they'll come back Yankees are down oh one got a fire
11:28balloon you know you know how that goes so yeah I mean easy easy open and shut case here always
11:32more pressure on the Yankees if we are looking at game number one I'm like just handicapping the
11:37series itself I actually don't see a way that the Yankees could win this series without winning that
11:42Garrett Cole start in game number one and they're the underdog in that game so if we are looking at
11:46game number one I also like a team total over three and a half for the Yankees I just see it
11:50playing out that way this is a must win game for the Yankees and I think gold's going to provide
11:53that yeah it look I mean Donnie in terms of of what you're saying I think it's accurate the one
11:59thing that I would say is I think you throw out like any kind of home field advantage you look
12:03at the last 10 years of the World Series it doesn't matter so it doesn't matter where they're
12:07playing it's just a better team I would also say tonight and again I'm playing little narrative
12:12street here look for that first inning for the Dodgers to be extremely fired up with what they're
12:19going to do for Fernando Valenzuela at the beginning of this game I know I'm playing that
12:24card here guys I do think it's going to be a really emotional start to the game for the Dodgers
12:30look for that early on if the Yankees can survive that. Garrett Cole 1-0 this postseason with a 3-3-1
12:37ERA eight and a half the total the Dodgers have had a lot of offense throughout this postseason
12:43Craig I guess
