00:00In our next episode of Super Typhoon Leon, we will watch live Glyza Escoliar, weather specialist from Pag-asa.
00:08Good afternoon to you.
00:11Good afternoon to you, Rafi.
00:13Yes, compared to the typhoon Christine, it seems that the typhoon Leon was stronger.
00:17What is the reason behind this and should we expect that the typhoon and the rain will be stronger like the typhoon Christine?
00:24You are correct, sir Rafi.
00:26The typhoon was stronger because of the hot sea in the east part of our country.
00:37We expect that it will be stronger up to 195 kmph before it reaches the botanical area.
00:44This is what is called rapid intensification.
00:46The hot sea is the reason for this.
00:49Will it be stronger?
00:51Yes, sir. We expect that the typhoon Leon will be stronger up to 195 kmph before it reaches the botanical area.
01:07Aside from the wind that we saw on the map, how much rain will it bring?
01:14The typhoon Leon is expected to bring torrential rain, especially here in Batanes and Cagayan Islands.
01:25If the typhoon Leon lands here in Batanes, what destructive power will it bring?
01:35We expect that the typhoon Leon will bring either a wind signal number 4 or number 5 before it reaches Batanes.
01:44If the storm surge is this strong, how high will it be?
01:51What will be the affected areas?
01:54The storm surge that we expect will be 2.1 to 3 meters high, especially here in Maya.
02:02Silangang Seaboard of Northern Luzon and Northern Seaboard of Northern Luzon.
02:07This includes Cagayan, not just Batanes?
02:11That's right. Cagayan, Isabela and Ilocos Norte areas are included.
02:16What are the affected areas of the typhoon Leon?
02:25The affected areas of the typhoon Leon are affected by the wind signals.
02:27We have data that shows that the typhoon Leon will bring torrential rain and storm surge.
02:36As reported by Mag. Gonzalez earlier, the typhoon Leon will bring torrential rain to Occidental, Mindoro and Western Visayas areas.
02:46Our wind signal number 3 will remain in Batanes, the eastern portion of Baboyan Islands,
02:52the northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan, and the wind signal number 2 will remain in the rest of Baboyan Islands,
02:59the rest of mainland Cagayan, northern and eastern portions of Isabela,
03:03here in Apayao, Calinga, the northern and eastern portion of Abra,
03:07as well as the eastern portion of Mountain Province and Ilocos Norte.
03:12The wind signal number 1 will remain in the northern part of Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya,
03:17the northern part of Mountain Province, Ifugao, Binguet, the northern part of Abra, Ilocos Sur, La Union,
03:23Pangasinan, Nueva Ecija, Aurora, the northeastern portion of Tarlac,
03:28and here in the northern portion of Bulacan, northern portion of Quezon,
03:32including the Colilio Islands, Camarines Norte, northern portion of Camarines Sur,
03:37and northern and eastern portions of Catanduanes.
03:40In Albay, the wind signal is now lifted.
03:43We can see that the eye of the storm is defined. What does this mean?
03:51It means that the storm is more compact.
03:54It means that it is more concentrated in the middle,
03:57which is why it brings rain and wind.
04:00Although there is still rain in Memoropa and Western Visayas that is expected,
04:05but it is likely that it will receive heavy rain for now,
04:08which is what the storm will go through.
04:11And because the typhoon intensity reached super typhoon intensity,
04:16the typhoon is expected to reach super typhoon intensity at 8 a.m.
04:21We can see that the typhoon is more compact.
04:27Again, we can see that the typhoon is expected to receive heavy rain and wind.
04:34And as you mentioned, even though the eye of the storm is far away, there is still rain.
04:38What is the outlook here in Metro Manila?
04:41Here in Metro Manila, fortunately for us,
04:44we are hoping that the weather will be calm until tomorrow.
04:49But when the day of the typhoon arrives, the weather will be better.
04:54What will be affected by the rain until tomorrow are localized thunderstorms,
04:59although there are also heavy rains.
05:03This is only short-lived or temporary.
