00:00This year, Transport for London is rolling out a range of exciting updates across the city's transport network.
00:08From new infrastructure projects to service enhancements, TfL is aiming to make travel easier, faster and more sustainable.
00:16These changes are designed to improve everything from bus routes to tube lines, ensuring a more efficient experience for Londoners and visitors as well.
00:25One key project is the upgrade of the Elephant and Castle tube station designed to support the regeneration of the area, which will bring in over 10,000 new homes and 5,000 jobs.
00:36Initial works are underway with tunnelling set to start in 2025.
00:41The project will increase station capacity by over 30%, creating more space for passengers and services.
00:48A new entrance will also be built at the heart of Elephant and Castle town centre, with escalators and lifts offering step-free access to the Northern Line platform.
00:58Work is also continuing on HS2, connecting London with the Midlands by 2033.
01:04TfL is working closely with HS2 Ltd to support new infrastructure in London.
01:10HS2 services will terminate at an expanded Euston station and a new station at Old Oak Common for easy connections to the Elizabeth Line, Great Western Main Line and local buses.
01:22And the Piccadilly Line is undergoing a £2.9 billion investment programme to improve reliability and capacity.
01:29New trains, which will begin service in 2025, will replace trains from 1975.
01:35The new fleet includes air conditioning, wider doorways, improved step-free access and on-train CCZV for added security.
01:44The new trains will also increase the number of services through central London, with up to 27 trains per hour during peak times.
01:53Time will tell if Transport for London can deliver on those promises for 2025, but TfL are not alone when it comes to transport updates.
02:03According to the government website, driverless cars could be on the roads by 2026.
02:09Driverless taxis are the range in California and are being introduced in Germany, but would Londoners ever get in one?
02:34Yeah.
02:48It was actually cheaper than like Uber, like the regular Uber was, I guess because they don't have to pay anyone.
02:53And it was cool, it was kind of crazy because it's like, it just drives for you, it talks to you.
02:57You can like still like pick your music on like a little screen and everything.
