00:00Pizza that looks like used toilet paper and inventing a take-out puke box.
00:05Gordon Ramsay tastes his fair share of bad food, but there's some that he straight-up
00:09just can't eat.
00:12Pizza is one of the most popular foods in America, but favorite pizza toppings vary
00:16from person to person.
00:18And one of the most hotly debated pizza toppings is pineapple.
00:21This debate has raged on for years now, with people arguing whether the topping should
00:25actually go on pizza or not.
00:28Because he is highly opinionated, especially when it comes to food, Gordon Ramsay has shared
00:32his take on whether pineapple belongs on pizza multiple times.
00:36In 2017, while hosting his one-season talk show The Nightly Show, the chef ordered pizza.
00:41He asked the audience for flavor suggestions while ordering pizza, and he was not pleased
00:45with one of the responses.
00:46How many pepperoni, chef?
00:47You don't put f-----g pineapple on pizza.
00:52Ramsay must fancy himself a pizza aficionado because he has a chain of pizzerias called
00:56Street Pizza.
00:58The website describes the restaurants by saying Street Pizza restaurants embody pizza without
01:02rules.
01:03Apparently, it does not follow Ramsay's rule about pineapple on pizza, because it sells
01:08a ham and pineapple option.
01:11So it seems that Ramsay won't eat a pineapple pizza, but he will make some money off of
01:15one.
01:16If you've taken a long enough flight, you've likely experienced the atrocity that is airplane
01:21food.
01:22Plane food is typically a reheated meal that has a rubbery texture, but since our options
01:26are pretty limited while we're flying through the air, most of us make do and suffer through
01:30it.
01:31However, Gordon Ramsay absolutely refuses to eat plane food.
01:36As Ramsay told Refinery29 in an interview,
01:38"...there's no f-----g way I eat on planes.
01:42I worked for airlines for 10 years, so I know where this food's been and where it goes,
01:47and how long it took before it got on board."
01:49Instead, Ramsay likes to eat prior to boarding and have something like Italian meats, red
01:54wine, fruits, and cheese.
01:56Ramsay isn't the only one who's against eating plane food.
01:59Reader's Digest noted that we should all avoid eating on planes if we can.
02:03Apparently, it can make jet lag even worse.
02:06If you want to avoid that, follow Ramsay to a nice Italian place prior to boarding.
02:11In addition to his refined taste, Gordon Ramsay is perhaps even more well-known for his intensity
02:16in the kitchen.
02:17Ramsay puts his temper on full display in Hell's Kitchen, where he regularly berates
02:21the chefs who present dishes to him.
02:23In one episode, he came across a food pairing he had never heard of and, quite frankly,
02:28had no time for.
02:29When one cook brought him a dish of chicken and blackberries, Ramsay promptly asked where
02:34the idea came from, to which the cook shared that it was a dish she prepared while working
02:38at her corporate dining job.
02:40That's definitely corporate.
02:43You serve, they eat.
02:45Yes, chef.
02:46Straight after, they vomit.
02:48Yes, chef.
02:49Ramsay isn't totally against either aspect of the dish, as he's got plenty of chicken
02:52recipes and serves his famous beef wellington with a blackberry sauce.
02:57Just don't combine the two when he's around.
02:59Gordon Ramsay's career has taken him all over the world, and in Gordon Ramsay Uncharted,
03:04his television series with National Geographic, the chef has traveled to remote places like
03:08the Sacred Valley of Peru and mountains in Morocco to learn what the people who inhabit
03:13those areas eat.
03:14In one episode, the people he visited cooked bugs for Ramsay.
03:18Before serving Ramsay some, one man told him,
03:20"...this has a lot of protein.
03:22If you eat it, you won't be hungry all day."
03:26Ramsay must not have cared about the amount of protein in the bugs, because he couldn't
03:29handle eating the food and spat it out, saying,
03:31"...it's like a crispy cockroach."
03:34The people were right about one thing, though.
03:36Bugs are a great source of protein.
03:38Per the Food Science of Animal Resources, the average protein content of an edible insect
03:43is higher than the protein content of plant-based sources like cereal, soybeans, and lentils.
03:49And some insects are even higher in protein than meat and chicken eggs.
03:52Though eating bugs is not a common practice in the United States, many people in other
03:56parts of the world, like Asia and Africa, eat bugs on a regular basis.
04:01Gordon Ramsay has long been passionately against plant-based food.
04:04In 2007, he famously told the Mirror,
04:07"...my biggest nightmare would be if the kids ever came up to me and said, Dad, I'm a vegetarian.
04:12Then I would sit them on the fence and electrocute them."
04:16But over time, Ramsay's attitude towards vegetarianism and even veganism has changed.
04:21However, there was one vegetarian meal that he could not stomach, and that was a carrot
04:26gratin on an episode of Kitchen Nightmares.
04:29Even before his change in opinion, Ramsay wasn't fully against vegetarian dishes, if
04:33they were done properly.
04:35Unfortunately, the carrot gratin did not have what Ramsay was looking for, and he spat it
04:40out before swallowing it, saying of the dish,
04:42"...it's almost a bit of an insult to a vegetarian."
04:46Over a decade after proclaiming a vegetarian child was his worst nightmare, Ramsay is more
04:51than willing to eat plant-based foods.
04:53In fact, he's even said on an episode of MasterChef,
04:56"...after all these years, I can finally admit that I actually love vegan food."
05:04Wow.
05:05In another episode of Kitchen Nightmares, Gordon Ramsay was fed the restaurant's Fisherman's
05:09Platter, which consisted of scallops, flounder, and shrimp.
05:12And Ramsay was not a fan.
05:15The waiter stood watch, and when she saw him spit the food out, she returned to ask his
05:19opinion, and he didn't hold back.
05:21"...not good, chef."
05:23"...soft, bland, rubbery.
05:25I didn't realize it could be this bad.
05:28Thank you."
05:29"...okay."
05:30Other dishes he tried at the restaurant included French onion soup and shepherd's pie.
05:33And though Ramsay didn't like either dish, he did manage to swallow both.
05:37One of the owners took Ramsay's opinion particularly hard, saying,
05:41"...you're here 16 years, so you think your food is decent?
05:45To hear otherwise, it's kind of shocking."
05:47If you'd like to try some fish that Ramsay does like, you can try one of his chain restaurants,
05:52Gordon Ramsay Fish and Chips.
05:55There are multiple locations across the United States, and the menu features cod, lobster,
05:59shrimp, and more prepared in fashions that we imagine Ramsay will not spit out.
06:04In addition to knowing good food, Gordon Ramsay has made himself an expert on all things luxury,
06:09and he aired his opinions on the television show Hotel Hell.
06:12The show was only broadcast for three seasons, but while it was on the air, Ramsay visited
06:16different hotels to advise changes meant to improve their operations.
06:21In one episode, Ramsay arrived at his room and almost immediately ordered room service
06:25to judge the quality of the food.
06:27When it arrived, Ramsay's first complaint was the packaging of the food, being confused
06:31as to why it came in a takeout box.
06:33Nevertheless, Ramsay continued eating.
06:36After pouring his soup out of a takeout box and into a porcelain cup, Ramsay tried the
06:40chicken parmesan slider, and promptly spat it back out into the takeout box, saying,
06:46"...that's dreadful.
06:47Ah, f**k me.
06:48Now I know why they got the boxes.
06:53It's a takeaway puke box."
06:54This episode was filmed in 2012 at the Keating Hotel in San Diego, California, and per Yelp,
06:59the establishment is now closed.
07:02Gordon Ramsay is known for his television projects, but he'll use any medium he can
07:06to critique another cook's work.
07:09Ramsay has over 34 million followers on TikTok, and he uses his profile to duet videos and
07:14offer his unsolicited opinions on random users' food.
07:18Some of his harshest critiques have been on foods one might deem creative, like a Cheeto-covered
07:23steak.
07:24But his aversion to overly creative foods long predates the video-sharing app.
07:29On the same episode of Hotel Hell, featuring Gordon's newly patented takeaway puke box,
07:35Ramsay ate at a restaurant called Merck, a short walk away from the hotel.
07:39For dessert, he was served bacon and chocolate pizza, which did not appetize him.
07:44It's like we've had a crisis with the toilet paper department, someone's wiped their ass
07:47with my dough.
07:49After taking a bite, Ramsay let his actions speak for themselves by spitting it out to
07:53show his distaste for the culinary concoction.
07:57Even Ramsay is very specific about spices, and that includes salt.
08:01Salt is a kitchen staple, but it shouldn't be overused, especially around Ramsay, who
08:05is very sensitive to food that's too salty.
08:08In one episode of Hell's Kitchen, Ramsay proved just how much he hates food with too much
08:13salt.
08:14After trying a dish of macaroni and cheese, Ramsay spat out the noodles and called all
08:17of his kitchen staff to gather around.
08:20He had every cook taste the dish so they could see why he was disgusted.
08:25Most cooks agreed with Ramsay that the dish was far too salty, and the chef was determined
08:28to discover who had made the error.
08:31One cook, Michelle, admitted to adding some extra salt, and as a result, another chef
08:35had to prepare a new batch.
08:37Michelle apparently had a habit of over-salting her food.
08:40In another episode that same season, the cook put too much salt in a spinach dish.
08:44Although Ramsay didn't try the dish himself, another member of his kitchen had clearly
08:48taken cues from the chef and yelled at Michelle for her mistake.
08:51Having things over-salted so much that someone else yells at the person responsible, that's
08:56a strong hatred.
08:58Although Gordon Ramsay spits out a lot of the food he tastes, we do have to give him
09:01credit for at least trying the dishes.
09:04Whether he is eating disgusting food on a late-night television show segment or putting
09:08food in his mouth that we wouldn't want to eat ourselves, the man is not afraid to try
09:12terrible things.
09:14He has, however, shared that there are some foods he just will not eat.
09:18For example, Ramsay said on Reddit that he drew the line at eating overcooked food, but
09:22apparently the line was redrawn when he told Bon Appetit that he wouldn't eat any kind
09:27of ready-made frozen food.
09:29Ramsay explained his decision by saying,
09:31"...it's so easy to prepare a quick meal using fresh produce, such as a simple stir-fry.
09:36But people still resort to ready meals that all taste exactly the same."
09:40Viewers saw Ramsay's disdain for frozen meals in an episode of Kitchen Nightmares.
09:45After rummaging through the restaurant's freezers and finding copious amounts of pre-made
09:49frozen food, Ramsay was incensed.
09:52"...it's just absolutely appalling.
09:54This is not a restaurant.
09:57You are mad."
09:59One of Gordon Ramsay's best traits is his honesty.
10:02He never holds back.
10:04On an episode of Kitchen Nightmares, Ramsay was fed a seafood crepe, and in his regular
10:08fashion he shared his exact thoughts on the dish, saying,
10:13"...that is hideous.
10:16It's hot in parts, like in the middle, but on the side it's stone cold."
10:20The waiter returned to take the food away after seeing Ramsay wasn't pleased, and the
10:24famous chef took the opportunity to ask an important question.
10:27"...is the oven not working?"
10:29Unfortunately for the restaurant, the oven was working just fine.
10:33The head chef's dishes?
10:34Not so much.
10:35We're guessing that the next time Ramsay is going to eat a crepe, it'll be his own recipe.
