A cultural event in Teluk Intan, Perak where Chinese flags were publicly displayed has violated conditions under the Peaceful Assembly Act.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Azizi Mat Aris stated that the procession, which included religious elements and several floats, took place from 8pm to 11.30pm on Thursday (Oct 24).

00:16a permit for the procession, and they had called up the organiser to record a statement.
00:23He said the organiser will be required to get the foreign participants to come forward
00:28to facilitate police investigation.
00:30The Hilir Perak Police received a report on the procession at about 12.40am.
00:36Pasatuan Kebudayaan Gwangong Chairman Soon Boon Hwa apologised to Malaysians over the
00:41incident that happened during the Gwangong Festival that promoted the global spirit of
00:47deified ancient Chinese soldier Guan Yu.
00:50He said the flags were raised by delegates from China and not Malaysians, and the act
00:55was not part of the programme during the festival, which was held in a peaceful and
00:59orderly manner.
01:01He said the festival had been held for many years now, and this year's event would be
01:05held in other states, including Johor, Kedah and Melaka.
01:09He said the organiser and participants would also display Malaysian flags to show their
01:14patriotism, and the programme in Teluk Intan was no exception.
01:20He said the organiser will review all aspects of the event and improve on them.
01:25Meanwhile, Perak Exco Wuka Leong denied remarks issued by the opposition, saying that neither
01:32he nor housing and local government minister Ngakor Ming were present at the event.
