00:00So, how about Jennings, 306 in that game, two touchdowns, how good is he?
00:10He is as calm, cool, and collected of a quarterback that you'll ever see and we even knew that
00:15about him two years ago when he was a true freshman, he got thrown into a game when he
00:19was the third stringer because the starter was hurt and the backup got hurt in that game
00:24and he was awesome, helped beat Tulsa that day.
00:27First season he had to take over as a starter for the conference championship game of the
00:31bowl game because of injury to the starter and he was outstanding again.
00:35He just is a really calm kid back there in the pocket, local kid too from South Dallas
00:41who won a state title there at South Oak Cliff High School and man, he's been a pleasure
00:45to work with and a pleasure to watch.
00:47He just is so in command of the pocket and very in command of the team when he's on the
00:51field.
00:52I mean, they started, they got the lead early in this game on Johnson's TD run and then
00:59they just blew him out and I was surprised because I think Holstein's a good quarterback.
01:05I don't think he played like the last 10 minutes of the game, right?
01:08They took him out because it was such a blowout and that team was trying to go to 8-0 for
01:15the first time since Dan Marino.
01:16I mean, they have been a very big surprise.
01:19I think I'm really not that surprised that SMU's good.
01:25Like I said, you knew they were good last year.
01:27They're still good.
01:30And the reason they got there last year is because while they get so much credit for
01:34their offense, their defense was outstanding last year.
01:37They were top 25 in the nation in most major categories and they're doing it again this
01:41year defensively.
01:43And I thought Saturday against Pitt was about the best I had seen them play, particularly
01:47and just basic things like tackling and Pitt struggled.
01:50Pitt didn't tackle guys and they had a receiver horizontal coming down to the ground at one
01:55point and he winds up with a 40-yard catch and run after the play.
01:58SMU, though, wrapped guys up.
02:01They really put a ton of pressure too on Eli Holstein.
02:03That's why I don't think he had a very good night against him as well.
02:06Their defense really, as much as Rhett Lashley's an offensive guy and he gets credit for that
02:11and he should, I mean, they score 40 a game, defensively is where they really made the
02:15difference the last couple of years.
02:16Is that kid Davis okay?
02:19Like I saw him carried off the field.
02:22I was watching when he hit his head.
02:25Is that kid all right?
02:27So we did find out he actually made it back to the stadium before the game was over.
02:31He was on the sideline for the fourth quarter, did have a cervical collar on.
02:36Like it is a lot of times nowadays, like it probably should be too, there is a lot of
02:39precautionary stuff that's done when you see shots to the head, shots to the neck, things
02:43like that.
02:44I haven't gotten any update on him yet this week.
02:46They got by this week, so not a lot going on, but at least we know he was back from
02:50the hospital before the game ended.
02:52So take me back to the Duke game because that game was way wilder than the pick game that
02:58you won in overtime in Durham and you had a bunch of turnovers in that game, but you
03:02still won.
03:04Just six.
03:05Is that a lot?
03:06Yeah.
03:07Six turnovers.
03:08And Johnny still five picks.
03:11Three picks and he had two fumbles and he lost and he had two other fumbles, one that
03:17he recovered and one that the left guard recovered.
03:19I mean, that's a game that you look back at it and it's like six turnovers and they didn't
03:24take it away once.
03:25They got no business winning that game.
03:27But Duke scored zero points off of turnovers, including the last three possessions of regulation.
03:33They got the ball three times in SMU territory, missed a field goal, had to punt and then
03:39on the last play of regulation, a ridiculous play by Jafari Harvey to block a 30-yard field
03:44goal, which was their only hope.
03:46And then they went on and won it in overtime.
03:48Sometimes you're living right when you're having a magical season and that definitely
03:52was a night where they were living right.
