00:00Generation Green 2 is a year-long government-funded project for schools in socially disadvantaged areas,
00:07which now has approximately 800 pupils from the North East to visit the Northumberland coast.
00:12Bridie Melkertz from Mudlarks Outdoors, who led sessions in Almouth, said for some children it was their first ever trip to the sea.
00:20Funding for Generation Green 2 has been provided by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs,
00:27and it covers the cost of the sessions for children, as well as their bus fares, to allow schools to partake in these days out.
00:34The project is said to cost £4.5 million that connects more than 25,000 young people to nature and rural life.
00:41Research shows that people who are more connected with nature are usually more likely to feel like their lives are worthwhile,
00:47and while many children choose not to go outdoors, the founders of this project hope it will connect more children to this feeling
00:54and allow them to experience beautiful rural places that they'd otherwise not have access to.
