00:00The DSWD procures and stockpiles the relief items in bulk in their warehouses for calamity distribution,
00:06but these items have to be packed in sets of hundreds of thousands, even millions,
00:11before they can be shipped and handled for pre-positioning to their intended locations.
00:15Hence, the DSWD is pleading mayday for several thousand pairs of hands to help repack these relief bags
00:21and get them out of the warehouse for immediate distribution, as we hear more from our Noel Palacay.
00:28The Department of Social Welfare and Development, or DSWD, is calling for more volunteers
00:35who can help the agency in repacking the family food packs at the National Resource Operations Center.
00:42A statement from Leo Quintana, Agency's Special Assistant to the Secretary for Disaster Response and Management Group,
00:51during their weekly news forum.
00:53We are continuously calling for volunteers because right now we are doing the repacking of our FEPs
01:01at our National Resource Operations Center here in Chapel Road, Pasay.
01:08He said, most of their volunteers are students, some are individuals under the Cash for Work programs of DSWD.
01:18For those who are interested to be part of this humanitarian activity,
01:22they can just proceed to the National Resource Operations Center in Pasay City.
01:28We can proceed to Enrock, Chapel Road, Pasay, and our staff will accommodate.
01:36Quintana stressed, all volunteers undergo a 20-minute orientation,
01:42so they have ideas of what to do inside the National Resource Operations Center.
01:48They will also be oriented on personnel or individual safety.
02:03Meanwhile, the agency is now coordinating with the National Food Authority, or NFA,
02:08to ensure there will be enough rice to be distributed.
02:12Recently, Quintana said that the agency has now 36,000 bags with 50 kilos rice each from Region 3 provided with NFA.
02:24For another request, NFA, maraming salamat that we are now referred to Region 3 na naman.
02:31Ito po yung support ng NFA sa operation ng DSWD.
02:35According to the DSWD, each family food pack has 6 kilos of rice apart from coffee,
02:42and a variety of canned food, enough for a family of five.
02:47The Department of Social Welfare and Development will use all mode of transportation
02:53to ensure that all the affected families by Typhoon Christine will get help from the government.
