00:00An influencer finds himself in grave danger in the psychological thriller Die Before You Die,
00:05directed by Dan Pringle.
00:07Ziad Abaza is a struggling YouTuber who's trying to restore his reputation by engaging in a stunt,
00:13burying himself six feet underground as part of a religious ceremony.
00:17But as the days pass, Abaza worries that no one is coming to help him.
00:22Abaza, who is also the film's co-writer,
00:24does a convincing job portraying the self-absorbed YouTuber,
00:27who, even before he's buried, is split between his obnoxious bragging screen persona
00:32and his deeply insecure real personality.
00:35The closest comparison is naturally Ryan Reynolds' bury,
00:38but this goes in a very different spiritualist direction.
00:41Much of the film is Abaza debating with his inner monologue,
00:44wrestling with his ego and paranoia,
00:46represented by his daughter's toy monkey that he's brought with him.
00:49It's certainly ambitious to try and do something that's so internalised,
00:53especially on such a limited budget,
00:55and Die Before You Die stands out because it's so thoughtful about existentialism.
