00:10In an interview with Radio Veritas, he attributes the floods to quarrying and
00:14other environmentally destructive activities. Bailon says, we cannot deny that this is part
00:20of the relentless destruction of the mountains here.
00:23In January, Albay Governor Edsel Greco-Lagman ordered a probe into illegal quarrying in the
00:28province. The Diocese of Legazpi, led by Bailon, has consistently sounded the alarm on the
00:33destruction of nature. Bailon also appeals for prayers and aid for flood victims.
00:39Albay is one of the worst-hit provinces by severe tropical storm Christine,
00:43international name Trami. More than 224,000 people are affected in Albay, out of a total
00:49of 1.67 million affected people in Bicol as of Thursday morning, October 24.
