00:00and we'll see you next week.
00:03Busy day yesterday, John. 356 Division One men's and women's
00:07college basketball games and it ended with a top ten tilt out
00:11in Spokane between sixth-ranked Gonzaga and number eight
00:15Baylor but with a 38-point win, John, for the Zags. In my
00:19notes, I was going to ask you, John, what was your main
00:22takeaway for this season opener for both Gonzaga and Baylor?
00:26We don't really need the main takeaway. Gonzaga was
00:29overwhelmingly impressive but what stood out to you most
00:32about the Zags in a 38-point dominating win over Baylor?
00:36We spend so much time celebrating new additions
00:40whether it's through the transfer portals especially in
00:43this climate or five-star freshman that retention is not
00:47celebrated enough or focused on enough in this current climate
00:51of college sports. Look at the two teams last season that
00:54played in the national championship game, UConn and
00:57Purdue. Seven of the ten players that started in that
01:01game were in those respective programs the season prior and
01:05if you look at Gonzaga's breakdown roster wise entering
01:09the season, the Bulldogs returned over 75% of their scoring
01:14from last season's team that won 27 games and lost to Purdue
01:18in the Sweet 16. That includes six of their top seven scores
01:22from that unit. Baylor, while obviously extremely talented,
01:26was leaning on two impact transfers in Nour Chad Amir and
01:30Jeremy Roach and also a five-star freshman in Vijay
01:33Edgecombe. Gonzaga had rhythm and chemistry. It showed.
