00:00Donald Trump has staged a stunning comeback after losing the 2020 election.
00:05But his Trump card could actually be the legislature, also known as Congress.
00:10Trump's party, the Republicans, have already won control of the Senate, which is the upper
00:15chamber of Congress.
00:16Meanwhile, they're in a tight race for the lower chamber, the House of Representatives.
00:21Victory in both races will make it easier for Trump to enact laws and appoint his cabinet.
00:26It could also allow him to choose the judges he wants in the Supreme Court.
00:31Judges in that court make crucial decisions, for example, the ruling that scrapped the
00:35constitutional right to abortion.
00:37Now this is not that unusual.
00:40Sixteen of the last 21 US presidents began their first term with their party running
00:45the Senate and House.
00:46But it's not always easy to keep control.
00:49The Republicans also called the shots in both chambers when Trump won in 2016, but they
00:54suffered defeat in the 2018 midterm elections, losing the House to the Democrats.
01:00Trump will hope that doesn't happen again, because if he wants to flex political muscle,
01:04he will need a firm grip on Congress.
