Salford 2 Shrewsbury 1 - Ollie Westbury analysis
Transcript
00:00It is another dark day for Shrewsbury Town who hit perhaps a low point of their season so far.
00:07It's been tough in League One this season and they sit second bottom having lost 10 of their first 14 league fixtures
00:13but they now exit the FA Cup at the first round for the first time since 2013 after losing 2-1 at the Peninsula Stadium against Carl Robinson Salford.
00:24It was a game where the home side arguably were the better team and deserved to go through to the next round of the competition.
00:32Shrewsbury have competed at times this season in a lot of games but in the last two they have failed really to kind of
00:39not lay a glove on their opponents but they've lacked urgency and they certainly lacked urgency today.
00:43In the second half they were trailing 2-1 and you didn't really get a real sense if they were trying to get back into the game
00:49until right at the very end where substitute Tom Bloxham who was arguably Town's man of the match
00:54which is a bit of a sad indictment of what Town produced today given the fact that he came on with less than half an hour to go.
01:01They went behind early having started really, really poorly. It was a very disappointed start, misplaced passes.
01:07You can tell that they're out of form and they're lacking confidence and so they started poorly, conceded but then managed to react well.
01:16They got a goal back through John Marquise and the game kind of stagnated a little bit from there onwards before the home side took the lead again.
01:24Town had a brilliant opportunity through George Lloyd who just has to score to make it 2-2 just before half time.
01:30The second half then proceeded to be a little bit of a non-event from a Shrewsbury point of view.
01:34It looked more like Salford were going to make it 3 than Shrewsbury were going to get back into it.
01:38There was a final push but it wasn't enough as Town lost yet again.
01:44It's been a disappointing campaign. Almost 900 Shrewsbury fans made the journey to Greater Manchester today to watch that performance
01:52and they showed their feelings at full time as they were clearly very, very disappointed by what they've seen.
01:58Some potentially toxic scenes as the Shrewsbury players in credit to them did go over to try and thank the supporters for their support.
02:06It's dark times at this football club at the moment. Let's hope for some more positive news soon.
