00:00Lewis has a small muscle issue, not that big. I think he's a great healer so we have to
00:08go day by day. For sure we can't take any risk with him but he's keen on coming back
00:16as soon as possible so we have to go day for day and then we'll see when he'll be back.
00:21It's a challenge. It's another opportunity, another chance for us to prove how far we
00:27are as a team. Liverpool for sure at the moment are one of the best teams in the world
00:33but again it's a game and we are able to beat every team in this league. We are convinced
00:40that we can do it and if you don't have the self-belief, if you don't have the self-confidence
00:44I think you shouldn't go in games like this.
00:48So we will try to be good in possession, we have to be very good out of possession, we
00:54have to be very compact, we have to be special in personal duels, ruthless and then I'm sure
01:02that this team or my team has the potential to beat everyone. Of course we have a lot
01:08of respect for Liverpool and we see a lot of games from them, it's incredible what they're
01:15doing but there are always chances in the Premier League to win games.
01:20I have two ex-players from him in my squad so they are all very well educated, not only
01:28on the pitch but also beside the pitch, great characters so I think it's also an impact
01:34from a coach if you educate persons and not only players. When you see the season from
01:41Liverpool so far I think they lost one game, they're very tough to beat, they have different
01:49styles of play, different positioning so they can open with three, they can open with four,
01:54they can play with two sixes, one sixes so very fluent and on top of that they have an
02:00amazing individual quality.
02:02No matter who will play tomorrow or on Saturday, if Diaz doesn't play then Gagbo will play,
02:11if Jota doesn't play then Nunez will play, if Salah doesn't play then Solskjaer maybe
02:19will play. They are different players, different qualities, great qualities and it will be
02:29not easy to defend them individually so we have to go there as a team and try to challenge
02:36them in every different phase of the game.
02:41A Brighton and Hove Albion sports writer and we're here outside of the Lansing training
02:46centre here where we've just come out of the press conference for the Liverpool Carabao
02:50Cup game at home on Wednesday. So Deron, what did you make of Fabian Herzler's comments?
02:58I thought there was obviously a bit of reaction because they just let a two goal lead slip
03:04against Wolves and I think he was wary of that and I think that would have been playing
03:10on the players' minds this week as they prepare for that Liverpool game.
03:14Obviously the main news that came out of it as well is that the skipper Lewis Dunk, he's
03:18out potentially for three to four weeks with this calf injury so he's definitely going
03:23to miss tonight's game. He could potentially miss the game to Anfield as well in the Premier
03:28League where they play Liverpool as well and then also the Manchester City game so that's
03:33a big blow for Brighton considering Adam Webster's already out, Jean-Paul Van Geck is a bit dodgy
03:39still with his groin issue that he's just working his way back from. So they're a little
03:44bit light on centre backs going into this game so I think that's going to be a concern
03:48for him.
03:49And you were at that Wolves game, what did you think of the Brighton performance? I know
03:54that it was a really disappointing result at the end but do you think that there were
03:57any glimmers of hope that could lead us into a really tough game here against Liverpool?
04:03Yeah for sure. For 85 minutes they were pretty good. Wolves were very competitive. In the
04:09second half in particular they asked Brighton quite a few questions and I think Brighton
04:14just sat back a little bit. They were a bit passive and as Herlitz alluded to in the press
04:18conference they just weren't quite at it enough in the second half. And especially after they
04:23got that second goal they went to sleep basically. So I think the problems there are easy to
04:30fix. It's just getting that, making sure that they're concentrated and making sure that
04:34intensity is there. And I'm sure that would be drummed into the players this week. And
04:38I think they've got a good chance to really go for this Liverpool team who may put out
04:43a weakened team in the Carabao Cup. So I think it's a good opportunity for Brighton to really
04:48go for it, make an impact on this Carabao Cup and perhaps if you get into the later
04:54stages, quarter-finals, semi-finals then you could perhaps look at a first piece of silverware
04:58for Brighton. And I think that's the mindset that they're going to have to take into this.
05:02Definitely. And one final one from me is, did Fabian seem like he was taking this seriously?
05:08Obviously Liverpool are going to be without a few players. They're playing this a back-to-back
05:13game. One in the Cup, one in the league on the weekend. Do you think that he's really
05:18looking to make his name and make this a really tough side for Liverpool to face?
05:22I do. I do. And particularly because they haven't got any European football this year
05:26as well. Whereas last year they were playing European football, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, Premier
05:30League and it just took its toll on the squad. I think now they've got a strong squad. Whichever
05:36team they put out is going to be very competitive and I think they can really go for it in this
05:40Carabao Cup. They haven't got to worry about the FA Cup until a little bit later on. I
05:45think the squad is in a good place, other than what we mentioned about the centre-backs.
05:48I think they've got so many options going forward as well. Jankuba Minte, he's an option,
05:53he's fit again. Simon Odinga, they've got Brian Gruder who can come in. Julio Enciso
05:58wants to make his mark on the team as well. Evan Ferguson scored against Wolves. So I
06:03think there's lots of reasons for Brighton to be optimistic going into this one and to
06:07really go for it in the Carabao Cup.
06:09Fantastic. Thanks Deron. And you can check out our match coverage for tomorrow's game
