00:00For the update on the rescue operations in the area of Baguio-Christine, we will talk to Commodore Aljirica Frente, spokesperson of the Philippine Coast Guard. Good morning.
00:10Good morning to you and good morning to the listeners.
00:15Where are your rescue operations focused right now?
00:20Our rescue operations right now are focused in the Philippine Coast Guard area and in the Northeastern Luzon and Northwestern Luzon
00:30because we know that this is the area that was hit by the typhoon and flooded.
00:39Are there still other areas that were affected by the typhoon?
00:46According to the Philippine Coast Guard, although this is not the main function of the Coast Guard,
00:53we are under the jurisdiction of the local government.
00:57The deployment depends on the priority areas that we are giving.
01:04But there are areas in the area of Gicol, especially in Caloog, Nohova, that we have not yet entered and it will be in the Northern Luzon.
01:15Aside from rubber boats, there are people who want to borrow boats, Commodore.
01:22That's a good thing. To help us, they can also show that to the local government so they can use other volunteers there
01:35and to our fellow countrymen, even if they are in Lantana.
01:41We know that our fellow countrymen are still willing to help.
01:46In your initial report, how many of our fellow countrymen are still in Bubungan or in their homes that need rescue?
01:58In the Philippine Coast Guard, we don't have that data.
02:02We don't have that data in the local government.
02:05But based on our report, as of 4 a.m. earlier, in Gicol alone,
02:14more than 117,000 were rescued, evacuated and brought to safe areas with the help of the effort of the local government and other agencies,
02:30including the Philippine Coast Guard.
02:32What can we explain to them as to why the rescue is taking so long because of the flood?
02:38Maybe our rescue teams in Commodore are also involved.
02:43Because of the magnitude of the flood, especially the unprecedented areas that were not flooded before,
02:52only in the Philippine Coast Guard side, our forces will come from coastal areas.
02:59The Philippine Coast Guard will come from coastal areas.
03:01The local government will come from inland areas.
03:05So their concentration is on the nearest areas that can be rescued.
03:11That's what we are prioritizing.
03:13We will come from those areas.
03:16Commodore Caprente, aside from Naga, are there other areas that we are involved in to provide rescue and help to them?
03:28The Philippine Coast Guard has stations in each coastal municipality.
03:36That's why our Philippine Coast Guard is there.
03:39Our forces are connected to their local government.
03:44That's why our help is concentrated on those areas that are affected.
03:53We will come from distant areas.
03:56If we can get help from nearby areas, we can get more immediately.
04:01Our priority is nearby areas.
04:03We cannot go inland yet.
04:07Yes. Be careful our fellow Philippine Coast Guards.
04:10Thank you PCG Spokesperson Commodore Alguirre Caprente.
04:14Be careful.
04:15Thank you. Good morning.
