Watch the video to learn the tragic details about TimTheTatman.
Transcript
00:00TimTheTatman generally tries to promote a positive atmosphere on his channel, allowing
00:05him to foster a community with whom he has become comfortable.
00:09Perhaps that's why he's been able to open up to his audience about a few of the more
00:12tragic details in his past.
00:15It's easy to think of streamers and other gaming content creators as people who just
00:19get paid to play video games.
00:20It's a regular comment you see pop up from viewers when they see their favorite content
00:24creators talking about needing time off.
00:27TimTheTatman got a bit emotional during a stream when he was attempting to explain that,
00:31while it may appear this way from the outside, it simply isn't the case.
00:36In fact, occasional time off is the only reason he's been able to perform consistently over
00:40the years.
00:41Me taking those breaks has made me able to stream for, this is now, nine years."
00:49Tim argued that, quote, "...burnout is a real thing in Twitch streaming and content creation."
00:54He talked about his time working in landscaping, and explained that he knows what it's like
00:58to work 40 to 60 hours a week doing hard labor.
01:01"'If you do physical labor, I feel for you, man.
01:04It's not an easy thing.
01:06Flip side of that, where I'm at now, this is a hard job in its own right.'"
01:11Tim argued that having time to spend with his family is his top priority, getting visibly
01:15emotional and wiping tears away from his eyes.
01:18"'I'm thinking about my son, wanting to spend time with him,' Tim said.
01:22That's kind of the bottom line."
01:24Tim the Tap Man has talked a lot about the different jobs he's held down over the years,
01:29but there was one Twitch stream where he talked about a job he didn't get, working at Taco
01:33Bell.
01:34He opened the conversation in defense of the fast food restaurant, saying,
01:37"'Do not disrespect Taco Bell, alright?
01:40I love Taco Bell.'"
01:41However, the sentiment quickly turned sour when the mention of the restaurant chain reminded
01:46him of a time when he was down on his luck.
01:48In a both tragic and hilarious confession, Tim began by claiming that if Taco Bell were
01:53ever to approach the inked-up streamer to do a promotion,
01:56"...there is a part of me that is tempted to say, you're not qualified.
02:01Because I was not qualified when I was younger to work for them."
02:04Tim went on to explain that he viewed this job as a last resort, in a time where he didn't
02:08have many options.
02:09He didn't go into much detail as to why he needed the job so badly, but did express how
02:13disheartened he was when he discovered he wasn't qualified.
02:17He summed everything up by saying,
02:19"...long story short, I didn't get hired at Taco Bell, and, um, you know, look at me now.
02:26And I still love to eat there, just to be clear."
02:27Things may have worked out in the long run for the streamer, but it's apparent that this
02:31rejection came at a time when he desperately needed the work.
02:35Side note, Tim really does seem to respect Taco Bell, even eating it on stream on occasion.
02:40"...Mmm, that crunch is lit.
02:43Man, Taco Bell doesn't miss, bro."
02:46"...DJ was like, what if he has nip anxiety?
02:48Which is so funny, because I did used to have really bad nip anxiety."
02:51Tim the Tat Man spoke on a stream about a Tattoo Artist React video in which he reports
02:56that they had described his chest tattoo as looking like a nipple monster which is pinching
03:00his nipples.
03:01The tattoo in question covers most of Tim's chest, and features the face of a roaring
03:06bear with the mane of a lion and the wings, legs, and claws of an eagle.
03:10Appropriately, Tim has referred to this creation as a bear-lion-eagle.
03:14While Tim clearly got a kick out of the artist's comments, the remarks about his chest also
03:18sparked a much deeper conversation.
03:21He explained that he had really bad nip anxiety in high school.
03:24"...I wore a tank top, and then I would wear a white t-shirt that was over that, and then
03:32I would wear my polo shirt."
03:33That might seem pretty extreme, but apparently there were times where his anxiety over his
03:37puffy chest drove him to even more desperate measures.
03:41"...And one day, it got so bad, and I was so sensitive about it that I put duct tape
03:44on him."
03:45He's come a long way, stating that he didn't care much about it at the age of 30.
03:49However, he also expressed concern that his son might go through similar anxieties about
03:53his body.
03:55One of Tim the Tat Man's viewers submitted a question in a stream asking how Tim kept
03:59his motivation to keep going with Twitch back in the days when he had almost no viewers.
04:04This seemed to strike a chord with Tim, and it led to him recounting the period of time
04:08where he almost quit streaming forever.
04:10"...And I was probably averaging at the time about 300 to 500 viewers, maybe 300 to 700
04:16on a good day, where it was going really well."
04:19Until it wasn't.
04:20Tim continued,
04:21"...Call of Duty Ghosts came out.
04:23I get on to do my big 24-hour stream after my work, and I had 20 viewers."
04:29He went on to explain that he had finally grown used to having hundreds of viewers at
04:33once, and the drop from what he had come to consider the norm shook his confidence.
04:37He also said that he now understands that a drop like that is normal with new release
04:41titles, since more people are online playing the game.
04:44"...When you have a new release of a game, everyone's playing it, right?
04:47And there's way more viewers on — I'm sorry, there's way more streamers on, so the viewers
04:51get distributed a lot more."
04:53Even so, the moment briefly wrecked the streamer's confidence, and almost led to the premature
04:58end of his career.
04:59There's a silver lining here, however.
05:01Experience seems to have changed the way Tim thinks about streaming.
05:04He explained,
05:05"...I'm not going to worry about the 680 viewers that I was averaging that aren't here.
05:12I'm going to try and focus on the 20 viewers that are here."
