00:00The first-ever 12-team college football playoff field and bracket is now officially out.
00:11In DRS, we can debate who got into the field or the format, but in this current season's
00:17format that I do think is going to be changed moving forward, it is really interesting now,
00:23like we do in the NCAA tournament during March, to paint forward the path to winning a national
00:29championship or a Final Four or semi-final appearance, because that's one of the interesting
00:35things about this bracket.
00:37You could argue, and I think you would be sound in doing so, that the number one overall
00:41seed in Oregon, the only undefeated FBS program this year, a perfect 13-0, winning the Big
00:49Ten championship in the Ducks' very first year in the conference, has a much more difficult
00:54path as they await the winner of Ohio State and Tennessee in the quarterfinal round, then
01:01Penn State, who's the sixth seed, or even another team that earned the opening round
01:06by winning a conference title, the number two seed in Georgia.
01:12All of that now a part of the conversation that the bracket has been decided.
01:17Yes, and I'm excited to see how it plays out, but also, Ben, as I talked about many times,
01:23if you are going to say, all right, the top four seeds get a bye, which is great, because
01:27why are you on a bye?
01:28You can't lose the first-round game, but there is no more incentive after that bye, because
01:32you might ask some of these institutions, like, hey, Texas, would you rather have the
01:35bye or would you rather play at home against Clemson?
01:37The fan base overwhelmingly, put us in a playoff home game here, watch how much money we make
01:41on our stadium, then we'll move on to the next game at a neutral site.
01:45So when you go up and down the list, you didn't really benefit for Oregon being number one,
01:49who by far clearly the number one overall team in the country, deservedly so.
01:52They look great all season long, look great against Penn State, even with that Penn State
01:55comeback and their prizes, Tennessee and Ohio State, and you go like, oh, you know what's
01:59a great prize?
02:00We already beat Ohio State in our own building by one, but we are number one in the country
02:04and we won that game.
02:05So let's have the rematch in our own building again and see if Ohio State can win it.
02:08And you don't.
02:09You played at the Rose Bowl.
02:10Now, yes, Ohio State's on a forgiving conclusion, maybe going to beat Tennessee, but that's
02:15not a rite of passage.
02:16And then you take a look at teams simply like, you know, Boise State is what I keep bringing
02:19up here.
02:20Let's say Penn State does win that game against SMU and they play in the Fiesta Bowl.
02:24I understand it's out on the West Coast particularly there, but Penn State is going to outnumber
02:29Boise State fans 85 percent to 15 percent in that game.
02:32What sort of home field advantage is that when I keep bringing up like, even though
02:35I don't think Boise State technically should be in the playoff in that bye week here, but
02:39at least if they're in it here, give them an advantage and play it at Albertson Stadium
02:43up there on the blue turf in the cold weather and give them an opportunity to have home
02:46field advantage.
02:47That's my only gross here because it will get worked out in the future.
02:50With this year, why you're trying to set up, why you got that bye and how important it
02:55was.
02:56It wasn't really important to begin with, particularly if you're looking at playing
02:58unbelievable teams and like Georgia's, hey, got a bye, whoo.
03:01And it looks like they're going to play just based on the odds, Notre Dame, but not in
03:05their own building.
03:06It doesn't make sense.
