00:00Wellness coach Herman Teo is getting ready for Walk for Papa, a journey that will take
00:09him 425km on foot from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore.
00:15And if the distance wasn't enough, he'll be doing it while fasting, relying only on water
00:21for 9 days.
00:23Herman has been pushing his body to new limits to prepare for this feat.
00:28Every day he clocks 40km in a single walk, trains in the gym and runs dozens of miles.
00:36For the 50-year-old, Walk for Papa is all about inspiring cancer patients, especially
00:42his father, a stage 3 lymphoma survivor, to keep fighting.
00:48Herman came up with this event when he witnessed his father's deteriorating health and realised
00:53that time is precious.
00:56I was trying to motivate him, you know, to have that fighting spirit, therefore I came
01:02out with the walk.
01:04And I think that, you know, the walk is nothing new, many people have done it, but to do it
01:10without food, that's something, you know, almost humanly impossible.
01:16And I think I could do that to prove a few points that, you know, the body, a human body
01:21can do wonderful things.
01:23You know, we do have superhuman powers within ourselves and the body is able to sustain
01:30this kind of stress and I would like to do that in order to inspire cancer patients who
01:37are suffering from, you know, their illnesses to have the bright side of life by fighting on.
01:45Today, the duo spend time sharing meals together, enjoying a pot of tea or simply watching television.
01:52Still, Herman would be the first to admit their relationship has not always been the closest.
01:58We have very different thoughts, you know, and very different way of doing things.
02:04And you know, sometimes life is so funny that, you know, it takes certain things for you
02:13to realise stuff.
02:16It took an illness, you know, of my dad to make me understand how much I love him.
02:22His father, Teo Eng Swee, remembers how Herman casually told the family about Walk for Papa
02:28last December.
02:30So I was amazed, even the whole family was amazed, because this is not a normal project.
02:40It's very, very dangerous.
02:45But I know he won't change his mind because he was young, he was a boy, he was very, very
02:56persistent in doing what he thinks is right to do and very independent.
03:03So I cannot stop him, we also cannot stop him, we got to support him.
03:10Through the Walk, Herman aims to raise funds for the National Cancer Society of Malaysia
03:15and the Singapore Cancer Society.
03:17He will kick off his journey on November 16th with a flag-off event in KL, which includes
03:23a carnival and fun runs.
03:25Additional events will follow in Johor on November 23rd and Singapore on November 24th.
03:31With the aim of raising RM2 million, one way you can help him is by signing up for the
03:36fun runs in KL by November 10th through the registration link that accompanies this video.
03:42I'm inspired to do this Walk because of my dad's persistence in life.
03:51He has never given up, he will never give up.
03:54So likewise, it gives me inspiration to do this Walk that I will never give up no matter
04:02what and finish what I set out to do.
04:06So that is what I've always been brought up with and I will embrace that and I hope
04:16that it inspires other people for not giving up because fighting cancer is a daunting task.
